April 23, 201214 yr becoming a coldplay fan was the first time i ever took music 'seriously' and didn't just listen to pop music on the radio but in this (rather short) time i've been exposed to music, i haven't listened to anything.. uh.. not modern except for maybe radiohead, björk, sigur ros but that doesn't really count like i've never REALLY listened to the beatles AM I A SHAME OF THE LORD i guess i'm interested in either something poppy or electronic-y as well as psychedelic music or something that's rather repetitive and catchy and stays in your head? this is obviously a very broad set of criteria but i just want to hear of something YOU enjoy halp pls oh god please guide me on the right road to being a "proper" music lover
April 23, 201214 yr Author also where is the online users thing is there NOBODY ON THE FORUM hello : ((((((((
April 23, 201214 yr I just have nothing to say. I'm younger than you are... Anything blink related (blink-182, Angels and Airwaves, +44, etc) I started liking The Cure a lot too... Alex Day? :P Ooooh, heyhihello and The Hoosiers are really good too. Brent, this will anger you and you'll contradict my post. :|
April 23, 201214 yr I would say go for some Beatles of course but also take a look at The Who. Both of those bands started poppy and moved to more psychedelic sounds (Sgt Pepper, Tommy). Pink Floyd and The Doors are great but a little intense if you're just starting out. Maybe try out "Touch Me" or "Hello I Love You" before delving deeper into their catalogues. How I discovered music was through The Beatles. Yeah, it's cliche, but so many bands are influenced by them you can use them as a great jumping off point. Cream is great psychedelic blues if you like that, but judging by your preferences I would say start with Sgt. Pepper. It's a great album (just lay down and listen to it all the way through. You won't be dissapointed).:)
April 23, 201214 yr Author What exactly do you want? Classic stuff? Your post confuses me Yes It's confusing because I don't know what I want, I was never exposed to this kind of music at home, I kinda had to find out about music for myself and my knowledge is still very limited. But given that we're on a music forum about a band, we must have similar preferences so if you guys gave me suggestions I think I would like them tl;dr yes classic bands pls

Except for the Cure. You COULD define them as classic.
April 23, 201214 yr Except for the part about The Cure. The Cure sounds like it would be good for you Dee. I'd also maybe check out Echo and the Bunnymen. I know Chris is a big fan and they have a similar post punk sound.
April 23, 201214 yr Author I just have nothing to say. I'm younger than you are... ooh i thought i was the youngest Alex Day? :P the youtuber? Anything blink related (blink-182, Angels and Airwaves, +44, etc) I started liking The Cure a lot too... Alex Day? :P Ooooh, heyhihello and The Hoosiers are really good too. well, this isn't exactly old music, but i appreciate music recommendations in general, thank you madison :) EDIT: whoops skipped the part about the cure yes, i see, this is about the genre of music thank you

April 23, 201214 yr Author This is now a thread where I am confused and misread everything and say "OMG THNK UUUUUUUUUUUUU" in every post
April 23, 201214 yr like i've never REALLY listened to the beatles AM I A SHAME OF THE LORD i guess i'm interested in either something poppy or electronic-y as well as psychedelic music or something that's rather repetitive and catchy and stays in your head? 1. Get in your car. 2. Buy the complete works of Animal Collective, an ecstasy pill, and a children's ball pit. 3. You're welcome. this is obviously a very broad set of criteria but i just want to hear of something YOU enjoy halp pls oh god please guide me on the right road to being a "proper" music lover To get the obligatory stuff, listen to some f-in Beatles. At the very least do Sgt. Pepper, Abbey Road and White Album. As far as other classic 'old' music that you ought to seriously listen to at least once... The Doors Self-titled, Old Billy Joel, Pink Floyd, The Velvet Underground, The Smiths, Eric Clapton (while you're at it, B.B. King and that whole blues generation), 80s U2 Albums, maybe some Jazz (Dave Brubeck, Coltrane a Love Supreme...) I know it's not 'old old' but Nirvana and Jeff Buckley are musts as well...
April 23, 201214 yr If you want to get into The Beatles, like Reilly says go with Revolver. Try some Bob Dylan too: Freewheelin, Highway 64 Revisited the easiest way to do it would probably be to go album-by-album instead of artist-by-artist. Check out a list like this one http://www.rollingstone.com/music/lists/500-greatest-albums-of-all-time-19691231 and just kind of go with what sounds good. Try The Velvet Underground and Nico. It's awesome. You know, the one with the banana on the cover. Sorry my post is really unfocused.
April 23, 201214 yr Velvet Underground was one of the first old bands I got into when I was a young teenager and Loaded did it for me, I don't know which albums better to get into but I found it very easy to connect with, in comparison with other artists like Bob Dylan or Neil Young which took a lot more patience at the time.
April 23, 201214 yr ooh i thought i was the youngest the youtuber? well, this isn't exactly old music, but i appreciate music recommendations in general, thank you madison :) EDIT: whoops skipped the part about the cure yes, i see, this is about the genre of music thank you  I just turned 13 in December. /fetus He's a musician as well. Yeah, I read the thing again, and I thought about removing my post, but then decided not to. YAY!

April 23, 201214 yr i joined when i was 11 /egg cell yes, i've listened to chameleon circuit, i didn't care for the second album perhaps because i have an irrational hatred for series 6 of doctor who did you like it SO CLOOSE. I meant that I'm younger than you right now. Yeah, I did. Some of the songs on there were pretty good. (Silence and the End of All Things :dazzled:) As for the series... I thought it was alright. Alex Day is also a solo artist :P That's what I meant.
April 24, 201214 yr Well, if you're looking for 'older' bands, I would suggest The Beatles U2 The Who Journey Queen Eagles . . . Okay, some of those aren't all that old, but they have some pretty good songs :P Good luck!
April 24, 201214 yr . . . Okay, some of those aren't all that old, but they have some pretty good songs :P Good luck! which ones are not that old? They're all really old!

April 24, 201214 yr Author Oh, this thread was moved. Probably a better idea, WoM would have more expertise in this. Thanks to the new responses, greatly appreciated : )
April 24, 201214 yr I was listening a lot to The Beatles and related these days, so maybe as everyone here told you, you should start with some of their latest works. As a personal recommendation I would tell you to listen to Paul McCartney's "Chaos and Creation at the Backyard". It's from 2005 so it's not actually old, but i've been listening to it these days and I think it's pretty good. I don't know if you'll like it because I don't know your taste in music, but if you want you should try and listen to it :)
