  1. Good morning everyone, how goes the vigil? It's too long to read... :stunned: Are the all-nighters dead yet? :sneaky:
  2. 12 BST is 8am here, so not so bad. I'll set my alarm and try to drag myself out of bed a couple of hours early. That's about what I did. It was like Christmas- I was dreaming about the album all night. Gave in and got up around 4 or 5 am (went to bed around 1 or 2), burnt it to cd, and listened to it in bed half asleep with the songs melting into my brain first in pitch dark, then with the dawn creeping through. One of my favorite little moments ever. It's such a powerful album that way. :nice:
  3.   Squeeeeeee!     :freak: :juggle: :juggle: :hat2: Thanks, Tracie, I needed that.
  4. Same here... mostly Coldplaying, listening to British radio stations online, and reading British magazines when I can (or at least their websites). I can't even talk about huge-in-Britain bands like Muse or the Arctic Monkeys without blank stares, funny looks, and "never heard of them"s.
  5. ^I'll say, sometimes it feels like it's easier to hear about Canadian bands of note through the British press than the Canadian press- who seem to be allergic to indie music. Though I'd say it's a lot easier for an American band to break Britain than vice versa. A British band could be huge chart toppers with constant airplay and massive sales at home but it won't make a whit of difference on the other side of the pond. They expect that if it's worth listening to, it would have been a hit in America already. Meanwhile, if any American band gets big enough, they will eventually get British airplay and interest, and all a smaller band needs is a couple of plays on national radio to catch on should they turn their sights on Britain. There is no real national radio at home, the territory is too big. Top 40 radio only plays things that are already hits (or have big money behind them). No big magazines like Q or the NME either. Just Rolling Stone, which acts as ancient as it is.
  6. Only 4 hours difference here... so early but not the end of the world. I'll probably set the alarm and keep 2 computers going, just in case...
  7. Yes they do, Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator are the industry standards (at least when I studied design, anyway). BUT, there are certain functions of those programs that no self respecting designer with any proper training would ever use, because they make the work look cheesy and amateurish. It would mean never being hired again because any potential clients would think you didn't have a clue what you were doing.
  8. Remember guys, the BBC (both Radio 1 and 6 Music) has a listen again option, so even the late risers can listen to the show on the BBC website. So let me get this straight, 6 music has the first play sometime tuesday morning, Jo Whiley gets to play it on her show around noon, and then Xfm will be playing it in the afternoon.
  9. Ooh, that's rough... I played floor hockey with a girl like that in highschool. She picked on me and a lot of other girls all the time about everything to begin with, but give her a hockey stick and it wouldn't just be words any more, she would go straight for the shins- and she liked aluminum sticks too. Even if you were on her team. I would come home with my legs covered in bruises, but no one would do anything about it. The teacher thought it was fair play. So not only is she abusive, she doesn't know what she's doing or how to play. :dozey: Good grief. Well I'd just completely ignore the yelling, but from the sound of the rest of it, you need to get some of the other people you're working with together and have a good talk with her about strategy, the rules of the game, teaching methods. Just make sure it's off the field- and no attacks or name calling those just make it worse. Who knows, maybe she'll see sense. There's always hope. Alas, no such luck with the hockey demon though, I had to put up with her until she was kicked out of school after a teacher caught her smoking.
  10. Yay Jenjie! :D

WOW. :stunned: I wasn't that interested- guess I was expecting Arctic Monkeys part 2. Figured I'd listen eventually. Eventually came yesterday. What I was not expecting was a 60s-ish James Bond style epic. It's brilliant! This is the sort of music that I've been complaining for years now that no one makes anymore. Did I mention wow? ooh... and they had Final Fantasy (Owen Pallett) do all the strings too! :nice:
  12. Well Ben Linus from Lost has sure been creeping me out lately. Not that he didn't before, but to see his weird powers work off the island too... ugh... *chills*

"Coca-Cola went to town, Diet Pepsi shot him down. Doctor Pepper fixed him up, now we're drinking 7-Up. 7-Up caught the flu, now we're drinking Mountain Dew. Mountain Dew fell off the mountain, now we're drinking from a fountain. Fountain broke, now we're back to drinking Coke." I used to love Mountain Dew back when it wasn't caffeinated up here in Canada (it was illegal to add caffeine to light coloured drinks for a while for some stupid reason no one could remember ). Haven't had it in years though. I've been trying not to have any soft drinks for a long time. The sugar crash afterwards isn't worth it.
