NumbersGirl
Seattle man who few knew was wealthy donates almost $188 million to charity following his death (WXYZ) - Seattle Children's Hospital, the University of Washington School of Law and the Salvation Army have announced the identity of the unlikely man who donated them his $187.6 million estate. The donation came from Jack McDonald, a lawyer who died in September at 98. McDonald is described as a frugal man who clipped coupons, bargain hunted and used his senior bus pass to save money, all while using his ability to pick stocks to help grow his family's trust with an eye towards donating the money to charity for the benefit of generations to come. In fact, few outside of McDonald's immediate family knew he was a wealthy man. Yearly income from the trust will be given to all three organizations. Seattle Children's will receive forty percent, the law school will receive 30 percent, and the Salvation Army will receive the remaining 30 percent to benefit programs in the Pacific Northwest. The University of Washington Law School says the gift is the biggest in their 114 year history. Seattle Children's says the gift is the largest known gift to any US children's hospital for the purpose of pediatric research. link

NumbersGirl
Yeah, I think it was something about how they treat their disabled employees or something like that. I don't remember. But a newly-classic song got it's name from it so it can't be all bad.
