HIP HOP

Featured Replies

what do you think about hip hop?

do you like it? do you hate it?

i love it. I've been listening to pretty much only hip hop for the past few weeks. hmmmm. There was a time when i thought it wasn't music/just people talking over a beat etc but it isn't. There's a real fucking art to production and rapping. I put Illmatic - Nas and Madvillainy - Madvillain up there with the best albums of all time. FOREAL

why do i make threads they never make sense :(

i don't like hip hop in general but i really like some artist like kanye, jay-z, lupe and mos def. even old school eminem was quite awesome.

Eddie, may I ask what other kind of hip hop artists have you been listening to besides Nas and Madvillain?

I agree with you on Nas; he's got skills.

As with most genres, there is something for me to take from it.

Personally my knowledge of the genre isn't great, I used to love it as a kid, but then I kind of got loads of genres blurred into one, dubstep, rap, hip hop, rnb, trip hop, drum n bass.

usually I listen to german hip hop (not that kind of gangsta hip hop though....) ther eis some cool stuff

^ You mean like Peter Fox? :cheesy:

I don't know enough about it to be honest, but I'm willing to listen to more. I really like Mos Def and Talib Kweli, and some older stuff like Dead Prez.

^ yup yup Dead Prez is really cool. He was here a few months ago but it was R18 :( :(

...i'm also kind of scared of hip hop shows too

I'm not the biggest fan of Nas' rapping but the production on that album (mostly done by DJ Premier, who my brother met :() is really really incredible.

Um I'm not familiar with a lot of rappers, i've only just started getting into hip hop. But I love anything doom related (Madvillain, King Geedorah, Mf Doom etc etc), Kanye...hmm i dunno

I've just been getting real into the production aspect of Hip Hop. People like J Dilla and Araabmuzik make incredible instrumental hip hop.

So where should one start if one was interested in J Dilla, Madvillian and MF Doom? I'd certainly like to listen to more.

I haven't really listened to it too much, but listening to an artist like Beck really helped me to appreciate and like it a lot more.

Does anyone else listen to Lupe Fiasco? Anyone?

You know, Eddie, I'm glad you made this thread. My knowledge in this genre is lacking, and I could use a push in that direction.

I do :awesome:

I don't personally like Hip Hop . Though Im okey with Hip hop pop collabos ... They have catchy lines and things so I kinda like it :)

for J Dilla listen to the album Donuts, which he made on his hospital bed before he passed away :(

As for Madvillain they only have one album. It's a collab between producer Madlib and rapper MF Doom. It's my favourite of Doom's projects.

anyone like eminem?

First two albums, then a few singles.

Don't like him when he takes himself too seriously, I prefer him rapping in a deeply offensive way for the lols, with a catchy backing track.
