People! I need your help - edit: Never mind not anymore

Featured Replies

For my homework, I'm supposed to "interview" someone from another country.

And I really need your help, so if you don't mind, could you answer this quick questions for me? :shy:

  • Name: (first name will do)
  • Where are you from:
  • Describe a characteristic that you consider strong and particular from the culture of your country and that you can see in how the people from there act.
  • Describe a diference that you have seen in the behaviour of the people from your country and people from another country that you have visited or researched about.
  • Why do you think these diferences exist?

If you could do this for me I will really appreciate it!

Name: Beatriz

Where: Spain

Charasteristic: spaniars are very sociable, open-minded, warm welcomers and easy to hang out cause are in general very festive. For instance, it's shown on tv: most our series involve a bar, and are more about people feelings and relationship or so. Also we are noisy, as speaking too loud.

Differences: other cultures i know are also like that but doesn't express it the same way, they are a bit more cold and more thinker. Again the comparison with tv, other countries have other different places where main characters hang out and are more scientific like. About noise cultures from the north europe are more quiet on that matter, where southern are yet more noisy than us, at least from the people i've known (cultures i know: UK, Portugal, Lithuania, Turkey)

Why?: I think that History (specially laws) and climate play a big part on those differences, but may be that's just my impression.

I hope that helps a bit.

new zealanders are fat and drink a lot and really love rugby for some reason i hate this country

to be real to me . I am a social case. so not from part of society. and I am not intelligente in my country and some time a woman paria or ill by the people .

So I suppose I have not identity . and I can not answer questions .

Where are you from: Slovenia

Describe a characteristic that you consider strong and particular from the culture of your country and that you can see in how the people from there act. We are quite envious of each other. There's a joke that's been going around for literally AGES about how we must have more and better things than our neighbours (they buy a car, you buy an SUV) and wish bad things would happen to them ("If only my neighbour's cow died and not mine!!"). We also tend to politicise everything. Looking at a news website, no matter what the news is, people will start talking about politicians and how fucked up the country is etc.

Describe a diference that you have seen in the behaviour of the people from your country and people from another country that you have visited or researched about. Comparing the UK to Slovenia, people there are much friendlier and quieter. Few people here would hold the door for you or wait for you to go up the stairs if they see you're in a hurry. I think we are louder and more passionate as the British but not nearly as passionate or impulsive as other people from the Balkans.

Why do you think these diferences exist? Because of the historical and geographic reasons, I suppose. Geographically, Slovenia's on the crossroads of various cultures (Austrians & Germans in the North, Italians in the West and Slavs elsewhere) and the people have been ruled by non-Slovenes for almost 1000 years, hence the differences in the mentality. That's why we don't really think of ourselves as a Balkan folk and whenever people call us Eastern Europeans, we're ready to fight for our Central European heritage with teeth and pitchforks :P

* Where are you from: Australia

* Describe a characteristic that you consider strong and particular from the culture of your country and that you can see in how the people from there act: Australians seem rather easy-going and laid back - I know, that's a very stereotypical observation, but it's true. Not extremely, but moreso than people of other countries. They hold 'being fair' rather high in their values. We're also a bit confused about our national identity, and what exactly it means to be Australian, whether it's values or birthplace or what.

* Describe a diference that you have seen in the behaviour of the people from your country and people from another country that you have visited or researched about: The laid-back attitude. Australians seem more than happy to relax a bit more than their foreign counterparts about everything. We're also much less patriotic than people of other countries, even to the point where we make fun of ourselves.

* Why do you think these diferences exist? They're rather traditional Australian values, and have survived many years, unlike other older values that have faded as influences of other countries like America change our culture. It's been taught through families as being the 'Australian' thing.

I would but we're from the same country :awesome:

I dont know if you want US history, or the East Coast culture :awesome:

Where are you from: Lebanon

Describe a characteristic that you consider strong and particular from the culture of your country and that you can see in how the people from there act: Lebanese people are very sociable, friendly and open to other cultures. They like to show off a lot too, you're better than your neighbors if your car is more expensive than theirs even if you had to borrow money to buy it; they have no problem judging you by where you buy your clothes...they care a lot about appearances. But they really know how to enjoy life and make the best of it.

Describe a diference that you have seen in the behaviour of the people from your country and people from another country that you have visited or researched about: Being extremely sociable, warm also being extremely attached to our families, most people don't move out of their parent's house until after they're married. You don't see many lebanese scientists like in other countries, most people here are looking to make fast and easy money.

Why do you think these diferences exist? I'd say after more than 30 years of war where death is just so present every day people have learned to know how to enjoy their life, go out, make friends, have fun, they don't have the patience to wait until they have enough money to go on that trip they always wanted to take or buy that expensive car they dream about...banks here would give you a loan to do absolutely anything (even plastic surgery) because the mentality of not being sure if there will be a tomorrow so you have to make the best of now has become a huge part of who we are. (same goes for why they care more about making fast money).

Describe a characteristic that you consider strong and particular from the culture of your country and that you can see in how the people from there act.

We sometimes care more about other peoples' lives than our own. :| (at least in high school, haha)

Describe a diference that you have seen in the behaviour of the people from your country and people from another country that you have visited or researched about.

I've noticed that people tend to be much more welcoming in foreign countries. . . in the US, there are nice people and nasty people, but many people are just in between. In every other country I've been in (Germany, several of the Virgin Islands), people are just all around happy for us to be there.

Why do you think these diferences exist?

I think it comes from the fact that the US is made up of many different cultures, so we're not quite as excited to see a new face. If that makes any sense?

If my answers are bad you don't have to use them. :uhoh:
