I totally know what you mean! I have this one co-worker and she once asked me if it was ok for her smoke next to me, but the way she asked it pretty much implied that she would be really annoyed if I said no. She was like, or am i going to have to move??

You should tell them to bugger off. Don't get used to passive smoking. It's not good and you shouldn't do it to yourself. I know it sounds hypocritical, but I really do worry for my friends who insist that it's OK that I smoke next to them.

 

Edited to say another thing: Me smoking is my own bloody problem. I enjoy it and I don't really want to quit. I really hate when people tell me I should stop smoking. With all the respect I give them to not smoke near anyone who dislikes it, I'd really like to get the same amount of respect back and to not get the "It's not healthy!" or worse "Ewwwww!!!" comments. It's immature, FMO.

 

<rant> The worst smokers are pose-smokers! Since I'm still in HS I see them oh so much. They don't inhale (which btw can cause mouth cancer), and they just look bloody stupid. Bah. Sorry for bitterness! </rant>
