not, here in Spain we use two names as surname:

fist one is my dad surname

second one is my mum surname.

 

here when people marry, the woman don't take her husband surname as her surname, they just will refer to her as 'señora de *husband surname*'=miss, wife of mister *surname*.

 

in Portugal is like in England so that's why they skip my real surname in many documents here, they must think that is my second name or something, although here really use the mother surname i think :thinking: that is quite strange for me.

 

we had talked about it on the BBQ some days ago and all other erasmus found that so weird, them are used to have just one surname.

sometimes i would like to have more names than just one :( but my dad don't like it :\

 

although my grandma told me that at the begining of last century people used to have several christian names due to this:

 

first name was the kid name (that usually used to be a family name (grandad, dad..)

second name was the godmother kid name

third name was the godfather kid name

forth name was the saint of the day

 

i don't like how mine would had been it would had been something like that:

 

When i was younger and due that some bad class mates made jokes about my name i wanted to changed it legally once i were an adult, i thought to changed it to something like that: Sofia Providencia
