The "Relate Everything Back To Coldplay Game"
Probably the best link so far in this game! Like that extra bit of science in there, I'm into that kind of stuff. :D Thumb tacks are used to hold something up on a wall, like calander or really any kind of paper. I'm pretty sure Coldplay has to use them quite a bit :D (i know, this one's lame) Hamper

What is your favourite Coldplay song today?
Absolutely love that first one! It's so good it can be listened to year round for me, not just Christmas :D By far my favorite Christmas song. Wouldn't normally expect too much from an original modern Christmas song but as always Coldplay knows what to do! :D

Yeah, sometimes it glitches out... Okay, that makes a little more sense. That may be your opinion, seeing as you like the 2 4 and 6 albums better than the 3 5 and 7 albums. I still like Mylo the best, but I do agree that it was more pop oriented and some songs might have been partially written to get on radio, even if I do like it better than Viva :D I like to think of Mylo as the more colorful counterpart to Viva, they almost link together in a way like that just as like Ghost Stories and A Head Full Of Dreams, interesting... For me, both feel extraordinary in the way they are. I wouldn't call Ghost Stories an "ambient" album, more a dark stripped down synthpop kind of deal which I really dig! Although if you're talking about the overall soundscapes, I do agree, it feels quite ambient and feels like it should be listened to on a winter night. :D Midnight is unbelievable, it sounds like something from Mylo Xyloto without the color, without the added obvious beats and having the ambient side turned wayyyyy up. What do you get? Midnight! :D I agree on AHFOD more so, there are experimental elements within the songs but overall this is the era it feels like they're most trying to get on the radio with. And hey, they kinda suceeded with HFTW. I personally don't hear it a lot on the radio, someone I know told me they heard it in a store recently but that's about it. They said that the song got kind of big. I don't doubt it seeing as it's got much more views than ASFOS already :D So yeah. Thanks for clarifying, your statement makes a little more sense now! :D Wow, I learned the beginning quite a while ago. Never got around to learning the whole thing! Don't know if I ever will, seeing as learning a song you really like takes away the magic of it for a while since you know every part of it inside out, until later when things start to settle down :D And I want Paradise to remain a favorite of mine. I'm pretty sure it still will. Just that if you overplay something or think about something too much, it'll get burnt out. Like with what happened with Viva la Vida because I loved that song so much back when I was young, I played it like 20 times a day at least. Burnt out of that, but still liked it. Simply wasn't the same after a while (now it's gotten back to that level of enjoyment though thankfully... :D) Hmm... still not too sure what you mean. What's the point of microwaving it? Is it meant to keep it warm, just like a hot water bottle I'm assuming (I don't know much about that either)? Still sounds pretty cool!

Yeah, U.F.O is a lot more "produced" I guess, Silent Lucidity feels more stripped down. So for me a mix between the two :D Even though Parachutes to me feel much lower and dense I suppose? While songs like U.F.O and the beginning of Silent Lucidity don't feel "low" or "dense" much at all. Just the production value I guess, at least for me. Glad you liked it! Heard it on the radio, that's how I got to know this wonderful song :D As for that other song, yeah that's right! More of that reaaaally old style pop sound. Probably why it doesn't bother me as much as today's pop sound (really doesn't bother me at all... it almost sounds like it takes elements from that old style sound and brings a new feeling into it... something like that, I don't know :D) As for the actual rating of your song: 7.4/10. Very, very unique, and that part where the beat comes in a little earlier then you expect is a neat addition. Not predictable, which is nice. One thing I've noticed, the guitar in the background sounds really quiet while the beat feels much louder. I like that! How it actually sounds dynamic and not ultra hyper compressed into oblivion like some songs and you can't tell what's loud and quiet, it's just only loud... It doesn't hit the "sweet spot" for me which is why the songs rating seems a little low for the praise I've been given it. It's not that I don't like these kinds of songs, I do, but there's just that "sweet spot" that needs to happen for it to be able to give me an 8 or something like that. Didn't feel like it deserved an 7.5 but did deserve a higher rating then the last song! Again these are all first impressions right, since I haven't heard the first song before, if I listened to it more of course I'd form a more solid opinion, and likely like it more. Love the transition though. It's absolutely seamless! Like it should be one song, just like Mylo Xyloto and Hurts Like Heaven, or M.M.I.X/ETIAW. But of course releasing that whole thing as a single might drive people away as the first part of the song isn't necessarily "radio friendly", even for back then I'd assume, and usually you only listen to the first minute or so of a song to see if you actually like it or not. Unlike the two other Coldplay examples, where they should be an actual part of the song (okay, definitely Hurts Like Heaven, but maybe ETIAW should have just been a radio edit (LOL I actually said "head" instead of "edit" when just casually typing right there, I know off topic but weird nonetheless :P) So yeah, that's my thought on that. See a pearl form, a diamond in the rough (I was looking for one with "ring" since the only one with "diamond" I could think of was AOAL, but that was "diamonds" so it wouldn't work, totally forgot about Up&Up till I decided to look it up as I was looking for songs with "ring" :D)

