Sky tells boxing fans to watch David Haye fight 'down the pub'

 

Sky was ridiculed by boxing fans after advising them to go to the pub to watch Saturday's pay-per-view fight between David Haye and Wladimir Klitschko.

 

There was huge demand to see the world heavyweight title contest and technical problems with the online and telephone booking services meant many would-be viewers were unable to buy it in the hours immediately before the first bell. Some angry fans who had booked the Sky Box Office event in advance also rang radio phone-ins to complain they had not been able to see it.

 

The official Sky HD Twitter feed contained a series of messages apologising for the issues and saying it was working to resolve them. But the apologies were eventually followed by a rather surprising piece of advice. 'Hi everyone, as we are still experiencing technical difficulties with bookings, please find your nearest pub pubfinder.sky.com,' the company tweeted. :whatever:

 

Twitter users were quick to laugh at the 'customer service fail', but the jokes were accompanied by angry messages from some would-be viewers who missed out on seeing the action from Hamburg.

 

KevinAshford7 tweeted: '@skyhd I can't take me 15month old son to the pub can I? 137times I tried to ring you today.' Niallstott16 added: 'That's it @skyhd, been considering unsubscribing for a while. Now you've ruined my evening, I'll be leaving you tomorrow.'

 

WBA super-lightweight champion Amir Khan, who recently fell out with Sky executives, pointed out: 'Wow the amount of complaints SKY had is crazy, viewers paid n didn't get the fight, and sky customer services told viewers go to the nearest pub, what about those who don't drink, muslims and under age kids.'

 

Haye fans who missed out on the fight may eventually reflect that they had a lucky escape, as their man suffered a heavy points defeat in a one-sided contest.

What it should have read was "find your nearest pub whom has a Sky TV system & paid for the match" ;)

 

And considering they were charging something stupid like £150+ for a "club" license to watch the action, I doubt many pubs would have forked out for that, most of the pubs in this area has ditched the Sky and gone to Freeview/Freesat as a cost saving measure.

Sky's customer services are useless. They told me something similar when I complained that Sky Sports wasn't working. I was quite angry when I phoned them because I had already missed one Liverpool match and Liverpool were playing Man United in a few days. They said they couldn't tell me whether it would be working by then but that I'd have plenty of time to make other arrangements. :angry:

 

They also didn't deliver our second Sky+ box for weeks although we had already paid for it and then tried to sell us a HD box instead.
