Coldplay's deal with Parlaphone to end after LP7?

Featured Replies

omg i was watching the howard stern all over again and i found out something

HW: "you own your own music right"

CM: "No we own hardly of it"

HW: "You sold off the rights?"

CM: "We don't own it for at least 20 years or something"

are you sure he was serious?

yes 100% and then he went on saying that they are not on the publishing but on the ??? (i understood bit or bid idk) of the publishig, which means they own a lot of the publishing but not so much of the recordings, explaining why people think bands are much reacher than what they really are.

:surprised: Fascinating!

Coldplay is a very popular band, I think that if Parlophone drops them after LP7, they'll get scooped up by another label in no time. I'd like to see them with Sony Records, then they would be under the same umbrella as my second favorite band, The Script.

Whoever they go with, I hope they actually put some effort into singles and EPs. I mean PHYSICAL CDs. The GS era had some of the most beautiful artwork and none of it went into digipaks/hard cases. Makes me cry :(

is Sony good for them? its seems like Coldplay is way too big for them to handle.

Ok lets make some numbers

2015 LP7

2016 Tour

2017 last leg of the tour + hiatus

2018 proper hiatus + first recording sessions

2019 LP8 and Parlophone's deal with them is 20 years old, which means Coldplay gains their rights for the songs

I don't know, I thought Sony was the 2nd biggest record company in the world.

I honestly think it could go either way. I'd love for them to make their own label (perhaps because Mumford & Sons did, and they're another band I admire greatly) because I think they'd put so much passion into it and I think it would be so beneficial for them to do completely their own thing, but on the other hand I don't know how feasible it would be - as others have said, they all seem to be so busy with other projects! I think they seem to have done well with Parlophone but I don't know how thing are with Universal/Warner/whoever the hell they're owned by now! I know for sure that I do NOT want them to sign to an Apple-founded label!

Did anyone watch the voice today?

Pretty funny how he avoided the questions about lp7 :D
