Temperatursturz, Nässe, Regen, Stau - die Voraussetzungen für das "größte Konzert des Jahres" sind alles andere als gut. Aber die 55.000 Coldplay- Fans im Olympiastadion lassen sich vom miesen, ja britischen Wetter nicht beirren. Im Gegenteil. Die gelben, grünen, pinken Schirme und Regencapes, mit denen sie sich auf diesem Abend vorbereitet haben, korrespondieren farblich perfekt mit der grellen Graffiti- Plane, die Coldplay hinter der Bühne aufgespannt haben.

Um zehn nach neun dann eine Überraschung: keine Spur von Chris Martin & Co. Aber aus den Boxen hämmert es den Gangster-Rap- Hit "99 problems" von Martin- Kumpel Jay-Z. Nicht gerade das, was die Fans hören wollen, aber dann wird es doch dunkel, die "Zurück in die Zukunft"- Fanfare ertönt und plötzlich verwandelt sich das Olympiastadion in einen Kindergeburtstag: Feuerwerk, Laserstrahlen, Konfetti, auseinandergerollte olympische LED-Ringe und ein flackerndes Meer an elektronisch gesteuerten Lichtarmbändern.

Mehr Reizüberflutung geht nicht. Und auf der Bühne tanzt Martin ausgelassen wie ein kleines Kind, springt die Bühnentreppe herunter und fragt: "Is there anybody out there?" Oh ja, sie sind alle da und schreien sich die Seele aus dem Leib. Ach ja, Musik gibt es auch, gleich zu Beginn den Hit "Hurts Like Heaven" vom neuen Album. In der Euphorie geht es fast unter, wie übersteuert der Sound ist. Aber Martin, der längst im T- Shirt herumtollt, nimmt die regengeschädigten Münchner gleich wieder in den Arm: "Guten Abend, es ist eine Ehre, hier in München zu sein". Nur um später am Klavier nochmal zu betonen: "I don't care about the rain." Und die Fans bei der gut zweistündigen Party auch nicht mehr.

Auch ein Star greift mal daneben

"Ich habe das schlecht gespielt. Ihr verdient eine bessere Version" - Mit diesen Worten brach Chris Martin einen Song ab. Dann setzte er mit seiner Gitarre neu an. Nach etwas mehr als eineinhalb Stunden war der Auftritt der Britpopper im Dauerregen zu Ende.

Drop in temperature, moisture, rain, traffic jams - the conditions for the "biggest concert of the year" are anything but good. But the 55,000 Coldplay fans in the Olympic Stadium can not be fooled by the lousy, yes British weather. On the contrary. The yellow, green, pink umbrellas and rain coats, with which they have been preparing for this evening, correspond perfectly in terms of color with the bright graffiti tarpaulin that Coldplay have spanned behind the stage.

Then at ten past nine a surprise: No sign of Chris Martin & Co. But out of the speakers is coming a very loud version of the gangster rap hit "99 problems" by Martin-pal Jay-Z. Not just what people want to hear. Then it is dark, the "Back to the Future" fanfare is heard and suddenly the Olympic Stadium is turned into a children's birthday party: Fireworks, lasers, confetti, Olympic LED rings that are rolled apart, and a flickering sea of electronically controlled light bracelets/wristbands.

More overstimulation / sensory overload is not possible. And Martin is dancing on stage in an exuberant mood like a child, he jumps down the stage stairs asking: "Is there anybody out there?" Oh yes, they are all there screaming like mad. Oh, and there is also music, at the beginning the hit "Hurts Like Heaven" from the new album. The euphoria is lowered a bit due to the overproduced sound. But Martin, who – high-spirited - is running around on the stage in the t-shirt, takes the rain-damaged Munich audience right back into his arms, "Good evening, it's an honor to be here in Munich." This is said in German (with a cute accent). Later, sitting at the piano, he emphasizes once more: "I do not care about the rain." Nor do the fans during the two-hour party.

Even a star makes small mistakes

"I've have not played that well. You deserve a better version." - With these words Chris Martin stopped in the middle of a song. Then he started the song again with his guitar. After little more than one hour and a half, the performance of the Brit poppers in continuous rain had come to an end.

The concert in Munich was just awesome! I have to questions for you... :p

I wonder if there will be a "Live"- DVD of the concert(s) ?!

I wanted to buy the Coldplay Hoody but unfortunately I did not have enough money :-/ Is there a possibility to buy the hoody online OR is someone of you going to one of the following concerts so I could give you the money in advance and you'll send me the hoody ?

München - Auch ein Weltstar greift mal daneben: Der Frontmann der britischen Erfolgsband Coldplay, Chris Martin, hat am Mittwochabend beim Konzert im Olympiastadion einen Song abgebrochen.

„Ich habe das schlecht gespielt. Ihr verdient eine bessere Version“, rief er den 55 000 Besuchern zu. Dann setzte er mit seiner Gitarre neu an.

Coldplay wärmten den Zuschauern im Olympiastadion mit Herbst-Hymnen das Herz. Kalt war’s, nass war’s, schön war’s, als die Engländer das Oly in eine kunterbunte Britpop-Kathedrale verhexten. Konfetti-Kanonen, Leuchtarmbänder für alle Fans, Feuerwerk - man kam kaum zum Hinhören vor lauter Hinschauen. Dabei mussten die Fans bis 21.15 Uhr warten und bibbern, bis Coldplay mit Mylo Xyloto und dem gitarrigen Hurts Like Heaven loslegten. Start für opulentes Augen- und Ohrenfutter, bei dem sich der Frühherbst mit etwas gutem Willen (fast) wie eine Sommernacht anfühlte. Aber wenn schon kalt, dann mit Coldplay!

Vor Beginn des Konzerts hatte es Ärger um Einschränkungen für Fotografen gegeben. Der Bayerische Journalisten-Verband (BJV) warf den Veranstaltern vor, die Bildberichterstattung massiv zu behindern und das Urheberrecht zu missachten. Der BJV-Vorsitzende Wolfgang Stöckel forderte die Medien auf, aus Protest auf eine Berichterstattung zu verzichten.

In den nächsten beiden Wochen treten Coldplay noch in Leipzig (14. September, Red Bull Arena) und Hannover (22. September, AWD-Arena) auf.

Concert in Munich: Coldplay stops in the middle of a song

München – Even a world star can make mistakes: The frontman of the British successful band Coldplay, Chris Martin, stopped in the middle of a song during the concert in the Olympic Stadium Wednesday night.

“I have not played that song well enough. You deserve a better version“, he shouted to the audience of 55,000 people. Then he started the song again with his guitar.

Coldplay warmed the hearts of the audience in the Olympic Stadium with autumn hymns. It was cold, it was wet, it was wonderful, when the Englishmen spellbound the Oly (short for Olympic Stadium) in a colourful (motley) britpop cathedral. Confetti cannons, flashing wristbands for all fans, fireworks – it was difficult to listen to the music because there was so much to look at. The fans had to wait until 21.15 (9.15pm central European time) and shiver until Coldplay kicked off the concert with Mylo Xyloto and the guitar-filled Hurts Like Heaven. It was the start of opulent food for both eyes and ears when the early autumn with some good will (almost) felt like a summer night. But if already cold, then with Coldplay!

Before the concert started, there had been anger in relation to restrictions for photographers. The Bavarian Association of Journalists (BAJ) accused the organizers of massively hindering the image part of the reporting and of violating the copyright. The BAJ chairman Wolfgang Stöckel urged the media to protest by refraining from reporting.

In the next couple of weeks, Coldplay are performing in Leipzig (14 September, Red Bull Arena) and Hannover (22 September, AWD-Arena).

Just checked some more media reviews. They were all very positive towards Coldplay and everything. And when watching some footage on YouTube, you see that the audience was in fine form despite the shit weather. The livestream wasn't that good. So all in all I think everybody was very satisfied.

Eisige Kälte und strömender Regen machen echten Briten nichts aus: Beim Konzert in München zeigen Coldplay, dass sie auch bei ungünstigen Bedingungen zur Höchstform auflaufen.

