The 2012 Billboard Music Awards will take place at Las Vegas' MGM Grand and be broadcast live Sunday May 20, 8/7c on ABC. Music fans can also follow news about the show and related events on Twitter at @Billboard or on Facebook.com/Billboard.

 

The awards will reflect Billboard's chart rankings based on key fan interactions with music, including album sales and downloads, track downloads, radio airplay and touring as well as streaming and social interactions on Facebook, Twitter, Vevo, Youtube, Spotify and other popular online destinations for music.

 

These measurements are tracked year-round by Billboard and its data partners, including Nielsen Entertainment and Next Big Sound. The awards will be based on the reporting period of March 1, 2011 through February 29, 2012. Top artists will be recognized in a variety of genres, including R&B, Rap, Pop, Country, Rock, Latin and Alternative.

Great, but I hope Foster The People will also win some awards. They have to win a big award for their amazing album.

Well, they sadly won't be there to pick the potential prizes since they'll be here in Madrid, rocking... (not so sadly, then, cause I'll be there). But let's hope for a couple of prizes or more :)

 

I find it kind of difficult though... if the awards are based on the period from March '11 to Feb '12... they guys only have five months (Mylo Xyloto came out in October) to beat everyone else!

Only competing with Adele in 2 categories, so they have a chance to win at least 1 of the other 5 prizes.

It's ool they're nominated, jeej! But the categories are a bit strange.. I don't think paradise is alternative, don't think the album is alternative and the band itself is also not alternative?

Coldplay is a staple in Us alternative radio, Paradise went number one in US alternative radio, so basing from what the radio people thinks, theyre pretty much alternative ;)

 

Itunes also put them in the alternative field ;) well, its a matter of opinions i guess :D

Band nominated in three categories for 2012 awards

 

Good afternoon. We're very pleased to report that Coldplay have been nominated for three awards at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards. They're up for Top Group/Duo, Top Alternative Artist and Top Rock Artist. The ceremony takes place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Sunday 20 May. It will be broadcast live on ABC in the US. LOL, yeah, U.S. radio can be very confusing sometimes with its descriptions of what constitutes "rock" or "alternative" (or, in the case of the Grammys, "new" sometimes).

 

But whatever, still really cool regardless. As stated by someone in this thread already, they won't be there in person, which is a shame, but I'll still watch anyway to see if they do indeed win the awards they're up for (now there's a "You know you're addicted to Coldplay when..." moment...).
