but i get to use his nice bass

its like a fender jazz bass i think

What is a band-off? Is that like a "Battle of the bands" type of thing?

yeah

except its my band (which like we're generally the popular kids)

and its a punk band (that is ironically very rich)

but we sound nothing like punk so it should be interesting

Oh okay, well good luck! My brother plays in heaps of those battle of the band things. Should be fun. :nice:

hahaha m he's probably having cyber with some random dude again ..thom, ur a bitch! :idea2:

hey, is there anywhere online to hear your band, i didn't know you were in one!

I am moving to London in the next few months to do my bands full time and work..decided not to go to Uni, because i'm very determined (and maybe a little stupid)

nah i wish

we have bad equipment and we're saving up for a PA system

so like an 8 track recorder is the last thing on our list

it's so expensive to be in a band!

yeah you're right it is...but, luckily, we've been buying bits and pieces for a while, and one of the people i'm in the band with, is my brother. and my dad plays the guitar and uses equipment, which is ours really he says.

But, we're recording a demo first this summer before i move to London.

Are you trying to do it seriously!... getting signed, or for fun?

Anyone else in a band??

i take it seriously

but i dont think we practice enough

we only practice for maybe 3 or 4 days a week and like 2 hours every time.

but i'd like to make a living off being a band

like get money for shows and stuff

i just dont know where to start...

do you have any tips?

like should we get a PA system or an 8 track recorder?

better amps? or better guitars?

the list goes on

that's so cool that you're in a band. i'm always so impressed by people who make music hahaha. i wish i were in a band. maybe i should just go solo

Man, practicing three days/week is good. Here we only jam on saturdays for about 4 hours. If you wanna take the band thing seriously i think the first thing you should do is practice like crazy with your band mates and then go to a studio (cos they have all the good instruments and equipment there) and see if you guys can record something there. Here it isnt expensive to go to a studio. its like U$25/hour. and after you guys record like 3 or 4 songs, send it to a record label.

I think recording your own demo is a great first step, but i dunno. If all you want is good equipment to jam with your pals, i think the first thing you guys should get are good amps. cos i remember the old days when i used to practice with my old band and i had this crappy bass amp and i couldnt hear what i was playing. it sucked.

man thom

you bum i cant believe you signed off

now i feel gay for starting this thread

Well, as long as they don't hurt Thom's feelings I'm ok with the perv comments haha. Ya, I wonder where he is though...I miss our crazy talks

haha Ah, i'm sorry. my stupid internet server went off yesterday 10 minutes after i started posting, and i couldnt get online again. brazilian internet system is so crappy, i tell you.

Man, good luck. I know how you feel, i didnt want to go to uni either, and i probably wouldnt go if i had a good band and they all wanted to take music seriously.

hello there Mr Talk :D

Cheers!..well, two of my band mates are at Uni in London, doing music, so i have to be there too if we're to do anything.

Yeh, i think practicing with your band is the main thing, but you've got to be Practicing GOOD songs. Make sure you're making Good music, and then play it well, and people will be interested. The reason we're not playing gigs, is because we've not practiced the songs we've wrote, because we're far apart. So, w're practicing all over the summer for 3 months, and then going to London to gig. I'm sure when we have some gigs i'll be pushing it down peoples throats :D and be putting links to my site, hopefully people will visit and like us

yeyks....David....you can do it!.... ;)

so im getting a summer job and ill have about 5-700 dollars at the end of the summer...

if you were in my position, david, would you get a better amp or a better bass? or just go into the studio?

for sure we need a PA system and im just going to take all the $$ out of my bank account to pay for my portion of it.... its impossible to make lyrics with out a system!

i think its a bit more than 25$ an hour for studio time here. i thought it was like $200. my friend recorded in california and that's how much it was. but im not sure

hmm..well, I suppose it's different for every band, but, i would look locally for an amp...probably just buy a second hand one, coz it doesn't matter at all, aslong as it sounds good. I used ebay for mics, and i still use them today, and saved myself loads of money...bought a 16 track on ebay and use it for my recordings.

i just go to good/well known, websites that review equipment, and then look for it on ebay over a period of time. although, if i find out that YOU are outbidding me at 4:00 in the morning....i will be forced to hunt you down :sneaky:  :P

i dunno really..depends what your band wants to do...record, or play live :)

We're going to record, and then play live. But different for each band i think!

From my experiences, most bands shouldn't really bother with recording anything until you've been together for awhile, because whenever I've been in a band who started recording right away (or listened to a friend's who was in the same situation), it was a waste of time either because the band didn't end up lasting, or it sounded like crap because we weren't used to playing with each other and hadn't been together long enough to write any really good songs anyway.
