MY CITY IS RIOTING

Featured Replies

I didn't hear of any stabbings, I may be wrong though.

But yeah, conveniently a bunch of people there had masks and stuff on them already. The thing is with cameras on every cell phone now, the people who did all this shit have been filmed. I hope they are either fined or humiliated by their family and friends for such disgusting behaviour.

"Spokesman Justin Karasick said the hospital had tended to four stabbings, eight head wounds, and four or five lacerations by late evening.

As well, another 30 to 40 people were treated at Vancouver General Hospital. Three were admitted and one is in critical condition, spokeswoman Alyssa Polinsky said Thursday."

You rednecks are the cause of all evil.

1. I'm not a redneck.

2. My brother is a redneck, but he's not stupid enough to do stupid stuff like this.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing, because Boston / New England / East Coast is totally redneck country. :|

* noes its nots *

edit: Sorry, I realized my analysis of the original comment doesn't make sense because Boston wasn't even mentioned at that point.

To revise my point, uh, Vancouver isn't redneck country either. So either way I don't get it.

Exactly, and even if that were true, it's not right to stereotype people like that.

I take it back, Vancouver is full of fucking assholes. I'm glad they didn't win their hockey game.

WTF. D: I hope that guy ended up being OK.

I find it amusing how the people who are destroying the property conveniently covered their faces. "Oh hi, I'm gonna be a badass and smash some glass but I want to make sure that I don't go to jail or anything."

HAHAHA, I know, right? Cowards. :dozey:

Yup!

There are also always people who will end up making the wrong connections and say that it's the sport's fault.

Of course that's a minor problem compared to all the injuries and material damage.

I wasn't saying you were a redneck, I was just being a bit sarcastic. :P

I'm actually pretty confused and find this remark a bit racist, because it's completely out of place and inappropriate.

I had to google redneck, but yeah that's racist.

And about the riots, it happens everywhere D: People do that after football matches here, there are always criminals involved of course, they'll use any reason to create chaos

Haha, yeah, I know. :nice:

Indeed. :|

I think I know what rednecks actually mean. :|

Thanks History 251 :|

Yeah, it sounds a bit racist. :|

You get groups of criminals who are planning to create chaos regardless of the outcome of the game. There is no other way to explain how an organized riot breaks out so fast.

This is definitely what looks to have happened at least partially.

Mark being racist and/or inappropriate? What is new?

That being said, I don't find the term redneck offensive in any way haha

Yeah this obviously wasnt the real fans.

Embarrassing.

Downtown core is in shambles.

Downtown core is in shambles.

Oh my, were you able to see it in person?

just seen this on the news, crazy shit :blank:

It's not necessarily the term, so much as the way Mark used it to say that rednecks are always destructive and riotous people. Which they aren't. :|

What happened does not represent the fans of the Vancouver Canucks or the people of Vancouver.

I don't think anyone's suggesting it does. It's clearly the result of organised hooliganism, just as when violence breaks out around football.

Yes. Surely this should be over in News & Sport.

Jesus, this is worse than the football riots we have around Europe and the UK

Far worse. The last actual "riots" I can recall occurred in Italy a few years ago, but I don't think even they were on this scale.:stunned:

Go to any Millwall match and you're in for a treat :laugh3:

Is that meant to be some kind of euphemism?

Anyway, I don't even think there have been any riots there of late.

The New Den definitely isn't top of my list of places to visit, anyway - or Selhurst Park, for that matter!;)

I've only ever witnessed an infamous Millwall riot once - when they came to the KC back in late 2008. A couple of dozen seats ripped out, a lot of shit thrown onto the pitch and a lot of commotion. Madness.

It'd be interesting to see a big riot in person though I guess, it'd put a different perspective on things

That doesn't surprise me. They do have a bad reputation for it. They've even ripped out seats at their own ground in the past.:dozey:

However, was what you experienced genuinely a riot, or just hooliganism?

Edit: The Guardian described it as a "riot".

You should be careful what you wish for. I'd rather not be anywhere near a big riot, thanks very much!:stunned:

It was somehow exhilarating to have to wade through the riot, in a weird way o.O

And yeah that's the one, it was talk of the town for a few weeks afterwards

You actually ended up in the middle of it?:shocked2:

I bet it was! Did you encounter any skinheads?

I imagine this is what happens after a game of football in Europe as well.

You'd be surprised but football hooliganism is completely dramatised, it used to be that bad back in the 80s-90s but not any more, in fact you hear almost nothing about it anymore.
