Math

How many subjects/courses do you need to take a year in high school?

8 classes, one of which can be a study hall.

To graduate you need:

3 years of a science

4 years of math

1 year of foreign language (stupidest requirement ever, 1 year is nothing)

4 years of English

4 years of history

and then a 5 credits (so 2 semesters) of computer, business, performing arts, and practical arts classes. but most of those electives count for a few (like I'm taking web page design and it counts as a computer, business, and practical arts elective)

And 40 hours of community service.

That sounds like a very good education system.

Are those AP scores from this year? You already got yours?

 its okay no one likes math anyway :P

HAHA, goodness no. This was several years ago. I start my 4th year of college in August.

Wow, so much calc! :wreck:

We don't even have trig, it's just a chapter in geometry. . .

Which I'm fine with. Hated that chapter. :P

Edit: i was a math nerd, haha I'm taking honors and whatnot, but I hate how they separate Algebra 1 and 2 here. . . .I seriously forgot everything from algebra 1 :uhoh:

For us, trig is what a lot of pre-cal was.

Yeah, I never understood why they did that. After taking Algebra I in 8th grade, then leaving it for a whole year to take Geometry for a year doesn't really prepare you that well for Algebra II. Thank goodness I had the coolest Algebra II teacher ever. :awesome:

I did everything in 1 year. :|

Yes; Calc I, Calc II, Algebra & Trigonometry, Statistical Methods, all in 1 year :freak:

:freak:

Rudy, you are a much braver soul than I could ever be. Never would I subject myself to so many numbers at one time. NEVER.

No, I had to take all those courses in rush so that I can pair them up with equivalent courses in America because Malaysian high school system is very much different to that in the US. :anxious:

That makes sense. I'm still sorry you had to take them all simultaneously, and I still wouldn't be able to take more than one math course at a time.

I haven't been required to do maths for 2 years :wacky:

Apart from where we had to briefly in Biology

But luckily that was short lived :anxious:

I wish our school system was more like in America, we get no study hall and are forced to do so many subjects which half the time you don't want to do. I also know how it feels to rush subjects because after years of terrible teaching we found ourselves having to cram in so much in the last few months but all that math you did I wouldn't cope with that :wreck:

Fuck you all, numbers are beautiful.

numbers are my fwiend :charming:

We had to do 9 subjects for A Level and we didn't get to pick them either.

I don't mind maths but I hate geometry.

Stupid controlling people :phu:

How does everyone do math? Like, what courses when in 9th-12th grade?

For us, it's

(9th Algebra 1 if you fail the entry exam, basically you'd just be repeating 8th grade's math and you get set behind everyone a year. . . follows the same track though)

9th- Geometry

10th- Algebra 2

11th- Pre Calc

12th- Calc or Stats

For me it was

9th - Geometry

10th - Algebra 2

11th - Trigonmetry

12th - Calculus

Tell me about it! It sucks, especially if you want to go university in a different country where people get to pick their A Levels.

Holy crap, what? :wreck:

Holy crap, what? :wreck:

I went to school in Switzerland, everyone has to take that many A Levels there. It's probably also the reason why so few people Swiss people go to university. It's ok if you want to go to university there because you can go to any university as long as you get a pass overall. However, most British university will only consider you if you get a certain average.

in our system here we have 4 years of highschool.

and we don't have AP classes...A Levels or watever you call it; the math subjects in here tho vary from one school to another, like some schools take calc and some don't.

In MY highschool we took:

1st yr - Advanced Algeb.

2nd yr - Geometry (fucking hated it)

3rd yr - Trigo

4th yr - Stat

trigo was harder but better IMO, god geometry was shit *rolleyes*

Algebra > Geometry > Statistics >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Calculus

I was pretty good at maths but I never cared too much for it.

My weakness was Portuguese (it's my native language) and French (I was learning French just like in the french system). But now I'm in another school and I have Portuguese private lessons.

Algebra > Geometry > Statistics >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Calculus

Obviously you've never had Proofs. After that you would love Calculus.

Obviously you've never had Proofs. After that you would love Calculus.

Proofs? If what you mean by proofs is questions like "Prove that this equation is equal to this equation", no, I don't love it at all.

Worst. Things. Ever. :bigcry:

7th-H. Algebra 1 (loved it)

8th-H. Geometry (hated it)

9th-Algebra 2 (liked it)

10th-Math Analysis/Trigonometry (pre-cal) (loved it)

11th-AP Calculus AB (love/hate-depending on what we were doing)

12th-I'll be taking AP Calculus BC :uhoh: (We'll see how that goes.)

My favorite type of math is Algebra. :P

I hate math because not understood the calculations in school. bad in school :(

but I was the first in class for all others subjects to be studied. a chance .
