  • Finally a new album from the band! Haven't heard the full album yet, just the 3 pre-released songs and they're great.

 thanks! And I completely agree with you and lndnsky- Gary writes some awesome lyrics!

Fair enough about Crack the Shutters! ;)

But as far as feeling like a worse fan, I think that's rubbish. Just because you came a little later to the party (and I definitely did, too!) doesn't make you/us less of a fan. You know A LOT about SP, from what I've seen. A mainstream or casual fan, I think, would only know their singles. You sound like a true fan to me! :D

I'm still trying to get more into them... for example, I don't have any of their pre-Final Straw albums. That'll be my next task!

I don't know if any of you are on the SP forum (actually, kimgan, I've seen you there, I think!), but Gary just posted a short little note on there yesterday. It's under the SP General forum... thread title is something like "The Goose is Getting Fat" :D

btw, I feel bad not knowing your names, guys. I'm Jen. :nice:

yup, i'm on the SP forum too. haha but i didn't know about the post by Gary! must check that out now for sure! & i'm Kimmi. nice to meet you, Jen. :D

as for joining the party late & what type of fan that makes you, i may have mentioned Final Straw as the one that got me into Snow Patrol, but i should add that i didn't actually get Final Straw until last year. before that i only really knew Chasing Cars cos it was on the radio a lot & Run was from a fan made Doctor Who video on YouTube. & then 1 day i heard Take Back The City & loved it.

i've no idea why to this day, but i was drawn to Final Straw over Eyes Open when i was browsing thru CDs in a shop one fine day. :P

I also got into the band with Eyes Open, even though "Run" was actually the song that piqued my interest in Snow Patrol. I recall hearing "Chasing Cars" quite a few times on the radio and not really caring for it. I like it a bit more now, but it's one of my least favorites on the album.

"Crack the Shutters" seems like a song that should have been more popular than it was. My local radio station continues to play it frequently (along with - oddly enough - "Shut Your Eyes"), but I guess AHMS didn't have the mainstream appeal that Eyes Open did.

And even though I'm registered on snowpatrol.com, I don't really visit the forum. Maybe seeing them live will change that. After all, I didn't join Coldplaying until after seeing Coldplay live...

The thing with the forum of snowpatrol.com and me is, that I find it a bit frustration hearing all the people complain about some little acoustic gigs and other appereances a bit too often. Sometimes some people there act like they don't really like Snow Patrol. Maybe I'm just reading too less there but ... anyway.

My radio stations LOVE Crack The Shutters and play it more often than Chasing Cars (and they play it like every day).

Great to have you here, Jo! We are not that many Patrolers, so you'll get used to us pretty quick. ;)

Hello Bernard! :) (Dare you make a silly joke about my name and your nick! :P)

Poor Ilione, once she goes away for a week the Snow Patrol thread is busy like never before. We'll keep that, won't we? At least until tomorrow then she'll be back. :nice: (Man, can't wait!)

Edit: God, Jo, you JUST DID IT! :veryangry: (Kidding. ;))

Lol Bernard & Bianca! that's cute :nice:

... and that ^^ is why finding this out got the reaction it did. :)

If there are some ones left by Nov 23rd (my birthday), then I will go for it. I can't really justify the price at the moment.

Hi everyone! :P

I've never really been on this side of the forum (The World Of Music) so I'm only now finding this thread :uhoh: Just wanted to stop by and tell you that I'm here now so you don't wonder who the hell I am  I'm Johku by the way :P (I don't think I know very many of you)

To give you a bit of background, I got into Snow Patrol around Eyes Open too, so at like 2006. that was the year when I actually properly started to listen to music (good stuff atelast) and also Coldplay ;) favourite album would be Final straw and songs..okay too many, but to mention a few: Chocolate, Set The Fire To The Third Bar, Ways&Means and The Planets Bend Between Us (and ofc Run) etc..

gosh this sounds so official, the message wasn't supposed to turn out like this  oh well here we go anyways :P

And I've never seen them live (I'm really praying that they'll support U2 in august when I'll see them tho it's not very likely is it :D) and I'd probably die if I did so.. :D (like I died at my coldplay concerts too )

yay! another fan of the Final Straw album & The Planets Bend Between Us song!

& i've never seen them live either...they've never toured anywhere near where i'm from. but November in Bristol will be my 1st time. :D

'tis fate that just when i was thinking i'd never get to see them live, they announced the Winter Reworked Tour & the very city i am studying in now is 1 of their stops on the tour!!!

thanks Bianca, I'm really happy to be here :nice:

We better keep this thread alive then! ;) Any of you planning on getting the collection box? I don't know if I'll have money for it (a lot to buy right now) and it's killing me! :uhoh: (I'm just listening to Take Back The City and 'and it's killing me' came exactly when I was writing it too :D)

i pre-ordered mine already...was hoping i was in the 1st 100 (i think that was the range set) to get a signed one. but i was at least 2 days slow with my order (i just simply don't have the luck for this sort of things anyway). & i am now very broke this month cos i've gone & spent £100+ in total on Snow Patrol for Nov. :uhoh:

i'm still looking forward to the box set! including my 1st ever vinyl records too! :D

...now all i need is to find a proper vinyl record player. cos my dad just told me he threw his old one away a long time ago since it wasn't working anymore. :\

The SP forum is definitely a lot different from coldplaying. It doesn't feel as easy to just jump into to me, but most of the people I've chatted with there seem really nice. And Michael, did your friend bail on you after all? Will you have someone to go to the show with? I actually met up with a couple of girls from the SP forum who happened to be in town for the show. They were able to line up starting at 1 pm, and they saved me a spot and we ended up with front row center!

