  • Finally a new album from the band! Haven't heard the full album yet, just the 3 pre-released songs and they're great.

I also have a set of drum sticks from prior shows and they have snowflakes on them as well.

oooh!!! sweeet!!! snowflakes squeee!!! :D

Yay, first time I actually receive one of the newsletters!

Your chance to win a Drum Skin signed by all of the band

yeah!!! me too!!!

& at least it's not after the competition's over...which was what happened with the last SP competition i tried to enter. :shame:

btw, did you receive any email from them? or is it that existing members don't get sent the email confirmation thingy?

& anyone here taking part in The Christmas Project thing over at thirdbar.com (i think that was the site)?

Oh the show was awesome last night!

It was ridiculously hot (it was an outdoor gig) and the heat was Gary's favorite topic of conversation..."I love this city, but seriously, how do you people go outside?? It's fucking hot!"

They were incredible... lots of energy in spite of the somewhat dull crowd. I was front row center-ish, a bit more toward Nathan's side. Highlights of the show for me were Run, Open Your Eyes, You're All I Have, Take Back the City (not my fave song on the album, but was so fun live!) and the LIGHTNING STRIKE was absolutely unbelievable. GAH. SO, SO GOOD!!

Got only a couple of photos and 1 really short vid of Gary hopping off the stage to sing to someone right near me. After the show, the band didn't hang around outside, but we saw Paul and Jonny in a bar across the street from the venue and I got to thank Paul for the incredible show. He was very sweet and humble. :wacky:

Anyway, here are my pics:

Snow Patrol- Austin

I didn't get any pics of Nathan because every time I tried, he'd step into an area where he was completely drowned out by the light. then my camera died. :(

Gald you had a great time. So did Gary remember where he was that night? Paul at the bar, woman, you should have ditched the hubby. :whip:

Anna!

I had a fantastic time and now I'm shooting myself for not trying to get tix to Houston or Dallas. Aw, well.. I can't follow every band I love around! ;)

The crowd was OK... I was right in front, so I couldn't really see much of it, but most of the people immediately surrounding me were pretty much just standing there. There were pockets of people rocking out, but not a ton, from what I could tell. I actually ended up meeting two women from the SP forum at the show because my friend came down with the flu! It was fun to be there with them, since they're such big fans.

:shame: my hubby wasn't even with me! I totally chickened out.. though I did get an INCREDIBLE smile from Paul during the show! :wacky: Oh, and yes, Gary did remember where he was last night! :P

oooh...you need to hurry then. cos the deadline's supposed to be 10 Oct...just 2 days away (based on my timezone). i almost forgot about it myself.

what they've got so far's looking good tho, i have to say. :D

have you guys heard the 1 min clips of the new songs?

garys voice sounds lovely <3

Thanks for those! I hadn't heard them.

Give Me Strength sounds awesome!!

:D

my, I do so love Gary's voice!

both sound great... thanks so much for posting, Naomi (I'm Jen :nice: )

Gary Lightbody is the epitome of classiness.

Thank you so much for finding them! :nice: I hadn't exspected the two other songs to get on YouTube as a preview so soon. Isn't it still a month to go until the album is release?

Is it the sound or does Gary's voice sound in Give Me Strength more scratchy?

Going from the title I would have imagined Dark Roman Wine to be the better song but I changed my mind. Can't wait for the full versions!

(And I'm sure, their next album will beat Eyes Open as my number one Snow Patrol album. :smug:)

ooooh....sounding good!!! :D

saw this pic online & thought it looks funnily adorable!

Oh yeah, it's from a series of shots. So funny! They are from the tour book - or at least they are in it because this photo doesn't see to be a scan. ;)

Eyes Open is my favorite album (so far!), too. I love them all, really, but I love EVERY song on Eyes Open.

