Major Minus Acoustic Cover

Featured Replies

i posted this over in the respective MM thread, but it fits in here, too:

i'd like to share a recording with you...

an acoustic version (based on "my" lyrics though), not even sure if i got all chords right but it sounded good to me.

i hurriedly did it in twice the time the record plays (2 trys :D ).

i would want to hear constructive criticism, it's ok though if you just tell me your point of view...

i believe that i cannot sing, my voice is awful, but there are people that say i can... so hear for yourselves...

the link:

I think it's pretty good actually - Both the guitar and the singing! I don't know if the lyrics are correct, but it sounds pretty close to the original live version.

I know it's not the kind of constructive criticism you were looking for, so sorry for that :p

Um, I feel like I'm taking advantage here but could you post which chords you used? I really like this song, and I'd like to play it, but I haven't been playing guitar long enough to be able to learn by ear. Thanks for any help!

oh thank you =D you know, when you think it is good, how would you tell what's bad about it? :D maybe what one could improve xD

ok chords, well, easy, i just put a capo on 7th fret, chords are Am7 (open!) and you release the fingers to open strings from time to time :D can't explain there, it's a thing you gotta hear. same with Em (open) which is Em7 at times (randomly^^). then we have a change between F (i'd play it with my thumb on low e and an open high e, but that is not necessary) and Dm (open).

4 chords only, you'll get the hang of it ;)

//whoops, you said you haven't been playing for so long... but you know the normal open Am, Em and Dm chords, right? and an F may be played as a barré here, too....

but it would help knowing for how long you played so i can give you enough information and not just this raw sketch of it

anyone else? nobody? pleeease? xD

i mean just tell me what you think, even when your answer is just one word ("shit!!" , "awful", "lame"...) ... (or 3 words: "awesome!!! //irony off" :D )

I like the way you play guitar, although I think you realise that chords are not so precise. When you go with Am you should add the note lower. And I'm not 100% sure if pre-chorus is correct, but still it's ok and doesn't really matter. Your playing is at a proper level and you did a great job learning it so fast.

About the singing. You're timbre is good I think. The way you sing is also good but there are some things I'd change:

- Try to use your diaphragm more

- Try to make a more deeper sounds

- Try to stay on the notes and not just cut them like you did to "you're talking to"

- Singing songs your own way is quite risky, try to hit correct notes more often

- I like "walking into view , waaaah" I do thosek ind of thins often xD

- Oh, and one thing play loudly between the verses and a little more quiet during the verses, not the oposite

- "Ticking round the world, oh" didn't sound good.

- You did the falsetto kind of part in the chorus correctly, good job.

- Didn't like the bridge part. Maybe you thought that you wouldn't manage but I think you would be able to do it.

- Quiet part at the end was interesting. It would be great if you'd sung it better.

- "You" with the echo at the exact end... NO.

Don't take it personally. I really think it was good but it will be better if you can improve those things I mentioned.

thank you. i do know how to play the guitar, certainly, thanks for noticing that :D and as you said, i know the chords are not perfect, but that would do for then i thought.[/color]

About the singing. You're timbre is good I think. i'll try this word on google >.<The way you sing is also good but there are some things I'd change:

- Try to use your diaphragm more i'll look up what that is :D

- Try to make a more deeper sounds

- Try to stay on the notes and not just cut them like you did to "you're talking to" mhm, good point

- Singing songs your own way is quite risky, try to hit correct notes more often

- I like "walking into view , waaaah" I do thosek ind of thins often xD

- Oh, and one thing play loudly between the verses and a little more quiet during the verses, not the oposite yeah you see recording is a bit tough since i have only one mic that works properly with the pc; maybe i'll do it multitrack next time, so one thing after the other

- "Ticking round the world, oh" didn't sound good.

- You did the falsetto kind of part in the chorus correctly, good job.i did?! xD

- Didn't like the bridge part. Maybe you thought that you wouldn't manage but I think you would be able to do it. yeah i believe i'm unable to do that... and i didn't listen to the original song before that, i wouldn't remember what notes he sang :D

- Quiet part at the end was interesting. It would be great if you'd sung it better.yeah i forgot how i wanted to end it and messed up with a chorus so a improvised that one

- "You" with the echo at the exact end... NO.i was sooo worried about that!! i did a farily good recording (to me xD) without messing the text and then i'd do that awful thing! i completely understand that it's shit and i promise to never do that again! ;D

Don't take it personally. I really think it was good but it will be better if you can improve those things I mentioned.

i have to take it personally, don't i? i mean a must change it :D i know this is a very good review and percise constructive criticism - that is what i wanted and i appreciate this very much, thank you!

Thank you A LOT !! this helps extremely... just see my notes above ^^

I really like your acoustic version of this Major Minus and I really want to thank you for sharing the chords of this song with us. I was looking for these chords for around a week, because I couldn't figure them out by myself.

oh thanks... and sorry that it's very basic with the chords....

the actual sounding chords are:

Em & Bm in the beginning and the bridges & so on (you'll figure what i mean =D ) are C & Am

i have an approach of the chords without capo:

e|---0--------0------0-----0

B|---0--------0------0-----0

G|-0/12----0/7-----9----0/5

D|--14-------9-----10-----7

A|--14-------9-----10-----7

E|--12-------7-------8-----5

----Em------Bm-----C-----Am

the / means you may either play e.g. 0 or 7 for Bm ( 0/7)

i'd play the Em in the verses with 12-14-14-0-0-0 and for the chorus 0-14-14-12-0-0 ... well I do that, but it's all up to you

it's just a try though^^
