  1. Why would you even want that song? It's going to be terrible! (Just kidding - sorry, I couldn't resist.) The title makes it sound like it'll have a catchy tune, and a fast beat. I expect it to be very different sounding from Violet Hill.
  2. Britney Spears - Toxic. :P
  3. I knew it! Your local news station ALSO thinks Violet Hill sounds like Toxic! I told you guys! (lol)
  4. Thanks Coldplay! Y'all are the best.
  5. I was totally joking about the Toxic thing. I was making fun of people comparing it to other bands and tracks which it OBVIOUSLY doesn't sound like!
  6. I disagree, I enjoy SOS. It's a completely different mood than Violet Hill, though. I love happy songs.
  7. Good points, Costello. Remember the MTV person who said that even if you don't like Violet Hill, you're still likely to enjoy the rest of the album. Haters need better perspective.
  8. Does anyone have audio of Jo Wiley talking to Jonny and Chris about the CD? I'd love to hear this.
  9. I'd be perfectly happy if Coldplay kept cranking out ROBTTH clones, but I'm in the extreme minority. If people don't like Violet Hill, that's their thing. But it shouldn't matter one iota because in another week we'll have "A Spell A Rebel Yell" to talk about. And then 10 more songs in a little over a month. It's just one song, don't freak out. :P
  10. I have a hard time understanding what makes mainstream rock popular, so I have no Earthly idea whether this will be popular with the Avril Lavigne/Nickelback/Hoobastank/Bullcrap fans. But it would be funny if it turned out to be.
  11. Agreed. I'm not VERY disappointed, though, just slightly. I hope everyone keeps in mind we've got like 9 or 13 more songs that we haven't heard yet, so this is a mere 10% max. I'm sure if you look back to the other albums you'll see there are mediocre songs that you would have been disappointed with had they released them as singles.
  12. Personally I think it's more of a Britney Spears "Toxic" ripoff, but yeah, I get ya. /sarc
  13. This is why Chris Martin is a rock star worth $50 million, married to Gwyneth Paltrow, and not a music teacher somewhere in the sticks.
  14. I'm quoting this to take up less space. I totally agree with what you said, very insightful comments. Here are my thoughts (as posted on another thread that's getting less attention): I have to say this song confirmed one thing for me: Brian Eno is a genius producer. Chris's voice, the instruments, the transitions, etc were all perfect for the band's sound. It was just as raw as what we heard on Parachutes. As for the song itself, I have to say I'm a tad underwhelmed. But it doesn't worry me at all, because I'm fully aware the other songs on the album will be totally different from each other in many ways. I think the tune is bordering on TOO simple - there isn't a hook that keeps you coming back for more, like with most Coldplay songs. It's almost like Politik minus the awesome break toward the end with the heartfelt high piano and wailing guitar. The lyrics are interesting but I'm not quite sure what they mean... personally I'm a fan of the more abstract Coldplay lyrics (which I know a lot of people hate) but whatever. Again, I hope everyone who reads this and hears the song doesn't think I'm distressed or anything. It's a good song, one that I won't skip over when listening to the final CD (unlike a few songs on X&Y, which I never listen to anymore). Just not great. And I fully expect there to be 4 or 5 classic kickass Coldplay songs to be on Viva, ones that will practically define my summer and this stage in my life!
  15. Yeah, he's fibbing. Piggybacking on Coldplay's new song. He has a myspace page with some of his stuff on it.
  16. Violet Hill = Britney Spears' "Toxic". See, I can do it too! :P
  17. It's asking me if I'd like to delete the file.

  19. "Coldplay sound like this, Coldplay sound like that!" Maybe nagging, meaningless statements of the type above are what inspired X&Y's title, lol.
  20. I want a copy for the collector's value. If the song turns out to be really killer then I'd probably keep it forever as sentimental though.
  21. Introducing Coldplay's newest member! His instrument makes a distinctively loud and fast noise, inspired by Brian Eno.
  22. Let's look at what we have: 1. A synthy, bubbly guitar intro that builds up. (check) 2. A stalking, bluesy beat (check) 3. A "curling" Jonny guitar solo. (check) 4. Amazing lyrics by Chris Martin, featuring his breathy voice (check) I think it's safe to say this song is going to be rather decent, at the very least.
  23. I bet this Japanese band is thrilled because now people will check out their ten year old CD. Royalties!
  24. Directed by Michael Moore and Steven Spielberg!
  25. Hello Jenika, I'm Jay! *shakes hand* It would be pretty cool if this forum could have a Coldplaying meetup at one of the concerts... but we're all so spread out! If I had millions of dollars on hand I'd pay for everyone plane tickets and front-seat concert tickets to the best outdoor stadium on the tour circuit. But alas, I'm just a poor college student... :( http://www.powerball.com/ Hmm....
