Yeah, there are synth sounds on IMP,at least on the album.

I could be wrong, but I think that's a string part.

EDIT: didn't see your above comment before I posted, I stand corrected.

Let's look at Radiohead. They are also one of the world's most successful acts, and from what I've seen/heard they rarely play two setlists the same in a tour. Now granted RH have been around a bit longer than Coldplay, but Coldplay still have enough of a back catalogue that they could mix up their setlists a bit.

Yes, but they're completely different kinds of bands. Radiohead have (since after OK computer) been actively trying to avoid becoming a "big band". Coldplay have totally embraced that role at this point. The two bands are 180 degrees apart from each other these days, and I'm not sure coldplay could successfully switch gears and go the radiohead route if they wanted to (and I don't think they do.) It would be cool, but it's never gonna happen.

I at least hope the setlist gets extended, last I checked it was rather short

This

It would be amazing if they pulled a Radiohead and played a different set each gig, but I think that's asking too much.

They took a step in the right direction by doing 1-2 song substitutions with stuff like COL, Shiver, ENL...even Daylight, What If. If they added a couple slots for that so we could hear things like SS, LIJ, Square One...etc.

It's as yet unknown how permanant that is though. The first several shows of the VLV tour featured similar substitutions. I think it just takes them awhile to lock down a set they like. We can hope though...

THey still did the occasional substitution later on in the Viva tour, so there's always hope.

one thing i'm almost sure is that all of the summer stadium shows are gonna have the same setlist. Arenas are the venues they can change one thing or two, but yeah, once they find something they like, they're gonna stick with it no mather what.

^ Which is fine for the casual fans that only go to one or two concerts, but for us Coldplayers who wind up listening to / attending multiple concerts, it gets kind of boring :P

That segment of the audience is really tiny compared to the causual concert goers though. In the numbers game, you just can't compete. :(

I agree the performance wasn't exactly great, but they couldn't be great ALL the time? Surely there's bound to be some bad performances?

I personally think Mylo Xyloto, although a good album, isn't as good as Viva La Vida. I only liked Hurts Like Heaven, ETIAW, and DLIBYH. I liked the fact that they are not scared to experiment with new stuff, like they did with Viva, but it's not exactly a good attempt. A hit and miss situation, really. The new album is all happy, and cheery, so expect the band to wear colourful clothing and be cheerful during their concerts. I actually went back to U2 for a while after listening to MX. It was that disappointing.

All I gotta say is I hated the decision of releasing Paradise single before Charlie Brown.... Charlie Brown had it all!

and I hate that Oracle answered one of my questions saying "Paradise is more representative of what the album is".... ¬¬

=( ...

I dont like this kind of things and totally agree that they meesed up the release of Charlie Brown single.... Even with that Song got to have the 22 place in the UK charts, but I certainly know it could've been better if they would have released as normal - Video, Single and Radio plays at the same time.

Even though the choice of single may be seen as something of an artistic failure (depending on your point of view). I really can't say I fault the band for making the choice they did. Paradise is their 2nd most successful single ever in the UK, so it did work out for them in the end. And I gotta say Paradise is more indicative of MX as a whole than Charlie Brown, so if that's what they were going for, I think they made the right call there too.

I haven't read all the 10 pages, only the last, but in an interview once (it's on yt) Chris said that Paradise was the first song they wrote on MX and the whole album is inspired by that song. So i think it's the best choise to release paradise before CB

Actually CB is the first song they wrote. But Paradise is Chris' favorite song and like it or not it is catchier and more complex than CB and I see it as the album's centerpiece. But I'm not gonna argue that they blew CB's promotion. Their choice of singles was right and in the correct order, and I'd choose HLH as the album's 5th and final single after PoC.

Listen to it a couple of more times until you become this person. :P

And I'm so glad that both of Chrissy's favorite songs have been #1s in the UK. :dazzled:

^ I'm sure Chris doesn't have just one favourite. Paradise and Viva are probably among his favourites but I doubt he could narrow it down to just one. I'm sure he's said that Politik, Clocks, Yellow and Fix You are also his favourites.

Well sure. That was what he said the last time he was asked this question at Howard Stern, favorite songs to perform live to be precise, and that was way before Paradise hit #1. He said VLV, Paradise, then he paused and said The Scientist and maybe one more song, Clocks I think...

Ugh, how could Paradise be Chris' favorite Coldplay song? No offense to those of you that like it, but seriously. Ugh.

bah just crazy of this song in his mind word "Paradise" is crazyness

Right! He's given different answers through the years. But Paradise is the newest and what he's promoting and singing at almost every gig at the moment, so it makes perfect sense it'd be at the top of his list right now.

i didn't read through the whole thread, but i'm just responding to the begining of it.

if i only listened to music that other people around me liked, i wouldn't be listening to coldplay. i'd be listening to dubstep. thank god i don't let other people decide what types of music i like!

i get flack from my musician friends as well, but i don't really care, because to me, coldplay is JUST THAT GOOD.

hatin's bad yo.

Oddly enough, my musician friends have come around to respecting Coldplay because they respect me musically, lol. THank God you've been spared dubstep!

Are you a musician?

May I ask what you play. I'm a bassist of somewhat limited skill, and an even less skillful guitarist. :laugh3:
