OK, so how is The xx's album eligible for these awards, as old as it is? (Well, it's not old, but you know what I mean.)

i think the eligibility period is August 2009 to August 2010. it's like that with most music award nights. i think the grammys have a cut off around september or october. which means by the time the actual ceremony takes place the nominations are very very old. i dont see why it takes so long for them to make up their minds. like did they seriously spend 5 months thinking about this and came up with Katy Perry as one of the best artists in the world?
