If they used the vocal track from the record it would be way to obvious. It already is obvious. I can't imagine they will do this for very long because it will become very apparent, very quick in the digital age of smartphones and social media. They might have gotten away with this 10 years ago but not now. It's a brazen move on their part considering the hugely inflated cost of tickets. I know it's only on one song (so far) but it definitely sets a bad precedent.

While I frown on the use of backing tracks, I understand why it's sometimes a necessity for Coldplay as they're not physically able to play all the elements of some of their songs in real time. No one is complaining about that. I would like to see this "proof" that Jonny and Guy are lipsyncing please. It's not "10 seconds of Clocks" it's the whole song.

I think it would be more effort to convince his bandmates/management and then risk having your reputation among fans ruined rather than just singing the song.

I disagree it's their farewell tour. Bands tend to milk that tag line and Coldplay haven't even suggested anything like that in the slightest. Anywho, Bands who do a "Farewell Tour" tend to be back doing another tour within 5 years :laugh4:

I really don't want to believe this. Coldplay are such an amazing live band that this seems completely counter-intuitive. Chris must know in the age of camera phones and social media that this will obviously be picked up on. Either he A) Doesn't care (which doesn't seem like Chris at all to be honest) or B) Has some serious vocal issue. Of course this is Coldplaying.com so there will be posters who will deny until the cows come home but the evidence is very damning. All you have to do is listen for variation on certain word pronounciations from video to video (You find there is none) or sync (No pun intended) the videos together and play them at the same time. It begs the question what other songs is he also lip-syncing? Surely if he can't hit the notes on Clocks there's not a hope in hell he can hit the notes in Fix You? I'll have to do some more investigating but if he's lip-syncing Clocks to protect his voice one minute and jumping up and down belting HFTW the next that shows a certain attitiude to the older music........

Last straw for me I think.

I think it's fantastic that people are requesting older, non singles. Listening to the recent performance of AROBTTH warmed my heart. Chris is finally acknowledging they have a discography before Mylo Xyloto. Jonny's guitar it's just sublime and hearing the crowd sing it back, it actually brought a tear to my eye. Chris must be battling with a serious sense of cognitive dissonance playing these songs. How can you reconcile the beauty of an intimate song like AROBTTH connecting with the audience one minute then jumping up and down to superficial pop with a Beyonce backing track the next? It just makes no sense. I hope playing all these songs for the first time in 10-12 years enacts a change in Chris... We can only hope.

As Prospekt46 points out it's not really a concept album, not in the way The Wall by Pink Floyd is a concept album.

I understand that, but if you don't like the dancey stuff it puts you at a loss. I have no problem conceding that a lot of Oldplayer feelings come from bitterness, but that's understandable. It was the NME readers who built them up, followed them, bought their albums. Essentially made them who they are and acted as apologists for them when they were worthy of defending. Betrayal is too strong a word but certainly there is a sense that Coldplay have taken the soup. It's just disappointing to see this genius group who produced albums like AROBTTH to devolve into what they are today. Everything is so incredibly safe with them nowadays. They've seem to completely lost the identity they once had and replaced it with this psuedo-boyband image. You can imagine what that looks like to the fans of the earlier work who haven't completely renounced and abandoned them. The music is so different now, I can understand them doing the pop thing for one album but it has gone on far too long.

I also find it baffling how someone can praise something without seeing it. I'm not tearing the video apart which is probably not even produced yet. Just the concept, which I have seen. Anyway, Coldplay have a track record of scrapping music videos so we'll hold our breath until something concrete comes out.
