LP8 Thread - Everyday Life
I think a Coldplay album produced by Noel Gallagher would be a dream of mine come true. I’m reluctantly hoping on the hype train once again, since MX I’ve been waiting for an Oldplay/Alternative album. I’m cautiously optimistic that even if it’s not classic Coldplay sounding, LP 8 will deliver a lot more than the last two releases.

So what’s everyone expecting more of the same in the Mylo Xyloto lineage or something that goes back to their roots? Something new entirely?

To be honest I like Radiohead but I was never able to relate to them in the same level as Coldplay. Radiohead’s stuff seems maninly a comment on society whereas Coldplay is a lot more introspective. OK Computer remains a classic though.

Random Coldplay thoughts...
To me this is Coldplay at their pinnacle.. when they knew exactly who they were be what they represented. It saddens me there’ll probably never be a Coldplay album as pure as X&Y again

Tim Bergling, a.k.a. Avicii, Dead at 28
Didn’t like his music but seemed like a really nice guy.. died way too young. And surely Levels is one of the most iconic songs of the decade.

Which Coldplay Songs do you think best match up together as a pair/sound similar?
I think Violet Hill and Politik strike a similar chord.

Worst Coldplay Songs Ever!
The entirety of AHFOD.

This is interesting.
2 years later and the tour finished this still bugs me a bit.

No. That is all.

It would be interesting to see them do something like U2 did with Songs of Innocence/Experience. Essentially 2 separate albums making one complete work. Go back to their roots with the first then a couple of years later do something more electronic.. a duology of sorts. Especially considering in each era some great material gets relegated to b sides and ‘bonus tracks’

When a b side from before your first album is better than your last 3 albums combined.

It happens more often than you think, Metallica did it for their fifth album and it went on to become their most successful effort. But agree on the sentiment, call it anything once it's decent!

LP8 Thread - Everyday Life
I remember how fun and simultaneously frustrating following the LP7 thread was... funny times. I said it two years ago and I'll say it again now; I'd love an Oldplay album. Back then I really wanted a darker album with a rock edge and an experimental vibe. A perfect marriage between LP2 and LP4, but nowadays I think I'd prefer a more stripped back acoustic album like Parachutes, self titled (as their titles have been really poor since Mylo Xyloto) This would be a fantastic way to cement their identity as a band who produces the pinnacle of soft rock music and showcase them going back to their roots. Probably unlikely to happen but a man can dream!

I just pretend that Coldplay haven't existed past 2008 (minus a few glimpses of what made them great since) and I'm a much more content fan for it these days.

I think you're all mad. As some as you may know I'm one of the harshest critics of modern day Coldplay but this new tune... my God, it brought a tear to my eye. It's just perfect a dream pop, ambient mixture of Pink Floyd and The Stone Roses. This is what we've been waiting for! Guy and Johnny in full swing, Chris with echoed vocals, a bloody guitar solo and epic synth sounds. It's like all the best parts of the first three albums combined Best Coldplay song in 8 years at least. My theory of all their best material being on the EP seems to be coming true.

Coldplays major failing from Viva onwards had been their production. Compare the production on Parachutes (Where, if you have a good vinyl player it sounds like the band are in the room with you) and AHFOD, it's really night and day. I'm sure if they were produced properly there would be quite a few post Viva songs I'd like.

Who produced this new track? Johnny's guitar sounds are still really suffering, way too much reverb and that stupidly soft sound. Pop producers have a vendetta against guitar music! With that being said this is a return to form. The hook is really good and lyrics have improved massively. I predicted a while ago that this E.P would be much better than the album alas Coldplay have a criminal track recorder of relegating their best tunes to b sides and 'extra tracks' (b sides of the modern, streaming age) I honestly can't tell if this is done intentionally, bad management or the bands poor judgement of the relative quality of their latest pool of material (The only Oasis trait influencing them these days)

This is one bizarre read....

Unfortunately, this is symptomatic of Coldplay's ill-suited foray into mainstream pop music and leaving the indie scene behind. Many people are going for one song like HFTW or Paradise, maybe never even heard the early work. The people who go to Coldplay gigs now are not the people who went to see Coldplay in 2003. When you contrast bands like The Courteeners, The Blossoms, Catfish and the Bottlemen etc they have nowhere near the popular appeal or reach as Coldplay but their have such a dedicated following in the indie scene, when you go to one of their gigs it's insane. Everyone knows the words and is really into the music. I'm in my mid-20's now and don't go to as many gigs as I did when I was 18, but I always go to the likes of U2, Noel Gallagher, Arctic Monkeys etc When I go to see Coldplay up in Dublin during the summer I can guarantee I will have nothing in common with the vast majority of people there. I paid full admission for the three or four songs they'll play on C-Stage.
