MY CITY IS RIOTING

Featured Replies

You'd be surprised but football hooliganism is completely dramatised, it used to be that bad back in the 80s-90s but not any more, in fact you hear almost nothing about it anymore.

True. It's very rare in Britain now (fortunately).;)

Nowadays some of the players tend to be bigger hooligans!:P

You actually ended up in the middle of it?:shocked2:

I bet it was! Did you encounter any skinheads?

I had to pretty much go through the middle of it on the main road next to the stadium after the match had finished. And nah, no skinheads, just groups of people throwing stuff like glass bottles, screaming, shouting, kicking stuff, running, the usual business. I wasn't wearing a City shirt so nothing was said to me thankfully.

Good job. I would never display team colours outside the stadium.

I guess the skinheads were off causing mayhem elsewhere, then.

exactly, our supposed 'idols' or 'heroes' are worse than the fans most of the time. Any form of hooliganism, violence or misconduct is a disgrace and should not tolerated.

It's a shame that a few 'fans' had to ruin the opportunity for hockey fans to remember this season as the best in Canucks history. Scum like them didn't deserve to be in Vancouver last night. There's people all over the world that would've given anything to be there last night (me being one of them).

what is with you and rednecks and skinheads? :|

Well said. That includes people who make threats, irrespective of whether they intend to carry them out.;)

Couldn't agree more.:smug:

Your smiley use baffles me.

You're proud that you agree?

Yes. Surely this should be over in News & Sport.

You're confused because this should be in News & Sport?

Anyway, I don't even think there have been any riots there of late.

You're confused?

better than rioting after WINNING! like the lakers fans did a couple of years back lol.

Uh, I hate my city right now. Other countries riot over important things, and we riot over hockey?? And the thing is, it was only a few drunken young guys who started it, and those idiots managed to ruin Vancouver's rep. I was watching the news, and it's believed to be the same "anarchists" that protested during the Olympics, and that they came prepared win or lose.

Some idiots will use any excuse to riot.:dozey:

I saw this on the news when I woke up this morning. It's just ridiculous, hockey is no reason to start a riot over. And it's terrible how people who were in the middle of everything used it as an excuse to break into and steal from businesses. These people should be ashamed of themselves.

misdirected excitement, I understand and sympathize. It's a thing though, when people are on a power trip, it can be channeled in positive or negative directions. The anarchists I have spoken with are of the belief that organized anything needs to be broken up, especially modern society. They cite inevitable concentration of power, war, totalitarianism, etc. But what's their solution? Total madness? Chaos? I dunno - either isn't much of an answer..

Seems there's a common thread:

"In recent decades, the term expanded its meaning to mean bigoted, loutish, and opposed to modern ways."

Certainly explains a lot. Irrespective of who's responsible for the rioting in any given situation, these imbeciles are all after pretty much the same thing at the end of the day.;)

It's also all part and parcel of this "mob rule" and "spontaneous overreaction" mentality which is now pervading all aspects of society, including the internet. You don't need to look very far to find it, sadly.

It's there all the time, bubbling under the surface like a volcanic magma pool waiting to spew forth.:(

The trouble is, whenever this is alluded to, it prompts just such an "eruption" itself, because the malaise is pretty much self-perpetuating.:dozey:

Maybe Mad Max wasn't so wide of the mark after all............................ :stunned:

nope.

Care to explain?

The explanation I got was something like, " it should all be just individuals trading and bartering, without governments or other unwieldy organized entities."

Great, except that's probably not going to happen. And how does starting a riot after a hockey game win people over to your cause (other than the rioters?)..

Imbeciles don't care, owing to their very nature. They're like real-life zombies, simply hell-bent on violence and destruction.;)

understood.

GO AND GET YOUR RIOT GEAR, SWING YOUR GIRLIE ALL AROUND; WE'LL BE DANCING ON THE CINDERS AS THE TOWN IS BURNING DOWN~

They're afraid my city is going to riot over hockey sometime.

There's even a pledge now haha.

“I ... as a super-awesome Manitoban, vow that when Winnipeg makes the Stanley Cup final (and we will), that win or lose, I will not riot.”

Haha is there seriously a pledge? I was actually thinking about that earlier though...Winnipeg got pretty rowdy when it was announced that they'd get a team...I can only imagine all these crazy Jets fans going beserk when they lose!!

(PS I can now consider myself a fellow member of your city because I got accepted to UofM!!!!:awesome:)

^ This is off-topic, but congratulations to getting in! :awesome:
