Meaning of the OBAMAR8CK

Featured Replies

Does anyone know what OBAMAR8CK means? I can't find it.

Where did you find that?

Well, the band while they were touring (before the 2008 election) were supporters of Barack Obama as the US President (why they would care about the US president so much I don't know)

And since it says "OBAMA"R8CK I'm assuming it has to do with him. They were pretty outspoken about it (and still are) so I believe that is what it is referring to.

Also, in the US that year, there was a liberal campaign to "Rock the Vote" that a lot of musicians supported. Basically, it was an effort to persuade young people to vote (because they usually vote liberally) and the unofficial symbol for it was R8CK (as in, rock in 2008). So that's what it means: Obama Rock 08

Hope I helped.

Thank you! It really helped! :) I've always wondered what that could mean!

Yep, I remember this. Barack Obama in '08.

@baw8cc, the US elections are followed worldwide and very closely. The USA is (economic problems or not) the most influential and powerful country. Whatever happens here will have a domino effect around the world. And other nations care because the USA put their nose in everybody else business.

Nah, obviosuly you're all wrong and the CK stands for Car Kids :wacky:

.... Sorry. :escaping:

I thought Coldplay were conservatives... I heard they supported conservative PM David Cameron and i'm pretty sure Fair Trade is a conservative thing. Maybe I'm wrong or maybe Coldplay is independent?

You're mistaken. Coldplay, through Chris Martin, are very much liberal. Chris' parents were conservative though. I don't know if they still are. Make Trade Fair which is about showing fairness to farmers from 3rd world countries by not inundating their markets with subsidized and cheap goods from the west couldn't possibly be a conservative issue.

I'm aware, I was just hoping to buck the stereotype when it comes to typical US conceit.

Psssh. MTF is one of the most liberal organizations around. The entire method of conservative economics are free market domination, so big businesses are more ruthless.

well, Chris's wife is also American and some (if not all) of the Coldplay boys do own houses in America, so it's not like they're totally unaffected by what goes on here.

bah you know in the Pub Bar English for singles where I go, across from the Casino they are advertising with the image of Obama .

I think he has put this time in 2008 not to campaign but more to advertise their Pub Bar for the smokers in room and track dancing

I'm just off a thread, you know that the Swiss state does not much for Swiss farmers.

the farmers have always demand to the state for their right to survive. and I forget the Swiss multinationals food kills them too.

Make Trade Fair this is a good consept for multinational make better business by exploiting the poor more. Make Tade Fair for the bosses :

people poors need not much money but stability and gives them little . and multinational to pay twice as much to consumers so the other half goes into the pockets of the bosses multinational.

I know that is not the Make Trade Fair that Oxfam and Coldplay advocate at all.

(why they would care about the US president so much I don't know)

America is the most powerful and influential nation in the world so of course people care. The saying goes, if America sneezes the world catches a cold.

Oh, I got beat to it. :disappointed:

I don't see how they could still follow Obama after everything he did (Or didn't do is what I should be saying) in the last 4 years.

Really? Is that what they think about us in Europe? I always thought whenever we came up it was jokes about hamburgers in a southern accent...

Interesting Fact

I don't really know, if this was meant to mean it, but i found out something really interesting:

If you read the letters in a specific order, than it could mean the following: Barack Obama 8.

I've made a picture to illustrate and explain clearer what has been said so far:
