Radiohead

About schizophrenia? Hm, I always imagined that the narrator was a stalker who was stalking one of his "friends" and had some slight phaedophilic tendencies. :uhoh: But schizophrenia seems a possibility. It's not an easy subject to write about.

I see like Thom was the other, somehow evil, sick persona of the person singing to the other persona.

And either way you turn, Ill be there, open up your skull

Ill be there, climbing up the walls

  • Lol I haven't been here in 5 years but I decided to pop my head back in for some nostalgia. Seems like this was my last post so here's an update... I finally saw Radiohead live in Manchester in 2017 a

^ yes, actually it does seem like that, but then the lines So lock the kids up safe tonight doesn't make much sense. Because I think that if the evil side of the same person was speaking And either way you turn

I'll be there to the other persona, then suggesting to lock up his house, those the good persona loved ... would be pretty useless. Unless that was the echo of the good side of that person.

it is and, I just took that form some page, didn'ät check it carefully enough. But Maybe to lock the kids safe tonight because the evil persona could do something to them

just read this from wikipedia:

Thom Yorke has commented on the song, saying "This is about the unspeakable. Literally skull-crushing. I used to work in a mental hospital around the time that Care in the Community started, and we all just knew what was going to happen. And it's one of the scariest things to happen in this country, because a lot of them weren't just harmless... It was hailing violently when we recorded this. It seemed to add to the mood. Some people can't sleep with the curtains open in case they see the eyes they imagine in their heads every night burning through the glass. Lots of people have panic buttons fitted in their bedrooms so they can reach over and set the alarm off without disturbing the intruder. This song is about the cupboard monster"

yeah so basically the cupboard monster is the violent "dark side" of the person?

^ My opinion is that Thom sang from the monster's point of view with lines such as 'you know we're friends till we die' and 'I got the smell of the local man, who got the loneliest feeling' and 'either way you turn, I'll be there, open up your skull'.

See, cupboard monsters will scare someone everytime, even until they die.

And they're quite lonely as they're scary. And opening up skulls must be their hobby.

probably. or it is only a metaphor for this person's fear. a paranoic one, that is ...
CUTW is about schizophrenia isn't it. I know that Thom was inspired by the mental hospital where he worked in...

"you and I are friends till we die"

That's right. I only read it, but yes.

:laugh3: I didn't think what it was about. :laugh3: I just really liked the song. So... Dunno...

Yes, I thought so as well... I concluded that from what you said above.

That makes a lot of sense. :)

well those about children came to my mind a bit later than the stalker part.

I often skip this song; it's a bit too scary for me. :uhoh:

btw, what's this cheescake about? I've been wondering for a couple of days about that...

I'm putting all my hope in it, haha :stunned:

We'll see.

I think the songs will have gone through many different shapes and sizes.

When I saw them live, they sounded ok, with Arpeggi standing out a mile - it really built up beautifully and felt very powerful.

Hm, I swore that I would buy it instead of downloading the leaked version. But hm, Arpeggi and Videotape are the best IMO, the others didn't really stand out. But who knows; they might not even put others on the lp and surprise us with something greater.
