man the I Am An AStronaut song is the cutest thing alive.

unfortunately serious news

hello all,

well, it seems our run of bad luck healthwise continues. this time pablo has fallen foul of it. paul has wrecked his left arm and shoulder and has been advised by his doctor to take four weeks off. this means we have to pull out of the europe two tour of france we our currently in the middle of. so we will not be playing the four further shows in france and the two shows at the end of the month in germany. paul is gutted and, the trooper that he is, was keen not to cancel anything. however sense must prevail. his injury is serious and if not dealt with now could land him in very dangerous territory in the future. bless him though he feels terrible about it but we'd rather he not lose the use of his arm. he's a great hugger and he can play the bass a bit too (he can play any instrument you give him, talented git:)) so we don't want to see him hurt himself more. apologies to those of you who have tickets to see us in france and germany i hope it's not too last minute for anyone who was travelling from distance to see us. this was all rather sudden and we had to dash over to london to get him seen by a specialist to attempt to be fit to play this evening. alas those efforts failed but we did everything we could to keep the tour going now we must do everything possible to get paul well again.

the rest of the guys are well and after paul is back to 100% we'll be back in action. we will be fit and healthy for the uk and ireland tour in nov/dec so panic not if ye be panicking.

gary (actually healthy for once) lightbody. aged ahem....

from the SP board. :( Poor Pablo.

Hi, I'm gonna see snow patrol on sunday but I don't really know them... Are they good in live (even if you don't know the songs!)?

They are incredible live. But I guess you didnt see my post above.....sorry.:(

omg, poor paul!!!!! :( it was his birthday recently too!

i hope hes ok. its been a bad health year for snow patrol.

The same thing happened to the drummer of Maroon 5. :c But Paul is not a drummer, of course... so let's hope he gets better. :D

As for "Are they good live?" YES. THEY ARE AMAZING. Their live show turned me into a fan, and as I keep saying, I was really there for the opening band (because Augustana is one of my favorite bands!) but Snow Patrol was brilliant! I hope you get a chance to see them, even if they had to cancel their tour. :c

I'm not gonna see them, they cancel the gig....

The good thing is that there was other bands playing with them and I'll be able to see those other bands for free! (even if those bands sucks!)

Well, I'm sad not to be able to see them...

Oy poor pablo!!! man what a year this guys have had! I mean Garys run of throat problems now pablo!!!! Hopefully he gets better soon so he can be back to hugging and playing once again!!!!!

Has the non-album (aka B-sides) tracks for the next single (Set fire to the third bar) been announced yet?

I haven't heard anything yet on the b-sides, but I can't wait to find out. The cover is so gorgeous. snow_fire.jpg

I am definitely ordering the single and getting it framed. All the singles have such beautiful photography/artwork. :D

Here's the new music video for Set Fire To The Third Bar that was uploaded on youtube:

oooh nice video!:nice: to bad you dont see the whole band

that video was awesome!!! lovin it!!! Now Gary is exremetly attractive but in that video he looks hott!!!! ANd Martha looks really pretty.Oy, but yeah to bad the rest of the guys arent in it!

  • 2 weeks later...

Snow Patrol - Set The Fire To The Third Bar (Polydor)

snow-patrol-6.jpg

Snow Patrol may be the new Coldplay, but are we any less sick of the latter than we were two years ago? The truism that familiarity breeds contempt does not make exceptions, even for good music.

Make no mistake about it. While Set The Fire To The Third Bar is formulaic through and through, it is a beautiful track. In true Snow Patrol form (the occasional misstep discounted), the single is artful in its simplicity and, if one is in the right mood, vividly evocative. The unfussy melody is bolstered by gentle strings and buzzing keyboards. Gary Lightbody delivers a characteristically raw vocal performance without sounding sappy or indulgent. Lightbody's vocals are perfectly complemented by Canadian songstress Martha Wainwright, whose arrestingly haunting voice is put to good use. Once the track begins to plateau, it reaches a timely conclusion with little forewarning.

While the track itself is immune from censure if it's your cup of tea, the band's worrying overexposure leads this reviewer to believe that in two months time, this rave review may need to be retracted. If Run and Chasing Cars are any indication, it won't be long before Set The Fire To The Third Bar is heard in the background of every single TV show, commercial and dramatic montage. Even great tracks overstay their welcome if shoved into every scene which evokes emotion, a phenomenon familiar to most MTV viewers.

Mainstream attention is not necessarily a bad thing, but once overexposure befalls a band, the damage can rarely be undone. While Snow Patrol may have reached the point of no return, one can only hope that Ms. Wainwright will not be taken for the ride.