  14. It came from Afrikakakakakakakakaaaaaa........................   Love them, hate them, don't know what to think. Though they do have some awesome videos. My brother was into them big time a few years ago. Played them constantly. Drove me crazy. Then he moved out. And then I missed them terribly. And now I like them. Funny how that works, eh?
  15. Yeah, I really don't get it either. I just try to treat them all nicely anyway and not play along. Seems to work- I'm not a threat or a rival so we all get on with our lives. Though I was really thrown for a loop not long ago when someone started talking about "girl code" to me. Never heard of it. At all. Turns out it's a massive violation of girl code not to know about it. :freak: But where the hooey do you find out about it if you're not one of *those* girls to begin with? They say it's supposed to keep you from getting in big catfights, yet the ones who supposedly follow it are the most likely to do that stuff to begin with. Well too late for me anyway, apparently so I hear, I've already broken one of the biggest ones- dating a close friend's ex. Thanks for the heads up ahead of time ladies. But for the record, I asked her permission first. And I don't think she's heard of girl code either. What a weird world. Has anyone else ever heard of it?
  16. I think he was temporarily banned when I started coming here... I remember being thoroughly confused by it at the time. Figured it out before too long when he came back. :laugh4: I seem to have always hit just the right balance of being around enough to know who he was, but quiet/otherwise occupied enough to miss the full force of his personality. But hey, you never know... some people do eventually over time start to grow up a little... :sneaky: Guess we'll have to wait and see...
  17. I know. I feel so guilty now, I keep missing everyone elses. Guess July is a popular month what with vacation and all...
  18. AWW, THANKS SO MUCH GUYS!!! :D    Any yes, it was a great day. Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, I've been too busy playing with all my shiny new toys. (Not to mention David Tennant looks even better up on a real tv screen off some proper dvds :wink3:... can't guarantee you'll see me again for the next week or so...) Just for the confused, my name is Mo, Erin used to be my username. (Because I have a twisted sense of humor like that :P;)) But I'll gladly answer to both. .... And just for the record, this just made my day: :laugh3::laugh3::laugh3::laugh3::laugh3: That's brilliant! Where on earth did you find it? (no pun intended...)
  19. Well I know how to get it on the comp if I get a hold of it, but it will only be a crappy audacity rip with an iffy crackly cable. :\ Fingers crossed that Chapters stocks it otherwise I'm sunk. Checked the website- 20 bucks shipping to Canada. So much for that thought. Durr. Love, love, love the splotchy colourful artwork, though. Guess we were right about the website art being connected.
  20. ^ But why us? Why won't you actually talk to us?
  21. You know it's funny. The image I still permanently have of Coldplay is of the young (younger than me, anyway, even though they're older) gawky college kids they came across as the first time I ever saw them on tv. (which alas has never made it onto youtube) Kinda weird seeing them so much older now. Time... it's a funny thing. Even without a TARDIS.
  22. Still loving BBC 6 Music. I probably wouldn't like half of the kinds of music I do if it wasn't for Coldplay introducing me to the wonderful Steve Lamacq back when they did all the tour updates for him. Such a great mix of stuff they usually play on there.
  23. Been there, seen that. Wish I could be of some help, but I ended up pretty much dropping out. :embarassed: (Seriously- don't do that unless you have something better lined up ahead of time.) But yes, your friends attitude is definitely going to rub off if you let it. And yes, from personal experience, that is probably going to affect your marks sooner or later. Probably the best thing is a little perspective. Take a good hard look at your goals and what you need to get there. Think about the things in university that you enjoy- a class, a teacher, something that inspired you. Think about the stuff you would probably never find out about anywhere else. Think about how much the experience will make you grow as a person- it's like training for a race. Every hurdle you jump, every (mental) lap you run only makes you even stronger so that little things won't seem so big next year and forever after. That's what got me through when I was down but wanted to stay. And yes, university is supposed to be hard. The idea as I understand it is that it's supposed to help you get ready for the real world. Which also sucks. :laugh3: *sigh* (Actually, I've had the exact same problem at jobs too... I think I like it at first, but everyone else hates it. So it's sort of universal whether you're in school or working.) But anyway, I found very gently talking to people saying that you need to get through this and you really need to have a positive attitude to do it can make a big difference. As for me, I hung in for a long time, and when I did finally leave, I left because I realised what I really wanted was some time to de-stress and start writing again, and to eventually take up a trade. (And I ran out of money...) It wasn't an impulsive thing- it was really a conclusion I came to after adding everything up. Good luck to you. ;)
  24. Still, it is a fishbowl.
