Fopp closes down its 105 stores
Always a good thing to support these small independent shops like Tesco I think lol

Fopp closes down its 105 stores
I bought a Sony Walkman that uses a thing called an Atrac file or something and Sonicstage. For every tune you want to load up you could go away, have a cup of tea and a bun and a wee rest and come back and it still wouldn't finished! £100 it cost and the £9.99 job from Tesco's is better lol

School bans pupils from hugging!!
Proper order, hugging is the first step on the road to anarchy! Whatever next...

Car crashes into airport building
I teach at a High School up here & today is the first day of the school holidays. Worried how close to home this is. The coldblooded cynicism and disregard for human life of these people is astonishing. Just as well that they're shite at being terrorists! Fair play to the folks at the airport for nabbing them. I was in that Arrivals hall last Sunday morning... staggering.

Pearl Jam
Always respect Pearl Jam for the regard in which they hold their fans. I am Mine is one of my favourite rock records of all time and their approach to bootlegging is fantastic. More bands should take their cues from these guys.

Fopp closes down its 105 stores
Really gutted, not least because I still have vouchers for the place! Often stop into the store in Glasgow and the staff were cool, feel really sorry for them, they were always helpful when looking for awkward stuff. I blame the industry though, charging £13.99 and more for CDs and DVDs that cost pence to make, £4.99 for a poxy CD single. Then when the opportunity arose to sell tunes online they invent dozens of different file types and programs and players to confuse the hell out of everyone. 79p for an iTune is crazy, especially when you want an album's worth and especially when then you can only use them on Apple hardware. Saddened by the loss of Fopp, but not surprised really.

Prince anyone?????
If Prince was down the end of the garden I'd shut the curtains... Feel sorry for the records store Fopp though, that was always a great place to while away a few hours.

The R.E.M. Thread
We saw them at Loch Lomond in the summer and they were great, I'd seen them at Slane and Lansdowne Road previously. The Ardgillan Castle gig sounded cool on the webcast- was it on the radio in Ireland?

Have looked it up... Turns out that Flock is officially released back on the ould sod too, so I've bought them both. They have great reviews. Has anyone got the promo remixes of Flame? Not buying them, don't have a record player... Who is Tubridy?!! He looks mad!

Flame is one of the best tunes I've heard in ages. Tipped off to it by Fanning's Fab fifty. I'll be shot for this but I'm not to keen on Eve... Sounds like Radiohead singing You'll Learb by Longface Morrissette. The rest of that album is superb though. Flock not out until March though which is an arse. Somehow the brother got a copy in Ireland and he swears by it. He's off to see them at the RDS, having not bothered to go early to their Groove Armada support slot. Hoping to see them in Glasgow. What was the first album called?

Bell X1 bootlegs and some Juniper songs
That's great- had only ever heard Weatherman by Juniper, which has made it onto every CD compilation I've ever made. It was on a free Heineken CD years ago. Listening to the rest of the Juniper stuff now. Thanks for the link, much appreciated.

Glasgow 1st July 2005, a disgrace.
Hopefully Kevvy, none of the above alters the fact that Scotland is a pretty cool place to live... except for these mad flies...and the caravans

Glasgow 1st July 2005, a disgrace.
Let me start by saying that Coldplay were beautiful on Friday night. We are veteran Coldplay fans at this stage, having seen them first nearly five years ago, and it was great to see the band enjoying themselves, with a great catalogue to choose from, and Chris Martin in particular, having grown into the role of frontman, comfortable and charming throughout. But the crowd was an absolute disgrace. Some highlights from left of the soundboard: * A guy was spitting flem & gum into girls' hair. * Everyone was completely pissed, not 'drunk' or 'merry', totally fucked. * A guy pissed himself and the back of some girl's legs. * Three times we got covered in piss/beer being thrown. *The amount of pushing and aggro was ridiculous. *The amount of shit that security was taking for doing their jobs was unbelievable. *Kids kicked over the mobile urinals. To top it all the car was parked next to Ibrox, beneath two huge blocks of flats, from which residents were throwing bottles at the ground. The car park was covered in glass. Despite assurances from the staff there that the cars would be supervised, there was one guy on the gate when we returned, to look after thousands of cars. I should add that I am not a Chris de Burgh fan, I've been to plenty of gigs & festivals and seen plenty of messing about, most of which was in good craic. I don't expect there to be no pushing and shoving, I even expect to get covered in beer. But this Glasgow crowd was truly, truly fucking nasty, to the point where I didn't enjoy the gig and I was worried for my safety. Granted that the gig was in a rough part of town, but this was a Coldplay concert, not Slipknot or the Chilis. In ten days I've seen REM nearly walk off stage because of flying bottles, a scrap at U2 @ Hampden (which granted was otherwise OK) and this disaster of a gig at Bellahouston. If these things happened at a football match there'd be war! Maybe Glasgow gigs, should, like the Old Firm games, be at lunchtime, to stop the fans getting too pissed up. I'm Irish and I haven't lived in Scotland long (I'm not a Celtic fan!) & I was delighted with the line up of gigs this summer. But I'm really diappointed with the Glasgow crowds, they've been really shit, and I say that coming from a country where we like to have a drink (we're very good at it) & we enjoy a bit of mischief. Someone from Glasgow, please reply and tell me that our experiences aren't the norm and that Glasgow gigs are usually a bit less rowdy. Otherwise never, ever again. Maybe Edinburgh is better...

Coldplay promo singles
I've got a few... Are you talking about the one-track versions? I've picked them up cheaply enough, more as investments than anything, but ultimately they are just one-track cds to me. Both Clocks and The Scientist had edited versions on the promos if you are completist. The Clocks remix 12" is rare but musically shite, whereas Mince Spies is rarer again, but very cool.
