Ever been burgled?

You better have checked that thing for malware...

Dang. Lucky you got your laptop back.

When I was in 4th grade, I got home from school. Before our car entered our gate, there was this man riding a motorcycle who went out of the gate (we live in an apartment unit & only had one gate, so I didn't mind, it could be a visitor from another unit), but our maid tried to ran after him and she looked distressed, that was when I learned the man entered our house, used a gun (which happened to be fake and is used only to scare victims, said by our neighboor back then), and took my mom's bag with all her important cards inside, and some cellphone.

I think we've been burgle before, when I was in third grade, at another apartment.

And when I was at a mall, this was just last year, someone took my phone, it was in my bag. I tried to gob ack to every botique I visited hoping I just misplaced it. But some fucker really took it from me.

have you got a visible alarm (now or before)? Most of the time they walk past houses with security and move to one without.

My family has had people try to break in. Once the doorbell rang at 4 am, and it turns out there was some creeper peering in the window from our back deck when he accidentally hit the doorbell. My dad ran outside and yelled at him and then called the cops, who drove around for hours and never found the guy. But the next morning we found a our baseball bat, garden fork, and garden hoe lined up outside the garage like the guy was going to use them to break in.

And another time, my parents woke up hearing voices coming from the back yard, so they called the police. Before the police got there, I looked out the window and saw two guys kicking in the door to a neighbour's garage. The police were everywhere that night...they even let dogs loose and the dogs went crazy when they got to our yard!

Jolly good times.

bumping this thread to say i was just burgled :(

came home to find all of my dads personal files all over the place, window broken, my guitar, family laptops, ipods, but nothing THAT big. everything is everywhere so it's impossible to work out what has been stolen. my dad's files are the things that matter really. :(

ughhh

That sucks. Sorry to hear that man. Same goes to the thread starter, must have missed this thread first time around.

:disappointed: Aww, I'm sorry. Hopefully they didn't take much more than what you've already discovered.

Aww, that sucks. I'm really sorry!

I hope the police can find the burgler and give you some of your stuff back.

They have never broke into my house, but a week ago they stole my father's car from outside our house. It just disappeared overnight (the alarm didn't go off, no broken glass, nothing).

According to the insurance company guy, by 11am it was already his 5th case of stolen vehicle that morning.

I'm really sorry to hear that! That has got to be very unsettling, without a doubt. Strange that someone would take personal files, laptops, and the like :( - it's a problem today with identity theft. You have my sympathies.

In this area, there are less break-ins of permanent residences, but more break-ins of cabins, seasonal homes, and the like. I have seen one simple, effective alarm systems that works - a silent alarm system that notified the police without tipping off the burglars - and in that case it gave the police enough advance notice to nab the culprits. I think it wasn't all that expensive either - so maybe it's worth the investment, and get a door opener that turns the alarm system off for family members when they come home - still no guarantees at night though, when everyone's sleeping. hmm, what to do..... motion detector cameras, at least might catch the culprits on film, and then the police would have evidence to use if anyone is brought in..

Really sorry to hear of this mate. Hope all is well with yourself and they catch whoever was committed the crime.

And Cobalt - no malware detected.

Edit: I didn't see the latest posts.

I'm so sorry, Eddie! I hope the police catch those people who did it.

And to howyouseetheworld too. It must be scary to be in the room and knowing that something is up outside the room!

sorry to hear of the burglary, not nice

I was the victim of card fraud a couple of weeks ago, violated in a different sense, although the end result of loss in financial terms is the same.

What the bank didn't give you back the money?
