December 30, 201114 yr I have managed to recreate Jonny's weird reverb guitar effect that is used throughout the song. I used my new Digitech RP500 which I love! Tell me what you think... does it sound like it?
December 30, 201114 yr sounds great, but not jet like the original  I think jonny's sounds is a "sharper" tone
January 2, 201214 yr Sorry, still new to all these abbrevations... LiJ? Nevermind, I guess LiJ is Lovers in Japan.
January 3, 201214 yr Fairly sure I read somewhere that Jonny uses an Eventide preset to get that sound.
January 3, 201214 yr Author Thanks for the tips guys, here is my second attempt... [ame=http://soundcloud.com/samerater/lijsound2]LiJsound2 by samerater on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free[/ame]
January 4, 201214 yr Author ^lol beginning reminds me of up with the birds :D Yeah it's the same sort of sound, it's been in a lot of songs since Viva.
January 4, 201214 yr For the studio versions I think he just uses his e-bow and his Boss RV-5 on the modulation setting. It's worth giving it a shot.
January 4, 201214 yr Author For the studio versions I think he just uses his e-bow and his Boss RV-5 on the modulation setting. It's worth giving it a shot. I don't have an RV-5 though and I don't think he uses an e-bow. I was just trying to get close with what I have.
January 4, 201214 yr Author Jonny's definitely playing tremolo, don't think he's used e-bow since the A Rush era. Seems pretty accurate. The attack sounds nearly spot on. It's hard to gauge the tone without hearing you playing the song...come on, howabout it? :D Maybe tomorrow, I have lots of work to do :P and yeah he is playing tremolo, that's what I'm doing too.
January 5, 201214 yr The RV-5 is really worth it. I got one and the modulate mode is just.. well.. it's just Jonny :D Is he really using a tremolo? With a heavy reverb you can also hit the strings with a pic and it will almost sound like "one" sound.
January 6, 201214 yr Author When we say tremolo, we mean tremolo picking, picking fast enough so if resembles a single long note.
January 6, 201214 yr 6 years of playing guitar and never heard of this name, though I know the playing method. Proves that you can never learn everything :D
January 6, 201214 yr Author I've been playing for about 4 years and I hadn't heard the name either up until about a week ago!
January 10, 201214 yr It's definitely not the RV5. I'm pretty sure it's the Eventide. It's a combination of Reverb, Tremolo Picking, and an oscillating effect (this last is the really tricky part.) You might have better luck replicating the sound with a leslie simulator of some kind (like a Rotosphere) than with a Reverb.
