One of our emailers with ties to the mastering house said the band's asked that all audio files (save the masters) be deleted, concerned for a repeat of the Hail To The Thief demo leak. The only other bit of unsubstantiated info we can add to this highly speculative post: Industry folks at Pitchfork this weekend said "the new Radiohead is going to blow minds." Umm, obviously. You needed an anonymous insider to tell you that like you need a cat tied to a stick that's driven into frozen winter shit, we know. But admit it ... you're getting even more excited.

i dunno. i've been lurking on atease a lot lately, and there are a few folks who post there who know a lot about the recording/mixing/mastering process. here are a couple of quotes from Wonsaponatime (mr know-all of atease):

"Mastering usually only takes one day. At least every previous Radiohead album and probably 99% of all records are mastered in a single session.

Mixing HTTT took 2 months, btw. The reason probably is that during mixing they keep on fixing things, adding the occasional overdub etc."

"Kid A was mastered in a single session at Abbey Road in London. Likewise all other albums by various bands where I know something about the mastering process were done in one day. Why? Because mastering is all about getting an overall sound to recordings that stem from different sessions, in this case also very different locations. And in order to achieve that you do it all in one go."

 

here's another quote from a guy talking about getting his band's cd mastered: "mastering is done relatively quickly (compared to mixing an album). When we had our 2nd EP mastered, the guy had it done in a day"

 

Yes, it can be done in a single day but it's all about how good the person is at mastering you album. A master of a mix is only as good as the ears of the engineer and I guess if it turns out bad then they might need to do it again.

well, 2 days then? ok, a week tops. it's not gonna take months like somebody suggested, that's for certain. :D

1 - Every album leaks, even if it's just a couple days before release (For example, for a CD released on a Monday, online shops ship the CD early to get there for the Monday, but sometimes they come on the Saturday), baring a world-wide download release.

 

2 - Why do I get a feeling that the new album will be disappointing?

I really think this album is going to be great, from what I've heard too.
