grids
Annie Mac is to be the new host of BBC Radio 1's weekday evening new music show with current host Zane Lowe leaving to go to work for Apple in the US. Lowe has hosted the night-time show, which is broadcast Monday to Thursday 7-9pm, since 2003. He will be replaced by Mac from Monday, March 9. The DJ, who began her radio career as a broadcast assistant to Zane Lowe on the show, will now take over. Announcing his departure, Lowe said: "The station has allowed me to share incredible music with the country's best music fans - I've loved every minute of it. Exciting times lie ahead." In recent years Lowe's global profile has extended with a number of headline-making interviews including Kanye West, Eminem and Jay Z. Details of his new position at Apple are yet to be specified. Irish DJ Mac will continue to host the station's flagship dance show on Friday evenings, but has handed over her Sunday evening show, Musical Hot Water Bottle, to Phil Taggart. He will also continue to host his Thursday evening future music show on the network. Confirming the news in a statement, Radio 1 controller Ben Cooper said: "Annie has proven she is a great ambassador for new music, and I’m delighted that she’s bringing her passion and knowledge to young audiences across the week. I’d like to thank Zane for 12 wonderful years at Radio 1, and wish him and his family all the very best." Meanwhile, Annie Mac added that she is "humbled and excited" to be taking control of the evening show. "The thing I love about music radio is those private epiphanies it provides. Having 11 hours of airtime a week to share those moments with music that has no boundaries, is beyond a job, it’s a privilege. And to be following in the footsteps of Zane Lowe, a broadcaster that I respect and admire enormously, is a huge honour. I can’t wait to get started." As well as being a radio DJ, Annie Mac is also a club DJ and hosts Annie Mac Presents events around the world. Later this year she will also host her own festival, Lost & Found, in Malta. http://www.nme.com/news/various-artists/82900?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=zane

getithom
Having Zane lead something with iTunes Radio could be very good news. I like the guy as is, so I'm really excited to see what role he'll have. Who wants to bet Chris will be one of the first people interviewed?
