June 10, 201115 yr Just read an article about the HJF, the journalist wrote that in Major Minus there's kind of a chorus inspired to 'Sympathy for the Devil' by the Rolling Stones. I honestly didn't know the song and gave a listen to it. I guess it's the uh-uuuuh that's similar...has anybody heard anything about this?
June 10, 201115 yr What's HJF? Nvm, you're talking about Heineken Jammin Festival yeah Seriously, never heard about Sympathy for the Devil? :shocked2: I don't see the resemblance, apart from the woohoow part, which isn't even that close.
June 10, 201115 yr Yeah, exactly, Heineken Jammin Festival. Ehm sorry, I'm aware my knowledge of music is lacking sometimes :embarrassed: Anyway, I agree with you, it's just slightly similar.
June 10, 201115 yr How do we know this song was "Up With The Birds"? That's what I'd like to know. Why did we all automatically assume that MM was actually UWtB? It doesn't mention anything like it in the lyrics . . . Maybe because UWtB was a title we already knew was a possibility for an LP5 song?
June 10, 201115 yr UWtB or not, I like all the new songs but MM really does it. Man o Man, The way Jonny plays the guitar. Maybe it isn't that supertechnical or whatever, the licks Jonny comes up with, they get to you and stay with you forever and they always add that special kind of Coldplayish sound I like so much.

Maybe because UWtB was a title we already knew was a possibility for an LP5 song? Yeah that title was leaked before. Someone must have been quite sure that this was the song, and the rest of us followed. I don't know. EDIT: ^I agree, somtimes I think he is the only one who's always at top level, but that would mean I'd just be bashing the rest of the band which isn't true. They can all rock for sure.

Yeah! There's really no way to describe how it sounds . . . but it's awesome! Jonny Buckland > Chuck Norris
June 10, 201115 yr Jonny Buckland > Chuck Norris Hey, I said that first! :p Hell no, you're absolutely right.
June 11, 201115 yr ^THIS This song is freaking amazing!, every time I hear I feel the urgency they try to transmit, and "run, Forrest, run!" - and I really feel like running and thinking that someone's got an eye on me - and an eye on the road :smug:
June 13, 201115 yr This song is absolutely amazing. The best use of acoustic guitar too besides UATW obviously. And Jonny absolutely rocks this song. In every possible way. AHHH. I love Jonny so much. The lyrics remind me a little of Billie Jean (well I've been listening to the Coldplay cover too much) but with all the "be careful's" in there. :D I love this song from the first time  It reminds me of "Low" for no exactly reason I got the exact same impression! I think one of the chord progressions is superficially similar to Low's intro/chorus.
June 13, 201115 yr What do you think? Is it possible that Major Minus could be a big hit alongside Yellow, Clocks and Fiy you ...?!
June 13, 201115 yr The lyrics remind me a little of Billie Jean (well I've been listening to the Coldplay cover too much) but with all the "be careful's" in there. :D THAT! I've been thinking about it all the time, but never much shared because of my laziness, lol. Especially when it comes to the pre-chorus and he sings "And be careful".

I absolutely love that part--it gives me the chills every time. Something about his voice sounds kinda menacing and then Guy gives it the quiet bass undertone . . . :wideeyed:

June 15, 201115 yr listened to it all day, this song is simply amazing. Again, some adjusting might be needed but then, o whoaaa, it's such a perfectly composed piece of art. The way it builds op. They manage to create such a special atmosphere in tone and tempo. IMHO this one is good for solid gold though I am afraid this wil become one of those underrated songs of Coldplay (like I ran away)

June 15, 201115 yr ^ You may be right, unfortunately. Hopefully it gets its share of the spotlight what with Charlie Brown, PoC, and Hurts Like Heaven circulating around
June 16, 201115 yr Does this mean that Major Minus is just an ordinary B-side? http://coldplay.com/newsdetail.php?id=741tt
June 16, 201115 yr IMHO this one is good for solid gold though I am afraid this wil become one of those underrated songs of Coldplay (like I ran away) SO I was right, they put it on a B-side...:(
June 16, 201115 yr Coldplay have never put a B-side on an LP since they first started. It's unlikely that it'll be on the album. It also means that the album is unlikely to be called Major Minus if it is indeed just a B-side.
June 16, 201115 yr I really hope this ends up on the album regardless (I have an inkling it will, judging from the insignia they are wearing on their jackets, and the fact they've played it at every show so far), I'm thinking they're putting it out there early knowing that the album won't be out for a good while. Maybe they're just using the physical release of ETIAW as a means to do it, but I guess we're just going to have to wait and see. I'd be very disappointed if they left it off though, already a bit miffed that they consider ETIAW good enough to release as an actual single.
