October 14, 201015 yr This is kind of off topic, but not entirely: I'd like to know what your (xfrodobagginsx) take is on the Seven Deadly Sins. If you succumb to any of them, do you go to hell? Even if you repent / ask for forgiveness? What about the people that succumbed to any of those sins between the time that the Bible was written and the time the Seven Deadly Sins were, how shall I say, made "official" several centuries later? I won't go into frodo mode here, but basically the 7 sins aren't in the Bible. In fact I think that is a major flaw of the church, Taking things like homosexuality and abortion and making them THE BIG HOT BUTTON ISSUES. Meanwhile this is being preached to a crowd of white people who are stingy with their money, obese and gluttonous, backstabbing people who gossip. I'm not saying this is everyone, but it just seems pretty hypocritical to me that the Church and Christians like to kind of make an ordered list saying its worse to do this, worse to do that, etc. Sin is sin.
October 14, 201015 yr I love how the SCIENTOLOGY TODAY ad is right under this highly amusing thread PLEEZ MAEK A DONASHON ALL MA ONE WERK PLEEZ MAEK DONASHON
October 14, 201015 yr You have to understand that the church isn't God. There are false churches AND there are false teachings within certain churches. So how do you know if it is a false teaching? By reading the bible for yourself and studying it. You are accountable to God for what you believe, live and teach others. Learn it. I don't believe in 7 deadly sins because it hasn't been shown to me to exist in the bible. The only sin that causes a person to go to hell is failiure to accept Jesus Chrsit into their heart as their Lord and Savior. I must admit that you did a very good job of answering my question. You seem to be one of the few people that have a thorough understanding of the Bible and go by its teachings, as opposed to the interpretations/teachings of "false" churches/teachings as you mention. I think the numerous interpretations and teachings are what get people so riled up about what is right and wrong, why there are so many differences, etc. But even with keeping with the simplicity of just going by the Bible and not anybody else's interpretation, I still have issue with the concept of "you're going to hell". There are people who, through no fault of their own, live without even knowing about it (I'll take an extreme example and say some tribe that lives in the jungle and has virtually no access to the "outside" world). It's not their fault that they haven't read the Bible and know nothing about Christianity. So they're doomed to go to hell anyway? That seems kind of crappy.
October 14, 201015 yr Religion is private for each  I am not Atheist because for me is be stupid and ignorant living in his selfish world my feeling to me . I am more agnostic = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agnosticism and for my part, is between me and God it's called my faith is private. if it exists. religions is the sects, groups of people who defend their ideas and therefore men speak for God. God it's them then? For my part, my faith private : I said where is the first commandment in a religion? is LOVE . can always meditate myself because many years ago all religions made war in the name of God ? it is a blasphemy but my family is catholic, from generation to generation we must take the name in every generation my mother called Crucified never wanted to give this name to his daughters . but me I'm not in Catholic faith because for me is all sects . in addition to the Bible was written by men inspired by God. but men are not perfect, years and years of interpretation and understanding of the Bible and you will find incoherent even for greatest theologicians .

And what about babies, do they go to hell? I think God is a just God and isn't going to condemn people to hell who have no access to Christianity. Same with babies or mentally handicapped people.
October 15, 201015 yr Looks really shoooooooooped. But isn't shoooooooooooooooped at all. http://www.atheistbus.org.uk/
October 15, 201015 yr And what about babies, do they go to hell? I think God is a just God and isn't going to condemn people to hell who have no access to Christianity. Same with babies or mentally handicapped people.Well, I asked a similar question in his other thread, and this was his response. http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/showpost.php?p=4234615&postcount=897 I realized that my original question didn't include the cases that I brought up in this thread, and his answer in the other thread didn't cover those situations, which is why I asked the other question here. I am looking forward to his response in this thread.
October 15, 201015 yr Also: Sad... I saw that a few days ago on facebook. To the topic I don't know... I wasn't around at the time. I think more than anything it's a book that is really just meant to be in some sense a moral compass for people by showing them some of the right things to do in life (help people out, be as good of a person as possible, don't kill/steal etc). So regardless if you believe in the religious aspect I think that the bible serves that purpose as well. All in all I guess I have a problem with a lot of the rules like don't eat red meat on friday, and standing up and sitting down at various times in church. I believe that if God (assuming it exists, which I believe in a higher being) was to come down to earth somehow, I'm sure that he/she/it would more than anything want people to treat others w/ respect and kindness rather than all those additional rules.
October 15, 201015 yr I had nothing against religion really until my boyfriend got kidnapped by mormons :blank:

The human rights for example were established before the bible existed by brilliant philosophers. If anything, our moral standards would be far more elaborated by now if the bible had never existed and fucked things up.
October 15, 201015 yr This. There's no such thing as big sin or small sin. There is no such thing as sin.

October 15, 201015 yr There is no such thing as sin. I agree, there is no such thing as right or wrong. We're all just produced and designed to operate in one way or another, every action we make is simply a result of our genetics and life experiences, so at the end of the day there is no such thing as right or wrong, or degrees of how right or wrong an action is.

October 18, 201015 yr There's a decent debate on Christianity here if people really want to. I'd like to say first of all that I respect Christianity and anyone elses religious beliefs for that matter. If you're an atheist - totally respect that. If you're a believer - totally respect that. Just don't you dare spout hatred crap whether defending or attacking religion. That is low. Religion and science can learn a lot from each other.
October 19, 201015 yr Down with the Bible! Save science! Amen sister :D Science was around before Jesus and his virus of a following. If Jesus existed. :dozey: P.S. I hope that if God does exist by the slimmest chance, that he's reading this and knowing that I know St. Peter won't call my name.:smug:
