HMV, the UK’S last major high-street music retailer, is expected to go into administration as early as Tuesday, putting 4,350 jobs at risk.

HMV, the music and DVD retailer employing about 4,350 staff, has become the latest casualty on the High Street after appointing an administrator.

 

Deloitte was appointed to run the 239-store chain following a meeting of the HMV board on Monday evening, the BBC understands.

 

A formal announcement is expected later.

 

HMV has been in crisis for months, and in December warned it faced a possible breach of bank loan agreements.

 

HMV has faced intense competition from the boom in buying music and DVD online.

hmv are assholes, they said they'd send me a £10 voucher which i'd earned from spending a certain amount and they never did :phu:

still hopefully they'll be super cheap sale which will be like heaven :awesome:

I wonder if Blockbuster will go bust here, too. It wasn't long after GAME UK went into administration that GAME AU also did and then closed all their stores.