Am Ende ist der Regen sogar Teil der Show. Chris Martin stimmt irgendwann "Singin' in the rain" an und auf die Entfernung zur Bühne könnte man ihn glatt für den smarten Gene Kelly halten, der 1952 in dem gleichnamigen Musical steppte.

Das ist der Moment, an dem sich die Zuschauer plötzlich wieder erinnern, wo sie sind: Beim Konzert von Coldplay im Münchner Olympiastadion bei zwölf Grad Kälte und strömendem Regen. Das Gute daran: Bis zu diesem Zeitpunkt hatten sie die ungünstige Witterung glatt vergessen.

55.000 Zuschauer sind gekommen, um die Briten zu hören. Das Publikum rückt gut ausgerüstet in Gummistiefeln, Goretexjacken, wasserdichten Capes und Regenschirmen an. Selbst die vom Himmel herabstürzenden Fluten können die gute Laune nicht trüben - weder bei den Fans noch bei der Band. Als Briten dürften die vier Jungs von Coldplay das schlechte Wetter ja gewohnt sein - genauso wie die deutschen Fans.

Gleich zu Anfang kommt Sänger Chris Martin auf "the rain and all that shit" zu sprechen. Sie würden trotz der widrigen Bedingungen das beste Konzert spielen, auf dem die Münchner je waren, kündigt er an. Und ein bisschen sollte er recht behalten. Ganz egal, was man von der Band und ihren Pop-Songs halten mag - in einem vollen Stadion kann man sich der Magie der Balladen, der gut inszenierten Lichtshow und der Gefühlsduselei kaum entziehen.

Coldplay sind Meister der Bühnenshow. Diese ist aufwendig und dramaturgisch perfekt. An jeden Zuschauer wird etwa ein buntes Armband verteilt, alle Farben sind vorhanden. Bei manchen Songs fängt das Bändchen plötzlich rhythmisch an zu blinken - in Rot, Rosa, Blau, Grün, Gelb und Weiß. Man muss dabei gewesen sein, um die unglaubliche Stimmung zu spüren, wenn plötzlich im Publikum 55.000 Armbänder blinken.

Dann die Performance der Band. Besser gesagt, die von Chris Martin, der konsequent den bescheidenen Indie-Sänger gibt. Er vergisst manchmal absichtlich den Text und kokettiert mit einem Underdog-Image, das er vermutlich nie hatte, weil er doch längst zur Rampensau geworden ist, die ein ausverkauftes Stadion zum Toben bringen kann. Brav hat er ein paar Sätze auf Deutsch parat, die er so glaubhaft rüberbringt, dass ihm das Publikum abnimmt, er spreche aus Leidenschaft ein bisschen Deutsch.

Selbst die Promis singen mit

Dass er die gleiche Show, auf Spanisch, vor nicht allzu langer Zeit im River-Plate-Stadion in Buenos Aires ganz und gar identisch abgezogen hat, sogar mit den gleichen Textaussetzern, das weiß in München keiner. Wahrscheinlich spult Martin die Masche in jeder Stadt und in jedem Stadion, das Coldplay bespielt, identisch ab.

Trotz, oder vielleicht gerade wegen all der einstudierter Routine muss man den vier Jungs - neben Chris Martin ist Jonny Buckland an der Gitarre, Will Champion am Schlagzeug und Guy Berryman am Bass - lassen, dass sie sich nicht im Geringsten vom Münchner Sauwetter beeindrucken lassen und zwei Stunden gut gelaunt ihre Fans unterhalten.

Sämtliche bekannte Songs sind dabei, etwa "In your place", "The Scientist", "Warning Sign", "Viva la vida", "Paradise" und "Clock" sowie das zusammen mit Rihanna eingesungene "Princess of China", bei dem die Sängerin auf den großen Leinwänden eingeblendet wird. Erst drei Tage vor dem Konzert in München hatte sie mit Coldplay noch live gesungen: bei der Abschlussfeier der Paralympics in London.

