first time live

Featured Replies

I read an interesting post over on the Coldplay board with regards to their live performances being too planned and pre-fabricated.

While I thought this was a bit harsh due to the fact that they one have two albums and are still (although its easy to forget) a young band.

Having said that it did get me thinking that perhaps they should be a little more impromptu in their gigs and mix in a few old b-sides although they already adlib covers which is great :)

Since I'll be seeing them for the first time in March (as a headliner), I can't wait to see whether the gig does feel very measured or more organic.

how do you guys feel about it?

Well, since SOME of us have to wait till April to see them for the first time, I for one have no comment to make just yet! :?

I wait with interest to see how you find it, Simon. :-D

i think they are brill live it is an added if they throw in some surprises but thats not what a concerts about, its about how the sound and performance is and when coldplay get on stage and do it its brilliant!!! :D in my opinion it doesnt matter vif they are just doing a routine coz they pull it off so well!! :)

Well, I just can't WAIT!!!!!! :D I wanna join the 'we've seen 'em live' gang! :P

I don't know about 'contrived'...it's all contrived to a certain degree and very hard to maitain freshness etc in something you do over and over again....I think they're fuckin' fantastic live full of heart and can hardly wait 'til April ;)

Very well said!!! I think that Chris puts so much energy and effort and emotion into the show that it just makes it seem pretty natural to them. :D

One's first time is always special :D

i might be able to go afterall honeybun :)

Have to admit - never tried getting to the front. Not like me at all - being good and staying where I'm put. :? But I watch all these crowd surfers and I think Woh, no way! I'm not going up there! I mean - those brutes of bouncers? Inhuman or what? :-x Mad boys

if im not in the front ill just slap the other hehe or have this excuse my mates are there and they i got them beer and i need to get back there lol when im holding to beers and it usually works :D

First time I saw Coldplay perform AROBTTH stuff I hadn't heard much of it so it was absolutely fantastic, it was kind of a pre-Glastonbury rehearsal thing so it didn't seem polished at all. Glastonbury was erm... :D And then in Manchester in October, I suppose they were very used to the setlist etc so it naturally appeared to be v. polished and rehearsed, but still great. And if they're doing new stuff in the upcoming gigs then that will shake it up a bit I suppose, but I'm not sure if impromptu B-sides wouldn't leave half a stadium audience more than a little confused, which is a shame. :?

And apart from that, yey! for Ian McCulloch supporting :D [/i]

Oooh, I'm hopping with excitement *can't wait till April* I'll just wriggle through ppls legs he he! ;)

lol  ;)

i just thought they were great! I usually go up to the front and push other ppl when it is someone im dying to see.

I dont think your can help getting rehersed, they are playing the same stuff night after night in 8 months, so of course it is gonna be a little bit simular. And Chris DOES REALLY put a lot of effort in to it. They played a tiny bit of Aquas barbiegirl to the concert i went to - that was hilarious :D

ah that would have been funny to see. it is halarious though 8)

yeS, but unfortunately it was only a couple of lines where chris was the girl (really high voice i'd might add) and johnny interupted with a deep, masculine voice; 'come on barbie, let's go party'. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHA - FUNNY JOHNNY!!! (and the couple thing is there, great man...)