I completely agree with what you've said. I don't want to hate on AROBTTH beacuse it's still very good but really you're right about it. (That being said I'm not sure how many bands could do AROBTTH as well as Coldplay have done it :P) I believe Mylo is actually quite experimental as well. I mean, yes, very pop rock, but if you listen closely there's just so much going on that wasn't there even with the style of music at the time! A blend of elements that sounds fresh and new when combined with more mainstream type music... one of the many reasons why Mylo is my favorite album till this day. On Up With The Birds I completely agree, that is in my opinion the best track that has been written and will be written. I love how unique it sounds, there's not one song I consider to be just like it. It packs the best emotional punch out of any song I think I've ever heard, which is likely the main reason why I rate it as my favorite song ever. But the song structure is unconventional, it has ambient influences along with the second part which is more rock based, I mean it's crazy how different they sound when you think about it, how they were able to stick those two ideas together into one song... and make it sound amazing. As for AHFOD I agree with that as well! I personally am not a fan of XMTS and really it should have been left as a B-side (which Coldplay seemed to have forgotten about) but I can admit it's something new for Coldplay that they've tried. Even in the hip hop genre it's a unique track! Like that they're still stepping out of their comfort zone. AHFOD is just the poppier alternative to MX I think. Still with elements that you wouldn't normally find (I like Kaleidoscope as well, that kind of falls into the same category) but just combined with a more pop feel this time. :) EDIT: With all of these things being said it feels like ever since Viva they've been trying new things. Taking influences from ambient style music and using effects not normally found in mainstream music, and then combining those with more mainstream style music to give a kind of a blend between the two, ya know? You can still appreciate it if you're just a normal music lover but you can also appreciate the unique stuff they've tried with each track. I think Brian Eno is just what they needed, and what started that unique line of music for Coldplay... we have our rock from Oldplay and their new kind of more unique style of music today! :D

Seen that clip of Chris Martin performing Clocks. He sings so well it's unreal!! I mean I watched one live performance recently with the whole band and it was obviously very enjoyable but I mean Chris Martin it almost seemed like was all over the place at some points! He was much better in this performance... goes to show what not jumping around all over the place can do for the actual performance :wink2: Then again, their newer songs are kind of meant to be bounced around all over the place to. It's Clocks, it's an oldplay song that doesn't need him bouncing around all over the place and barely being able to catch his breath! It's truly amazing what he can do when he just remains... calm. This isn't meant to be your typical Newplay bashing post btw. Please don't take it that way!! I still love the new Coldplay concerts no matter what. Just an observation and honest thoughts! :) EDIT: One thing though we know for sure because of the minor mistakes he still makes: It isn't lip synced like most pop acts nowadays. :D Microwavable elephant?!! What?! How does that work?