Coldplay sind nicht nur Meister der Inszenierung, sondern auch eine echte Konsens-Band, was ihre Fans angeht. Neben Teenagern, jungen Muttis und jung gebliebenen Alternativen amüsieren sich auf der VIP-Tribüne unter anderen auch Feinkostkönig Michael Käfer mit Frau Clarissa und FC-Bayern-Spieler Bastian Schweinsteiger mit Freundin Sarah Brandner.

Am Ende müssen alle wieder raus in den Dauerregen - egal ob Normalo oder Promi. Verzückt lächeln sie dennoch alle. Das Wetter ist eben nicht immer alles.

Coldplay in Munich are masters of sentimentality

Real British do not mind freezing cold and pouring rain: At the concert in Munich Coldplay demonstrate that even in unfavorable conditions they are in top form.

At the end, the rain is even part of the show. At some point Chris Martin starts to sing "Singin' in the Rain", and due to the distance to the stage you could take him for being the smart Gene Kelly, who - in 1952 - stepdanced in the eponymous musical (i.e. musical having the same name).

This is the moment when the people in the audience suddenly recall where they are: At a Coldplay concert in Munich’s Olympic Stadium at 12 degrees Celsius and in pouring / torrential rain. The good thing: Until this time they had simply forgotten the bad weather.

55,000 people had come to hear the British band. The audience is well equipped in rubber boots, Goretex jackets, waterproof capes and umbrellas.

Even the torrential rain falling from the sky cannot spoil the good atmosphere – this applies to both the fans and the band. Being British, the 4 Coldplay guys must be used to bad weather - as well as the German fans.

Right at the beginning singer Chris Martin speaks of "the rain and all that shit." Despite the adverse conditions they would play the best concert the Munich audience had ever attended, he announces. And he was somewhat right. No matter what one may think of the band and their pop songs - in a full stadium, you cannot escape the magic of the ballads, the well-staged light show and the little sentimentality.

Coldplay are masters of the stage show. This is costly and dramaturgically perfect. A colourful wristband is handed out to each concert-goer, all colours are represented. During several songs the little wristband suddenly starts to blink rhythmically - in red, pink, blue, green, yellow and white. You must have been there in order to feel the unbelievable atmosphere when suddenly 55,000 wristbands begin to flash among the audience.

Then the band‘s performance. Or rather the performance by Chris Martin who consistently embodies the modest/humble Indie singer. Sometimes he deliberately forgets the lyrics and flirts with an underdog image that he probably never had, because he has been addicted to the limelight for quite some time, and because he can make a sold-out stadion jump in enthusiasm. Bravely, he has a couple of German sentences ready that he delivers so well that the audience interprets it as Chris Martin speaking a little German out of passion.

Even the celebrities are singing along

That he did the same show, in Spanish, not long ago in the River-Plate-Stadium in Buenos Aires (in Argentina), and 100 % identical to the show in Munich, even with the same text lines – that is known to noone in Munich. Probably Martin does this show including identical text lines in the language of the visited country in each town / city and at each stadium that Coldplay play.

Despite of - or maybe just because of - all the rehearsed routine, you must admit that the four boys – apart from Chris Martin they are Jonny Buckland on guitar, Will Champion on drums and Guy Berryman on bass – do not allow themselves to be affected by the the bad weather in Munich, and for almost 2 hours they cheerfully entertain their fans.

All the well-known songs are there (i.e. included in the setlist) such as "In your place", "The Scientist", "Warning Sign", "Viva la vida", "Paradise" and "Clock" plus "Princess of China" which has been recorded with Rihanna. When playing "Princess of China", Rihanna is displayed on the big screens. Only three days before the concert in Munich she had sung the song live with Coldplay: At the Paralympics closing ceremony in London.

Coldplay are not only masters of staging, but also a real consensus band in terms of their fans. Apart from teenagers, young mothers and young-at-heart alternatives, i.a. deli king Michael Käfer with his wife Clarissa and FC-Bayern player Bastian Schweinsteiger with girlfriend Sarah Brandner have fun at the VIP stand.

At the end, everybody must out in the continuous rain – whether you are a celebrity or not. They are all smiling an ecstatic smile.
