Oh thank goodness, I thought I was the only person out there who didn't like that song. Nice to know I'm not alone!

I feel like I'm the only person that can't stand Reign of Love. :| For some reason I find it gag-worthy.

You ain't the only one either. It's the worst song on a Coldplay album in my opinion. It's unbelievably boring. All the b sides that were released with the singles from X&Y were far better songs than Twisted Logic I thought especially Things I Don't Understand. I really want to know who it was who thought it was good enough for an album let alone an album closer! Quality wise it's the poorest Coldplay album, it's imperfect. I think the good moments are fantastic but the poor moments are just so unforgettable and bland like Twisted Logic and X&Y. Strangely though it's my favourite album but that has more to do with nostalgia and the fact it helped get me through severe pneumonia!

That said - I think Reign of Love is lovely though!

I rank that song as cringe-worthy. :awesome:

Seriously though, even when comparing it to Low, which in my opinion is another bad one on the album, it's embarrassing. :|

Another thing that I noticed is that a few songs on X&Y actually sound very similar- they have almost the same "structure".

Bands are constantly evolving they need to change to keep interest. ill use an example...

The hangover was a great comedy, but the hangover 2 was the same thing as the first one and it was given terrible reviews for it.

Now if coldplay stayed the same and kept doing parachutes and they did another album thats just parachutes 2 with the same style the same sound and everything sure it would be good but it wouldnt be the same as the first one the original so they keep evolving and exploring there boundarys and trying new things if this makes sense at all.

Trust me you may not like the style of coldplay right now or the direction but when they are done with all this experimenting and they get older they will slow down and do the old stuff and not jump around on stage so try to enjoy the moment because it wont be around forever.

Also about the whole mainstream thing i think its great what theyre doing since music today sucks i think its nice to see that they are mainstream and it shows that not all popular music is just rap and techno stuff, and i think if people like coldplay itll introduce them to other bands like arctic monkeys oasis and beady eye. And it will help save this generation.

there are a few things I agree with, like the cheesyness, (I have hated Fix You from the first time I heard it, shit shit shit!!) stadium rock, but it doesn't really bother me all that much, the music doesn't hit the spot these days unlike 'parachutes' and 'AROBTTH' does, I miss those days. I really don't like the 'uniform' they seem to wear these days and painting their instruments, my sister said its like they are a boyband these days, a grown up Mcfly, not a proper alternative band, as she put it, I can see her point.

I love Parachutes and AROBTTH a lot but I'm happy they did make X&Y and Viva becaus these involved to the band.

It's good that they evolve because like said before otherwis everybody would say that Coldplay get bored. The interaction with the crowd is nice and it shows that they kind of care about their fans.

I'd prefer viva over x&y. A message was way too cheesy. Bring on more arena rock!

For the record, I like Twisted Logic :P

Honestly, I think Coldplay will take a page from U2's book and revert back to a more 'stripped back' version of themselves eventually. Right now, they're obviously experimenting with their sound--trying out new instruments and synths and soundscapes. X&Y was definitely the beginning of this, and Viva followed up with it; I think LP5 will incorporate it also, and then LP6 will start to strip away some of the heavier synth elements.

Just my two cents :D

In my opinion, Reign Of Love is beautiful and not gag/cringe worthy at all.

But, my all time favourites are still from the first two albums, apart from Fix You.

Sorry for reviving this, I've been away for two weeks. :p I had to read the answers here.

I agree with snippets, but a lot of you are missing my point. Of course it's fantastic that they change their sound and expand their soundscape, and that they surprise us in a good way. The thing is, what they've been releasing as singles for a couple of years (I'm referring to Viva (which is still great) and ETIAW) allows people to hate them for the wrong reasons. If people told me 10 years ago that Coldplay were boring, I would've thought that it was just their opinion, and I wouldn't have given a fuck. But if they told me today that they are a money-grabbing boys band, I would give a dozen fucks, because those people wouldn't know any better as they'd be deceived by the image Coldplay is giving themselves nowadays. An image I don't like. I'd be disappointed because they'd be missing out on the Coldplay I love. There's also people who say they love Coldplay. I'd think of these people as interesting, only to be disappointed to find out that they're the kind of people that only know a few singles and like Lady Gaga, Enrique Iglesias, All Time Low and Kesha (which shouldn't be that bad or say anything about their personality, but, you get my point).

It would be better, in my opinion, if they were a bit more rebelling (I'm not trying to sound hipster) and for example have released Major Minus instead of ETIAW as a first single.

I agree most with bellynelly:

QFT.

It's as if they want to change to a more boysband-like style because that attracts more people than an alternative band does. That's probably what they mean when they say they want to get better, in a utilitarist way (more popular = better). I'm not sure, but it would be sad, since I and many other loyal fans wouldn't be part of those people and there's quite enough artists out there who can please less mature preteens. Coldplay however really have the quality to change and still be a great alternative rock band. They also just give me the impression that a lot of their later work is a lot more superficial than their early work. A huge step backwards in that respect. Give me real, don't give me fake (luckily there are exceptions).

Some notes:

- I don't hate Fix You, I just don't like it.

- The uniforms look ok, but again, it's the whole concept that bothers me.

- Comparing Coldplay music to other Coldplay music is always comparing great to fantastic (obvious exceptions aside), so I do like X&Y, just not at all as much as AROBTTH for example.

- Reign Of Love is beautiful but kind of boring

- I love Twisted Logic to the extent of wanting to start a Twisted Logic appreciation club or something like that :p

- A Message is one of the best X&Y tracks.

That all being said, I'm still a big Coldplay fan and I'm still excited about Mylo Xyloto or whatever LP5 will turn out to be named. I'm sure it won't be as good as their old stuff, and it can disappoint me, but I'm also sure there will be lots of stuff I will like, there will be something for everyone, if you know what I'm saying. I believe in most of what they do, at least they've kept their integrity.

Well I'm glad this thread is done, and fucking hell, my posts always turn out to be way too long.

^ Agreed about the uniforms. I liked them during the Viva era (and the X&Y all-black look was freakin' awesome) but now they just seem . . . overdone? Like maybe they're trying just a bit too hard?

You should totally start a Twisted Logic Appreciation club

Maybe the uniforms have a meaning. Maybe it's part of the overload they're ironically firing at us. Along with the light show. I don't know. Still don't like.

One bad thing about Twisted Logic: the 50 something silent seconds at the end fuck up shuffles :p

I think I feel the opposite of what Tryptophan feels. I'm following Coldplay since Viva la Vida, though it wasn't Viva the first song I heard from that album, it was Violet Hill and I felt in love with the song and with the band. Of course I've heard of coldplay before Viva, but I don't know why I didn't pay much attention to them.

My point is, if they hadn't tried to be (let's say) mainstream, maybe a lot of people have never payed attention to their music, but thank God they went mainstream. The discovering of Viva helped me to discover the beautifulness of What If, Fix You, See you soon, Shiver, Yellow and so on...so I'm sure that a lot of people discovered these songs in the same way.

I think they do the music they want in every album, except in the case of X&Y, and we have to think that between every album there is a considerable space of time in which they as human beings change, as we do, because we all change and change our perspective of the world that surrounds us. So, if you are not the same person you can't do the same music. In my opinion this album reflects how they feel right now, we live in a dark world full of hate and they are trying to express that (the graffiti thing shows us they feel revels at their thirties, the colours try to bring happiness), and knowing they are happy and proud of what they are doing makes me feel happy. Maybe people should try to understand them not only as musicians but as persons.

And I think one never should be ashamed of what he likes, because it is who you are and people who respect you would do it no matter what your preferences are. I think that this is one of my favourite things I like of Coldplay they are proud of themselves as individuals.
