Happiness for a woman is... dinner with her husband, says survey
Romantic dinner? pah! Surely the best way of spending time with your husband is over a competitive game of Tiger Woods golf on the PS2, with a bottle of wine?

Help Oxfam America & See Coldplay! (Volunteer Discussion Thread)
Hartford, XL Center. The walls are shaking. The crew are checking the huge sound system. Both band and crew, are back in the USA. Canada behind us, until we roll into Ottawa, next time we cross the pond. A very sleepy crew left Toronto after 3 consecurive show days. We made the (slightly) bonkers border crossing back South.. (all off the buses at 4.30am, only to be sent back to our buses without checking out passports). Oxfam America volunteers will be here in an hour. All geared up and ready to ask this Connecticut crowd to join Coldplay’s support of Oxfam. It’s a crazy world that gives millions of people less than $1 each for a hard day’s work. The same world that sells bottled water for $5 at a festival.. when billions don’t have access to clean water. Something is not right. Oxfam knows that. Coldplay have shown their support for Oxfam for years. What better time to realise the power we have collectively to make a difference, than whilst having the time of your life, singing with thousands of other people, to a Coldplay song. Small actions change lives. Sign a petition. Join a movement asking for education for all. Buy Fairtrade coffee to give your coffee farmer a fair wage. Click on the ’Take Action’ page to do exactly that, right now. http://www.oxfamblogs.org/coldplay/?p=36

02-Aug-08: Hartford - Tickets, Preview, Meetups, Review/Photos [originally 03-Jul]
Chris pulled from the radio show because he was sick, and there've been no encores since then. logical guess would be no encores so he doesn't over do it, and then they don't have to pull another show

The Offical Top Gear Thread
Top Gear pair to sign new deals Top Gear presenters Richard Hammond and James May are expected to sign new contracts that will see them stay on the popular BBC Two motoring show. "We expect the contracts will be signed in the next few weeks," a spokeswoman for the programme said. Newspaper stories claimed May or Hammond could quit if they did not get more money, after fellow host Jeremy Clarkson signed a lucrative new deal. "It is actually all rubbish," May told BBC Five Live in response last month. "I'm not really sure where it's come from. I think it must be somebody making trouble. "I've never stormed off about money or contracts or any of that sort of stuff. I'm paid quite well by Top Gear, to be honest. I'm very happy and I'm pretty sure Hammond feels the same." Top Gear is one of BBC Two's most popular programmes, attracting between five and eight million viewers a week. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7538842.stm

Sheep gets stuck on roof of house Firefighters got a surprise when they were called to rescue a sheep from the roof of a house in North Yorkshire. The sheep got onto the roof after climbing onto a kennel and a shed before getting onto the low roof of an adjoining building. It then made a short leap on to the roof of a house in the village of Middlesmoor, North Yorkshire. Fire crews tried to rescue the sheep but it eventually fell from the roof and suffered a broken leg. The animal was left with a local farmer so it could be treated. Officers who took part in the rescue attempt were unavailable for comment but their colleague Paul Ferguson, a watch manager at Harrogate Fire Station, said: "It's the first time I've heard of having to rescue an animal from a roof! "It would have been a difficult situation because you can't know how the sheep is going to behave in those circumstances and obviously it took the wrong course of action. "I would imagine the officer in charge had little hope of getting a safe situation for the sheep because of its nervous behaviour." http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/north_yorkshire/7538803.stm

Canada in shock after man is decapitated on bus
Canada is coming to terms with one of the worst murders in its history as police seek to explain why a young man was decapitated by his neighbour on a Greyhound bus. The man suspected of the gruesome attack on Tim McLean, a 22-year-old fairground worker, was charged with murder today. Mr McLean was travelling home to Winnepeg when he was stabbed up to 50 times by the man sitting next to him. Vince Weiguang Li, 40, was arrested on suspicion of murder on Thursday morning after a stand-off lasting several hours. He remained in police custody today. Witnesses say they heard no conversation between Mr McLean and his attacker before a “blood curdling” scream was let out. It appears to have been a random attack as no connection has yet been made between the two men. Garnet Caton, who was sitting in the seat in front of the victim, said Mr McLean was sleeping with his headphones on when he was attacked. Mr Caton said he heard a “blood-curdling scream” and turned around to see the attacker in the seat behind him holding a large hunting knife and “continually stabbing him in the chest area.” “He must have stabbed him 50 times or 60 times,” said Mr Caton, who screamed at the driver to stop the bus. Mr Caton herded terrified passengers to the front of the bus before it pulled over and they fled screaming. A passing lorry driver stopped to see what was happening. He boarded the bus with Mr Caton and the bus driver, armed with a tyre iron and tried to apprehend the knifeman. “When we came back on the bus, he was cutting the guy’s head off and pretty much gutting him up,” said Mr Caton. Then the attacker turned and raced up the aisle towards them, and they retreated as the man began trying to slash them. The killer then tried to start up the engine to drive off but the bus driver pressed a button to disable the engine before he could get away. “While we were watching the door, he calmly walks up to the front with the head in his hand and the knife and just calmly stares at us and drops the head right in front of us,” said Mr Caton. Police arrived on the scene about 10 minutes later and a four-hour standoff ensued. The killer taunted police and walked back and forth inside the bus. At one point he held up the severed head for them to see. Bystanders retched at the sight. Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Brandon, Manitoba said the attack took place around 8:30 p.m. on an eastbound Greyhound bus on the Trans-Canada Highway about 20 kilometres west of Portage la Prairie. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/article4445363.ece
