I've had such a battle today.

I listened to The Mars Volta's De-Loused in the Comatorium and got really into that ... and I'm always a little drained when I devote too much of my processes to that album ...

 

... but then I listened to Aretha Franklin's new album ... and while nowhere near as good as the Mars Volta, it was a very nice album ... a great surprise.

 

And surprises are sweet.

It's alternative rock, but it's also on the far fringe of alt-rock. It's not very poppy at all.
