Every album out nowadays is just so dark and brooding, so I'm actually sort of glad for the departure. It might as well be Coldplay that does it.

Hey blackchickintheback - Reading your posts about how giddy you are is making me feel the same way, sort of. Thanks for the contagious joy. :) "I've got a fever... and the only prescription is more Coldplay."

Guy - stop smoking, we want you to live a lot longer. You don't have to do the crazy macrobiotic thing Chris does, that's overboard. Chris - Props for not saying so much insane stuff this time around. I remember last time you were talking about X&Y being a "jewel covered Eiffel tower blasting off into outer space" or something like that... It was good, but it wasn't that insanely good. Will - Keep doing your thang with those round objects and sticks or whatever. Jonny - Take up smoking. You'd look sexier that way, and you could even stick the cigarette butts in your guitar like other rockers do! Guys as a whole - Go do some more intimate acoustic versions of your new album for radio stations like you did with KCRW. I love those.

We're all going to be ready and waiting for it to start playing, and seconds before Jo Whiley loads the disk into the player, the Earth will explode because Locke didn't press the friggin button on that desert island in the South Pacific.

*Jealous* I've got so much work to do this week it's a sin.

My expectations for this album are actually quite realistic compared with what they were for X&Y. Don't get me wrong, I really look forward to hearing it... but I've heard so much great music lately other than Coldplay. I might watch the Live 2003 DVD documentary again later tonight to gear up.

I just put it into Babelfish and this came out: The record will rock the kabash, an instant classic, Violet Hill sounds a little like something Eno did for U2, Life In Technicolor seems to be instrumental only (not sure on this)... and it will save EMI's butt.

Are you kidding? It says you're 15 in your profile... if I had worn a shirt with this on it at 15, I'd have instantly been the most popular kid in school for rebelling against the establishment. It would be interesting to see how your school reacts, anyway. People are impressed with gutsy actions even if they don't agree with them.

All totalitarian governments will claim they are maximizing their citizens' freedom - the excuse they use is a kind of "freedom through discipline" argument. The argument is sort of similar to describing how musicians make beautiful music - they are "freer" to do it than someone who has never taken the time and effort (read: discipline) to learn an instrument. Benjamin Franklin once wrote that anyone who would give up liberty for safety deserves neither liberty nor safety. I think I agree with him, so I lean anarchist (although I'm not sure humanity is at a point where we can disband governments yet - but it might happen in the next 500 years). It is an interesting discussion!

Oh I can completely understand what you mean... I would never support something like the French Revolution today. I'm a red-blooded American capitalist (libertarian, actually), so I'm not a Nazi or Anarchist, either. I think we should just view this as a symbol of excitement and change, nothing more. Something makes me wonder if Coldplay and Brian Eno knew this would produce some controversy when they picked it... it is a good marketing strategy.

Does anyone else think it's funny how Chris and Gwyneth refused to even be seen in public together, yet Chris is all over Jonny every chance he gets in front of crowds of thousands? Makes you wonder... lol

True Jacek, it could be taken to mean some negative things... that's the way all political things are I guess. For some reason imagining Coldplay releasing a Nazi-themed album is sort of funny to me, though, lol. Maybe they'd go on tour with fake Hitler mustaches. It could be like The Producers and be a huge sell-out hit.
