On Seeing Coldplay in Boston

Kicking off Coldplay's second show in Boston last night, Chris Martin told the audience the band would perform the best show they've ever played. Maybe he says that in every city that Coldplay hits, but Monday's show was really something to remember. The lights, the energy onstage and the mix of old and new songs made it one of the best concerts I've ever seen live (and I've seen U2, so that's saying something). Looking around the Garden at the blinking wristbands each concert-goer received, it looked as if the arena had been filled with thousands of decorated Christmas trees. The show was unreal, Coldplay performed far beyond the point that I expected and they gave a performance in Boston that'll be pretty hard to beat for the rest of the tour.

Coldplay: Live at TD Garden in Boston on July 30th 2012

 

So, I never do a concert review or any sort of reflection after I see a show and believe me I’ve been to so many but after last night, I think I owe just that to Coldplay for their incredible, unreal, beautiful show at the TD Garden last night in Boston. I’ve Been listening to Coldplay for the past 8 years of my life, they’ve been my favorite band for as long as I can remember. I still remember the first time I heard one of their songs, it was “Clocks” when it first came out off their smash album “A Rush of Blood to the Head” and two years later I started to really get into them. Seeing them in concert last night was unreal and felt like a dream.

Coldplay’s Mylo Xyloto Tour rolled into Boston on July 29th, for a two night stand in the mecca of New England, I got the pleasure of going to arguably the better night which was July 30th. Chris Martin frontman of the band told the crowd after finishing the opening song, “Hurts Like Heaven”, “Twenty years from now, when we’re asked what our favorite show we ever played was, I would love to say that it was Boston on a Monday night in 2012” They immediately smashed into their 2002 hit “In My Place”. In addition to Coldplay’s wild, trippy light show that has been apart of their show since their tour back in 2002, A unique glowing wristband, cleverly named the “Xyloband” was introduced to fans for their current tour as a way to get their fans to feel as if they were part of the show, and also as a promotional item for their upcoming “Coldplayfilm”which rumor has it was filmed a few nights ago in Montreal.

The Mylo Xyloto tour is one of a kind, I cannot compare it to anything i’ve ever seen. It was a colorful blend of music, light and sound and a one of a kind show, They smashed through some of their biggest hits as well as moved around the arena, including an acoustic set in the Loge are of the arena far beyond the stage. They managed to bring the crowd on a journey through music in just under an hour and a half. It almost felt like time travel, cleverly enough they opened the beginning of the show with the playing of the “Back to The Future” theme. I believe overall Coldplay proved themselves to be among the world’s greatest bands last night with a breathtaking show that I and the some 20,000 others in attendance with me last night experienced. Hats off to Coldplay for throwing one hell of a party last night in Boston! Cheers!

I never do reviews either, and I don't even know what to put or how to start, all I can say is that this concert, and the night before, were the best nights of my life (so far at least). It was incredible, there are no words to describe it, its just an incredible feeling being there and seeing them right there in front of you. I see footage and concerts on TV all the time, but nothing else compares to seeing them live! Nothing! So with that said, thank you Coldplay for the best nights of my life!!!

I agree with you Wabbit, the concert was awesome ! I still can't believe that we got Green Eyes, unreal ! The show they deliver during the Mylo Xyloto Tour is really rich and I think for people it makes it one of the best concerts they've ever done. It's hard to compete with such a show !

 

I think it's great to write a review, even a short one because then we'll be able to remember all the details of the show. Yes it mzy takes a while but it's worth it ! I love reading my old reviews so I can live the gigs I've been to again.

Thanks. I wasn't on the floor. I was in lower section 12, in the 3rd row. My seat was on the aisle, so I had a great unobstructed view for the entire show.

 

I loved the show even though I was there on my own. (I couldn't convince my friend to go to both shows :laugh3:) The crowd in my section was great, and everyone was singing and dancing. I wish I could go to another show.

The only thing I forgot to say was that my Xyloband wasn't working the entire time :( But of course I got it to turn on after the show.

Stage used Drumsticks and picks from Boston MA 30 July 2012

 

Hello. I am a Coldplay fan and lucky to have a brother in law who works as a union stagehand. He worked the Boston MA 30 July 2012 show that Coldplay did at the TD garden. He picked up 3 drumsticks , the but end of 2 have a small inked "circle" on it. - 1 of which was broken tip. and 2 guitar picks- 1 of which was velcroed.. See photo! I am always looking to trade for other picks and sticks of bands I like.

This is the complete concert made up of footage from the two Boston shows, July 29 and July 30. There are over 20 view points of the show. This is compiled with over 50 different videos from which I found on YouTube. This is great for anybody who went to those specific concerts, or for anyone else for that matter. I really wanted to put my editing skills to the test. Some of the audio and video is off and I am not sure why, because it was synced up when I was editing it, but overall it's not too bad. Anyway I would appreciate your feedback! Thank you! :D

Well isn't it ironic that a Boston show was on 30 July 2012 and three years later, Coldplay played at Gillette Stadium in what Coldplay calls Boston on 30 July 2016.
