lovebeginswith
Have you thought about looking online for a cheap little one? If its only for little things, a netbook might be perfect.

Black Rose
You can get good quality laptop risers from Poundland for a Pound (ok they won't win any style awards if you drop a brick on one, it will probably break), should help improve air circulation. rainplay
I had a compaq and it did the exact same thing! I got a fancy cooling pad and everything and it still was boiling hot. You should just get a new one. But stay away from HP laptops (compaq is made by HP), they notoriously suck. When I used to work in Electronics for Walmart, they were always returned. And then we got a notice saying HP were going to ditch making laptops cause their sales sucked so bad and yeah. But I got a Gateway a few months ago and it's awesome, and it was just around $300 for 6GB ram and 750GB HDD and a good graphics card, so really cheap for a lot of memory and speed. Buying something from Poundland is like buying referbished goods from the junk yard.....I'm sorry but I dont trust buying electronics for my PCs through Poundland or it's USA counterpart: Dollar Tree

That's pretty good. You always want higher ram and a good Processor. AMD is good for casual computing, it depends on the model, but for HD gaming, video editing, and or photoshopping, a good graphics card and an Intel processor, preferably i7 (i5's good as well,) is the best way to go.