EDIT: Oh, and Kimmi- I  The Planets Bend Between Us!

gah. I'm soo jealous of you guys who have radio stations who actually play SP (or even Coldplay, for that matter). There are some great radio stations here, but there are definite gaps. No station that I know of advertised the SP concert and the ONLY SP song I EVER hear on the radio is Chasing Cars.

thanks Bianca, I'm really happy to be here :nice:

Hi Johku! :nice: Welcome to the SP thread!

I'll be getting something, just not sure about the collection set yet. In fact, if I recall correctly, I THINK I heard that it's not going to be available for purchase in the US because the band's management didn't think it would sell here. :(

Yeah she did, but I found another friend to go with about an hour later! So it all worked out, even though that was a very disappointing hour. :P

Unfortunately, we won't be able to start lining up until shortly before gates open since neither of us get out of class until 4:00, and we're over an hour from the venue and we plan on eating beforehand. Hopefully we can still get a good spot.

Well, I won't get the box set for I don't think they'll sell it in any stores. Or at least not in Germany (who the hell cares about Germany anyway? :(). So I will buy the CD + DVD set which is only the double CD and the DVD I guess. Don't know what to do with vinyls anyway. I have some from Coldplay and don't have player, so it's kind of pointless for me. :P

EDIT: Oh, and Kimmi- I  The Planets Bend Between Us!

yay! another one! :D

i do hope they play it on the Reworked Tour...assuming the whole concept of the tour is for a more stripped down acoustic set, then i'd think The Planets Bend Between Us is quite suited to it.

btw, if you want to try your hand at playing a guitar, The Planets Bend Between Us is pretty easy to start with...cos the only tab i've found for it is basically just 3 notes over & over & over (tho i'm quite sure that's not quite how Nathan/Gary play it).

same here! back in Malaysia, the radio stations all barely ever play any British bands anymore. back in the late 80s-90s, that was like the heydays of U2, Def Leppard followed by Britpop bands like Blur & Oasis & Pulp. but now the airwaves are either dominated by American bands or the R&B, hip hop types or teenybopper boy/girl bands. i don't mind the American rock bands, but the rest aren't really my cup of tea to want to listen to them on a daily basis. :(

As far as I know the Reworked Tour will be anything but stripped down. Gary said in some interviews they ask different musicians in each city to join them on stage and they have a little orchestra with them. And a harp. He kind of often talks about that harp and how they will include it into the set.

i'm actually kinda confused (in a good way) about how exactly the Reworked Tour's going to turn out. obviously it's not a full on rock concert, from the looks of it. but then a little orchestra's gonna make it not quite a small acoustic set either.

I'm still trying to get the money from somewhere, but I think it comes too quickly now, I don't think they'll sell them for long after they go on sale (and the pre-ordered boxes are sent).. :( but we'll see

i think the standard CD/DVD sets should be more readily available in stores or online. just that the pricier box set is only available on the SP website on pre-order. but given that it's now pretty confirmed that the postal strikes are not quite over & a walkout looks real likely soon, i think my order's gonna end up massively delayed in the mail. :(

but, anyway, i do like the box presentation on the website...nice & simple. :)

product1_256.jpg

Coldplay does :uhoh: and many others! everyone goes there for concerts :P No one cares about Finland I'd say more :(

try Malaysia...hardly any international band/artists from US, UK ever go there & when bands/artists actually want to perform there, there's all kinds of dressing or performance restrictions & nonsense protests by overly conservative religious groups against them having a show! :(

Man, I wished I could go to see them in November/December. :( But Ilione goes and she needs to take LOTS of photos for me. :smug: Maybe that'll help at least a bit. And Gary said there might by a live DVD from the Reworked Tour, so I'm not too sad.

@ Bernard

Aw, just read your signature. So nice of you!

@Johku- Yes, I could order it from a UK/European site, but I think I'm with Bianca, I don't really need the vinyl (cool to have, but I'd never get to use them) so I'll probably just get the CD + DVD set. AND, I'll probably just have my hubby buy it for me for xmas! :D

Hi everyone. :nice:

I really like the Just say yes ... is there a new album coming?!

And I've got a question for the true fans:

I only have Eyes Open and A hundred million suns ... I know the boys have more albums, any recommendations which I should get next?

Hi Imke! :nice:

Just Say Yes is going to be on a best of that's coming out next month, along with 2 other new songs (there are samples of them a page or two back).

Eyes Open and AHMS are awesome! Now you must get Final Straw! Has the incredible songs How To Be Dead, Chocolate and RUN! They're all great, really!

Thanks, Jen.

I think I'm really getting Final Straw ... It's only 4,95€ at Amazon. :stunned:

Yay! you definitely should! I forgot to mention that the best of is called Up to Now. I think you can pre-order it now, too... ;)

AHMS is only 4,99 at a big music store here and I always get nearly a heart attack seeing this. :dead: (I feel like that seeing X&Y for that priece as well - how can they sell that great albums for nothing?! At least they get more fans then ...).

You should definetely get Final Straw next. But don't forget about their early albums!

And Just Say Yes ist just genius. :nice:
