Across The Universe!
I love it so much... got both the movie and the soundtrack for my birthday. :D Julie Taymore (sp?) makes me want to be a director. I love the way she sees the world.

I'm Back :-)
24 isn't much to worry about- I have two more years of school ahead of me and I'm 26. Most of my friends are in the same boat, even the ones who had half decent jobs a couple of years ago... The twenties... they're made for drifting apparently. But wow... I've been hanging around here for about 3 years now, and it feels like forever, and you're so much older in board years. Makes me wonder if we're all going to be meeting up from time to time here or somewhere for the rest of our lives. :stunned:

A Spell A Rebel Yell *LYRICS*
I love how the lyrics of the two songs (this and violet hill) seem to be two parts of the same story- sort of a call and answer. The perfect sort of b-side. :D In Violet Hill there are all these lyrics about war and death as though they were written by an anguished soldier thinking of the person back at home: "I don't want to be a soldier With the captain of some sinking ship With snow, far below So if you love me Why'd you let me go?" And finally he reminisces. It's like he was trying to say goodbye but she was so upset she couldn't answer: "I took my love down to violet hill There we sat in snow All that time she was silent still So if you love me Won't you let me know?" Now that he's gone off to war, the answer finally comes in ASARY: "soldier come home to me you've been away from me for so long (so...) all i want in this world all i want and deserve is for you to come home" That's what I get out of them anyway. They're very Coldplay-ish lyrics in one way, but light years beyond anything in the past in another way. There are real stories and background and running themes now. It's very cool. I'm getting really excited about the album now.

I like it. :nice: Nice surprise for the day.

How Many Times Have You Listened to Violet Hill?
Probably more than 10 times. I'm really trying to limit it- I learned that lesson the hard way with Speed of Sound. It knocks the album too far off balance for me if I've heard one song too many times. Can't that one jump the cue? It's only one song. ...and you are a mod around here. :P

Violet Hill - Another Anti-Bush song?
"Carnival of idiots" can pretty much apply to most of history. In fact, (at least in my experience) the study of history especially conflicts is like a giant pagent of idiots messing up the world one generation at a time, over and over. Could mean almost anything or anyone. Not to mention, "idiots" is plural.

Game - Intros 2008
Ok, some of these are really bugging me, I don't have a clue what they are but I really, really want to hear the rest. So come on people, any more guesses?

How you feel today?
Sick. I hate sinus colds. I hate sleeping in past noon from cold medicine so I can't sleep now. I don't understand why my immune system hates ME so much. So many rounds of stuff this year. Bleh.

WHAT IF COLDPLAY never existed!?
If Coldplay hadn't existed, I wouldn't really like music at all. :stunned: I would have stuck with listening to odds and ends of celtic stuff, I may have given in and listened to the occasional bit of my Dad's classical stuff, but I would have given up on the radio thinking it was the only source of current stuff and that it was all terrible. How sad is that? I never would have learned how to play guitar, or gotten back to trying to play the piano. I never would have gone to any concerts to find out how much I liked live music. (Coldplay was my first real concert. The only one I went to before that was traumatizing) I never would have learned how to write my own stuff. I would still be terrified of music geeks and record stores because I didn't understand them... The list goes on. Coldplay are the band that made me realize what was out there. My musical first love, so to speak, I guess. :nice:

Carl Barat Accuses Coldplay Of 'Jumping On The Bandwagon'
I would like to see the original transcript of that interview- I saw some other versions, and it looks like Barat was talking about it all in the context of how hard it was for his band to scrape together the money for recording their next album- in spite of being somewhat successful. Watching another band rent out Madison Square Garden when you can't afford studio time, that's got to hurt.

The "Save the foreigners from their crappy radio stations with no Coldplay" thread
Well our radio station is crap, but at least they play Coldplay. Violet Hill apparently just won the "Battle of the Block Rockin' Beats" tonight. Didn't hear it myself, I've developed an allergy to local radio it's so bad. So anyway, looks like Coldplay will be on every two hours or so again for the next several months until all the haters start going around asking for all the Coldplay fans' heads on pikes. Eek. You think they could learn to play more than 10 or so different songs a day, but no. They just have to drive everyone mental. Look at the playlist if you don't believe me, it's pretty much Madonna, Rhianna, Madonna, Headly, Rhianna, Madonna, Nelly Furtado. *sigh*

WHAT IF COLDPLAY never existed!?
I.... have never thought of that before. My head just exploded.

Carl Barat Accuses Coldplay Of 'Jumping On The Bandwagon'
It's a pathetic argument. Small, relatively unknown bands have been giving away free tracks for years now- long before any majors got the idea. And the same internet that let Coldplay give their track away is the very reason so many smaller bands have become known in recent years. It's why there aren't as many big names in general to upset things - the fans are all going off in their own directions after all the different little bands. It's why little old me in Nova Scotia far away from his 'scene' can say that not only have I heard of Carl Barat, but I quite like a couple of his songs.

The 'Albie' Experience
Wow, speaking of blasts from the past, welcome back! :stunned::D Don't think we ever talked, but always great to see another Bluenoser around here. :nice:

You can HEAR A Spell A Rebel Yell
It's gorgeous! Yes, very U2-ish, and couldn't exist without Eno, but for anyone who remembers other attempts at a U2 song (the original live world turned upside down for example) this is way better.

Positive Music Recommendations anyone?
Stars! It's all about falling in and out of love, so some very happy songs and some sadder ones, but never downers in my experience. Look Up (sorry, fanvid) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdPyaFnBQC4

Well, for a thread that is supposed to be about anything but, there sure seems to be an elephant in the room anyway.... :P

Coldplay:"Arcade Fire Shaped Our New Album"
^Yeah, that's expensive too. It's about 7 or 8 bucks here (providing anyone has it to begin with) so about 4 pounds after having it shipped over?

Coldplay:"Arcade Fire Shaped Our New Album"
Well Win married a Canadian, so close enough. Actually, she's Hatian, but that's kind of exactly it- we don't do the melting pot thing, everyone comes from all over, (plenty of American draft dodgers for example) it's the ending up here and joining in that makes you Canadian. So he's both say I. :P

If You Were Eno/Coldplay Pt. 2
Come to think of it, that's originally what got me looking into indie music in the first place. I didn't have a clue where to start but I couldn't handle the buzzing anymore and I would have given up on modern music completely at that point if I hadn't found anything better. People who listen to it all the time may get numb to it, but if you've been listening to other stuff and turn on the radio, it feels like your under attack.

A few Things Off My Chest.
It does feel a bit like trying to yell over a crowd at people you're used to just chatting with. On the other hand, I was one of those new people exactly like now when Speed of Sound came out, and scared of all the people who yelled at n00bs for not knowing stuff, and intimidated by all the people who seemed to know each other so well. So there's a great deal of sympathy both ways.

If You Were Eno/Coldplay Pt. 2
Like others have said elsewhere, it was mastered way too loud. But that's not a mixing problem it happens later. Still, not pleasant when you have a sinus cold and everything is buzzing making it worse. Why on earth do they do that anyway? It adds nothing to a song and takes away plenty.