===The ultimate Oldplaying Thread===S, BS, TBR, P, AROBTTH, X&Y, VLV, PM===
Interesting thoughts! I've noticed that with the release of AHFOD lots of Oldplayers started to see what MX truly had to offer (although obviously not like it more than the real Oldplay content.) Personally MX for me was the perfect example of a pop/rock album, since I tend to like that style of music from 2011/12 that kind of resembles and fits in with MX (even though MX is still quite unique in a way.) GS IMO was pretty good too,, but not as good and starting to get a little far into the pop scene, and AHFOD is still good just for me but is starting to worry me that if this pop thing goes any further things could be bad. And I mean all of you must have been soooooooo excited for GS with the additional songs that came before being really good, and then you know, you got GS which I guarantee most of you dislike here... must have been a great disappointment compared to what you were expecting. Same with AHFOD, we got really carried away and were daydreaming about really diverse influences when we saw those pics from India, and then we got AHFOD, and HFTW.... (even though I personally do like that song) And I also agree that some of their best songs are non album songs. Bloodless Revolution is amazing. Not a big fan of Animals although I completely agree with the theme of it!!!! Which is why I still can like it. The intro is really nice. HiRtC is a nice song as is HYSTW. But the non album song I really really like is Gravity. Like, why did they throw the title track on their but throw away Gravity!! And give it away to a band that completely ruined the original vibe the original song was going for!! That still makes me mad to this day. Some of my other faves from non album are Prospekt's March/Poppyfields. Things I dont understand, Proof, Moving to Mars, Gone But Not F. Cotton... I don't know if we'll ever get a B-side or unreleased song from this era. Really I actually consider Gone But Not F. Cotton to be one of them because it slightly resembles the style of music on AHFOD, just more melancholic and less poppy. It would have been even better if more songs like this were on the album. But other than that I'd really like to see an unreleased song/B-Side from this era. I mean I suppose it isn't necessarily the thing to do in pop music apparently nowadays. But I wish I was there for the Viva days where we had like 2 more albums worth of content from that era besides the album itself! And I mean, look at Radiohead. The number of songs they have non-album is absolutely insane, or at least I'm guessing, I actually don't know a lot about that though, just going off of what I know. Wish that was the case with Coldplay... oh well, quality over quantity I guess. Even though that isn't the case with AHFOD... to lots of people it's low quality, low quantity, and vice versa for Viva: high quality, high quantity. As for LP8 being an ambient album that would be so cool. I'd love to see Coldplay step outside their comfort zone once more. They don't have to write these massive pop albums all the time! :P (It would still be great to have that "signature song" from that album though that gets really big.. I don't know how they're going to pull that off with ambient music when the rest of the people who follow mainstream music is completely oblivious to that. If they actually did manage to pull it off though that would be cool and I think would restore Coldplay's genuity. And if it had an impact on mainstream music that would be even better!! But in the end, that doesn't matter if we're going to get a really really good result in the end. Let us enjoy it and let the people who actually care about finding good music find the gem! :D)

See these auto generated music videos by YouTube are awesome. And it sucks because I can't access them anymore!! It makes me mad. Going to find alternate video I can watch... EDIT: Found another video, I'm surprised, with the artist name I thought it would be much more stripped down, but nope... 7.2/10. Pretty good pop song, actually sounds a bit unique amongst all the other crap out there today. But still reminiscient of mainstream pop nonetheless! So not those "sweet spot" kind of songs, but still pretty good. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LniY0pDQGaE Mobile Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LniY0pDQGaE Funny enough, while listening to the beginning of this song I imagined it going down in the same pattern as U.F.O does, since the first two chords I think are exactly the same between both songs (well at least in U.F.O when CM starts singing, the first two are the same then)

I'm not too sure how A Rush is really "experimental" as you claim... it's obviously a very good album but I couldn't see it being totally experimental you know... And I'd say even Mylo had a fair bit of experimentation, there are a lot of elements in those songs that were never found even in the mainstream music of 2011/12! And I'd even go as far as to say AHFOD is slightly experimental, I mean take the title track even with the bells, Birds obviously, the alternative R&B elements of HFTW, etc.. No doubt it's a pop oriented album but there's definetely something a little more diverse than your completely typical pop album. Just my thoughts!