How about everyone else? (sorry, I'm sure that's been covered before, but humor me so I don't have to read back through pages of posts! :P)

Final Straw for me!!!

i love Grazed Knees, How To Be Dead, Run & Chocolate SO much i desperately wanted to be able to play these songs on the acoustic guitar...i've only managed a wee bit of Grazed Knees so far. but that's only because i'm utter shiet at it in the 1st place. :dozey:

Eyes Open is definetely my favourite so far but I love all the songs from Final Straw and A Hundred Million Suns (except of Crack The Shutters :P) as well. :nice: And their b-sides and other songs ...

Okay, but Eyes Open just has a special meaning to me and I discovered them through it. Honestly, I can't wait for their sixth LP (not counting Up To Now)!

And the live CD/DVD we will get from the Reworked Tour. :D

heh...i'm the opposite of you then. i just only recently got a physical copy of Eyes Open & hence listened to every track on it.

but i'd say Final Straw is the one that got me hooked. especially the emotional tone in Gary's singing for Run...& it's meaning is kinda personal for me too.

then Final Straw led to Song For Polarbears, which lead to A Hundred Million Suns (i seem to be jumping all over the place with their discography!)...& it's a toss up between Up To Now or When It's All Over We Still Have to Clear Up as the next to end up in my Snow Patrol CD collection. cos the CD shop near my hall has 1 copy of When It's All Over on their shelves...'cept i'm pretty darn broke this month already. :uhoh:

awww... people seem to hate Crack the Shutters... I love it! Eyes Open was also how I started with SP. But I agree, each album is full of incredible songs. And judging from the short samples we've been given, their new stuff will be just as good, if not better!

@kimgan, that's so cool that you're learning to play those songs! I wish I could play guitar. I can rock Guitar Hero (and Take Back the City on RockBand!) but I've never tried an actual real guitar :P For me, Gary playing solo for the beginning of Run was one of the highlights of gig I saw Tuesday!

My number one SP album is Final Straw! I love all songs so much, Run is my fav song of all time. I found out about them though FS. And it has a special meaning in my life.

Also just few weeks ago I found out how much I love Spitting games. Love the lyrics soooo much.

& i salute you for being able to rock Guitar Hero & Rock Band!

cos i find it harder to play a "guitar" on those games than a real one. ;)

gotta love a line like "I broke into your house last night...& left a note on your bedside..." :D

The new stuff will be better, I'm almost certain of that!

I don't dislike Crack The Shutters because of its music or something. It actually is a good song. But I don't like the way Gary wrote the lyrics. I find it too physical and I don't like that.

Wouldn't talk about 'hate' in the case of Crach The Shutters and me. ;)

Sometimes I feel like a worse fan because I love Eyes Open the most and got into Snow Patrol through it. Basiclly through Chasing Cars on Grey's Anatomy. So it feels like I'm the mainstream Snow Patrol fan and don't know anything about them apart from Eyes Open (which isn't true). (But I feel the same way with Coldplay and X&Y. :\)

Fair enough about Crack the Shutters! ;)

But as far as feeling like a worse fan, I think that's rubbish. Just because you came a little later to the party (and I definitely did, too!) doesn't make you/us less of a fan. You know A LOT about SP, from what I've seen. A mainstream or casual fan, I think, would only know their singles. You sound like a true fan to me! :D

I'm still trying to get more into them... for example, I don't have any of their pre-Final Straw albums. That'll be my next task!

I don't know if any of you are on the SP forum (actually, kimgan, I've seen you there, I think!), but Gary just posted a short little note on there yesterday. It's under the SP General forum... thread title is something like "The Goose is Getting Fat" :D

btw, I feel bad not knowing your names, guys. I'm Jen. :nice:

And friggin' love that line! And that song! Damn that whole album is just epic!:D

My other faves from that album include Run, How To Be Dead, Chocolate and Somewhere A Clock Is Ticking.

Well, I do my very best. ;) After meeting them I kind of feel like it's stupid to go to their gigs and try to meet them afterwards and not knowing them. There was an embarassing scene with Jonny. (All in all I made a total fool of myself infront of each one of them :laugh4:)

And I'm totally obsessed with them and their music. Don't know. Ilione turned me into that SP-addict. :D

Thanks for making me feel better about the fan thing. :nice:

I'm Bianca. :) Nice to meet you.
