Here is a topic that I thought might be interesting to get some other people's opinions on and it might even lead to some people being turned on to some new music which is always good...

 

Who do you find to be "the best" at this thing we all love... music?

 

Who is the best drummer in music today?

best vocalist?

best bass player?

best guitarist?

best lyricist?

best songwriter?

best producer?

 

and anything else you might want to add.

 

of course it is all opinion and the best to you could mean a lot of things... pure skill level, originality, technique, and so on... but I'd love to hear what people think.

In my opinion the best drummer right now is Matt Helders from the Arctic Monkeys he is awesome :wideeyed: :D

My favourite bassist right now is Jared Followill from the Kings of Leon

Best guitarist today, I think there are too many but i would say that some of my favourites are Alex Turner and Jonny Buckland (obviously :D )

Best songwriter Alex Turner( the songs 505 and too much to ask are pure genius)

Best Vocalist probably Matt Bellamy or Alex Turner

I really don't know about best producer :thinking:

I'm gonna be the arsewipe and say "no one's the best because everyone does different things." My favourites however, are...

 

Drummer: Keith Moon, failing that, Animal from the Muppets. True rock and roll.

 

Vocalist: Hope Sandoval of Mazzy Star, she melts my heart. <3

 

Bassist: I'm tempted to go for the Who again and say Entwhistle. He was practically the rhythm guitarist a lot of the time, like Chris from Muse.

 

Guitarist: I'm gonna go with either Graham Coxon of Blur or Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead. Two completely different guitarists, but love them both equally. They both have a brilliant gauge of how to control pure noise, which I love.

 

Lyricist: Alex Turner is my hero, lyrically. Special mention to Scroobius Pip, while I'm at it though.

 

Songwriter: Toss-up between Noel Gallagher and Damon Albarn.

 

Producer: Jamie XX, Burial, No ID, or Basement Jaxx. I'm the biggest Basement Jaxx fan on the planet, I think :P

Providing best doesn't equal most techincally talented...
