The Jesus of Uncool: Chris Martin: The Rolling Stone Interview
Here's another excerpt: http://www.starpulse.com/news/index.php/2008/06/11/insomnia_fuels_chris_martin_s_creative_p Insomnia Fuels Chris Martin's Creative Process Coldplay frontman Chris Martin rarely shares a bed with wife Gwyneth Paltrow when he is writing music - because he works at night in a hidden corner of their London home. The singer confesses the creative process is a tortuous one for him, and his best lyrics are often fueled by insomnia. Martin, currently promoting the band's new album Viva La Vida, tells Rolling Stone magazine, "My problem is that I often take a sleeping pill in order to go to sleep, but then I get excited about a song, so I go and play music, and then it kind of kicks in halfway through. I have a little corner where nobody can hear me in the middle of the night, and that's where I spend most of the night times. I wake up the next morning and find these strange notes to myself. I'm a little bit ashamed about it." :laugh3: Aww... I can kind of relate, I usually do my best creative stuff after I'm supposed to be asleep.

Coldplay to Take Over SIRIUS Satellite Radio Music Channel
From here Just noticed this, sorry if it's already been posted. SIRIUS' Alt Nation to become "Coldplay Nation" for ten days beginning June 13 NEW YORK, June 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- SIRIUS Satellite Radio (Nasdaq: SIRI) today announced that Coldplay will take over SIRIUS' Alt Nation channel 21 for ten days. Coldplay Nation will premiere on Friday, June 13 at 6:00 pm ET and will air through Sunday, June 22. The launch of Coldplay Nation coincides with the release of Viva La Vida, Coldplay's new album, which will be in stores June 17. The channel will feature music from Viva La Vida as well as other Coldplay songs and will include personal introductions by members of the band, including lead singer Chris Martin. The band will also select songs by artists who have influenced them over the years and some of their favorite music from today. Viva La Vida, Coldplay's fourth album, " ... was fueled by a desire to move from black and white into color," says Coldplay frontman Chris Martin. "Or, if you like, we decided to let our garden grow a little more unkempt. The bloodhound was let off its leash." "Coldplay has found chart-topping worldwide success by creating one of the most distinctive sounds and styles in popular music today," said Scott Greenstein, SIRIUS President of Entertainment and Sports. "We are thrilled to give Coldplay and their fans a channel on SIRIUS where they can hear the band introduce their music in addition to the unique music always played on Alt Nation, uninterrupted and non-stop for an unprecedented ten full days." Coldplay Nation continues SIRIUS' tradition of creating exclusive limited-run artist-branded channels dedicated to iconic musicians. SIRIUS has previously offered limited-run channels such as Radio R.E.M., Weezer Nation, Rolling Stones Radio, E Street Radio, Neil Diamond Radio, and JAY-Z Nation, among many others.

Andy Gill (Independent): 'Why I hate Coldplay'
Don't insult Frodo like that.:P He was intelligent, well spoken, and capable of feeling emotions- unlike that guy. (Not to mention in the books he was the one who wrote LotR... so there's really no difference, same question applies.)

Andy Gill (Independent): 'Why I hate Coldplay'
Looks like even some of their own staff couldn't stand him: http://blogs.independent.co.uk/independent/2008/06/mixtape-why-i-d.html Mixtape: Why I don't hate Coldplay By Tim Walker I like Coldplay. I do. I know, I know - very unfashionable, but there it is. I like their music. Always have. In fact, I like them so much that I'm convinced at least half the people who claim not to are lying in order to be cool. And I don't mind Chris Martin either. I mean, I've never met the man, but he's never done anything in public that could explain the rage he seems to inspire in my friends, my colleagues and, it seems, a good portion of the media. So it was with a kind of resigned weariness that I learned The Independent's esteemed rock critic Andy Gill would be joining the ranks of Coldplay-haters in this morning's paper. This will be another 2,000 words of undeserved bile tossed in the faces of poor Chris and his pals, I thought. And I was right. The commenters have been raging all morning, both for and against the band. I'll gladly be a witness for the defence. First, Coldplay's music. In the interests of full disclosure, I should mention that I own pretty much all of it - and I paid for it with my hard-earned pennies, not by nicking it from the internet or being sent it by eager PRs with the misguided impression that journalists hold any sway over the Coldplay-loving public. However, I also have a large collection of perfectly respectable records that Mr Gill and others would, I'm sure, happily spend a few days with. There's plenty of genres in there, and plenty of interesting, envelope-stretching artists (no, not just Radiohead). I like music, honest. But too often I'll take home a record by a so-called avant-garde act who's been handed five stars by various members of the music press, only to find that, in among all the clattery percussion or the dance crossover pretensions, there's only a couple of tunes fit to grace my iPod. Sometimes, when I buy a new record, I want to do so safe in the knowledge that I'll get my money's worth in muscular melodies and crashing chord changes - even if it turns out to be just G, C, D. Coldplay have invariably fulfilled that requirement, and I rely on them to do so. They're the best at it, and their continued existence means I needn't trouble myself with lesser bands of a similar persuasion. Another distinguished rock critic, the late Ian MacDonald, once wrote something along these lines: listeners' tastes are shaped by a heirarchy of three distinct elements - a band's music, a band's lyrics, and a band's image. Even if you're infuriated by his vague lyrics or his sensible attire, only the hardest heart could honestly claim they'd never been moved, even an inch, by one of Mr Martin's melodies. The lyrics, then. OK, they're hazy. Some of them are downright predictable, and they espouse the sort of simplistic sentiments that evidently make "serious" rock fans cringe. But I'm afraid that's their strength as well as their weakness. You can use Coldplay's songs as a painkiller when you're feeling low, or as a complement to euphoria. I hardly need to present evidence for the breadth of the band's appeal. What did X&Y sell again? Nine million, was it? Ten? I also want to address the issue of Chris Martin. How can such an inoffensive man make so many people so angry? So he does some charity work. That's, er... a good thing, isn't it? He's a darn sight more bearable than Bono, yet without the pair of them the man in the street might never have heard of Greenpeace or making trade fair. So he's not Johnny Rotten. I'd prefer, for once, a singer who's honest about being as middle-class as his fans, rather than another of the countless young stars who spend Saturday nights in Camden pretending they've always been into sex, drugs and rock'n'roll, before heading to their parents' place in Hampstead for a Sunday roast. As to the Gwyneth thing, we all know how easy it can be for a famous couple to fill the limelight by appearing on the red carpet or in Hello! magazine together at every given opportunity. Such couples face a tough job evincing sympathy whenever they feel their privacy has been invaded a little too much. Chris and Gwyneth, by contrast, go out of their way never to let anyone legitimately call them a "celebrity couple". Chris does all the necessary press for his new album, Gwyneth shows up in a short skirt for the premiere of her new film. They separate their work from their private lives, and instead of respecting them for it, we pour scorn on their choice of baby names. Yes, I know, "Apple" is a bit silly, but she'll probably end up pretty enough to get away with it. Finally, may I point out that, in spite of his professed "hatred" for Coldplay, Gill managed to find it within himself to reward their new album Viva La Vida a reasonably respectable three stars. If you're already a fan, or open-minded enough to be converted, you can translate that into (at least) a healthy four. Posted at 01:23 PM in MixTape |

A Certain Amount Of Posts..Which People Seem To Get Excited About!Woo!3000 Posts Now!
Congratz! :D :juggle: I think 1000 means more to some people than others. It meant a lot to me because it took me a couple of years to get there and it felt like it would never happen. If you make it in a month it probably won't mean as much. Though I do think it's the point that everyone except the hard-core spammers loose n00b status once and for all, so I guess it kind of has a bit of significance.

Please post SCANS of "viva la vida" packaging here
Yes it did, he meant that two songs were combined on one track for several of the tracks. People just misunderstood him because well, he's Chris.

Glowing Review in the Winnipeg Sun
From: http://winnipegsun.com/Entertainment/Music/2008/06/10/5827206-sun.html Viva Coldplay! Chris Martin & Co. breathe new life into their music with groundbreaking fourth album By DARRYL STERDAN "We reached the stage where we thought, 'We can't get much bigger, so we have to try and get better.' " So said Chris Martin on The Hour last week, explaining Coldplay's state of mind going into their fourth album. Well, lots of bands talk that talk. But these Brit-rockers actually walked the walk. They set up a rehearsal space/clubhouse to work casually and undisturbed. They brought in visionary producer/guru Brian Eno -- known for his work with U2 -- who reportedly made them switch instruments and jam every day to get their juices flowing. And most importantly, they tore up their rule book, slowly and painstakingly rebuilding their music from the ground up. It shows. On Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, Coldplay isn't just better; the band is the best it's ever been. And the most original. On these 10 songs, the band -- Martin, guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berriman and drummer Will Champion -- dispense with cliches and go with their guts. Big choruses and crescendos are few and far between. Songs flow organically, often shifting in midstream. Guitars and drums are swapped for strings and Middle Eastern percussion. Martin's swooning falsetto is deployed sparingly. And his big-picture lyrics -- which juxtapose life and death, rags and riches, right and wrong, love and revolution -- are poetic and less personal (not to mention far less wussy). Striking early singles such as Violet Hill and Viva la Vida hinted at the greatness. The full album -- which hits stores next Tuesday but is already streaming on the band's MySpace page after leaking all over the Internet -- confirms it. Maybe that's why their label EMI is reportedly counting on the CD to single-handedly fill their drained coffers. Maybe they're right; Viva la Vida is the biggest-selling pre-order in iTunes history, and the subsequent tour is guaranteed to be one of the year's hottest tickets. Looks like Martin was wrong. They can get bigger after all. It got 4.5 out of 5 stars, and there's a track by track analysis here

Much Better Rip Out There...Can You Tell The Difference?
Yeah, everything sounds more distinct on the myspace and radio versions I've heard. I'm not surprised, the first time I listened to Radiohead's In Rainbows on a proper cd after months of listening to the lower quality versions, I was startled that there were all these instruments playing on it that I hadn't heard before.

Change of Best song on Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends
It shifts constantly. Though the acoustic (and therefore non album) version of Lovers in Japan is my favorite new thing period.

What's So Great About Coldplay, Anyway?
For me, the first time I heard Clocks it felt like a ten-tonne weight had been lifted off my shoulders. I was working in a store, miserable (quit the next week), sick of three months of bad Christmas carols playing over and over, and it was finally the first week they had gone back to the radio instead of that one tape (not that anything on the radio was much better). The second thing was much like yours, Tracie. It was the first time anyone had given me hope that there was something beautiful and worthwhile in the world of modern music, because I didn't like most everything I had heard up to that point.

Viva La Beaver??
:laugh3: THAT'S A GROUNDHOG!!! It doesn't even look like a beaver- it has a furry tail. But yeah, the course is infested with them. Lots of drivers have hit them over the years. Dad said Nanini had a pretty bad encounter with one back in the early 90s. I doubt it was brave, it was probably running away because it was terrified. lol beaver.:lol:

I can't take it anymore...

My personal favorite is still the one from Rolling Stone where he talks about the two hardest things in his life being following Radiohead, and following Brad Pit. Man, I guess that would mess with your head after a while, wouldn't it?
