  2. I was just thinking tonight how exciting it is that the new album is on its way. Think of it this way: It could come out in December (probably not) or in March or even next June but it WILL come out sometime in the next year. Chances are it will be out in LESS then a year. Not three years... not two years... but by this time next year we will have already had it in our hands and everything that comes with that. Just imagine: - first time seeing the new tracklisting and talking about the song titles. - going online one day and seeing the artwork for the first time. - the official countdown when the release date is given. - reading those advanced song descriptions they give in music magazines. - hearing the first single as it makes it's debut on the radio. - going to the store on the day it comes out and buying it. - putting it in and hearing it for the first time! - watching as it slowly becomes a part of the band's history. I think very soon the news will start to pick up and roll in. There is going to be a lot to talk about here over the next year and I can't wait to read the album reviews, debate which songs are better, see as the album brings "new" fans to this board for the first time and so on and so on... To be able to watch first hand as a band you love builds its legacy is an amazing thing. It's about to be a very exciting time to be a coldplay fan again!
  3. 1. Coldplay 2. Arcade Fire 3. Radiohead 4. U2 5. Oasis The Killers and REM are right there too...
  4. Post Bill Berry REM (some nice moments), War/UABRS era U2, and the new Arcade Fire album
  5. a tracklisting was put up on wikipedia. its on the LP5 page. i know we have seen MANY fake tracklistings over the years and that anybody can throw whatever they want up on wiki but I just thought i would pass it along. It reads as follows... Tentative track listing The rumoured final tracklist leaked on July, 25 on various music blogs. The Beginning of the End Alien Radio Lights In The Sky The Soloist / Love Is All Around Better Than Today Made for You Run! Wedding Bells Lethal Dose / Dublin Late On the Final Day as you can see it says this list showed up on "various music blogs" but I didnt see it anywhere else... did any of you? pretty sure (very sure really) that this is a fake but VERY exciting because fake tracklistings mean one thing... we're getting closer!
  6. Kings of Leon are said to have a album out in the fall. There are still rumors that U2 may put out a second album of songs from the NLOTH sessions to coincide with the new leg of the 360 tour. The Arcade Fire's new album will be out by this fall as will a new disc from Radiohead. Franz Ferdinand are working on a new album as are The Strokes although that record has now been pushed back to 2011. Keane of course has an EP out this summer but are also said to have a new album in the works. We still are not sure if the new Coldplay album will be out by the end of this year but no matter how you look at it there is a lot of great new music heading our way.
  7. I have to agree with this 100% Things I Don't Understand is among my favorite b-sides and is by far my favorite to come out of the X&Y sessions. While I find other b-sides are very good Things I Don't Understand is the only one that I listen to and just can't see why it was left off the album.
  8. One of the things that I love about Coldplay is that no matter how many times I listen to an album I always seem to find something that I didn't notice before. This was the case when I decided to listen to Parachutes today for the first time in quite a while. Before i share what it is that found I thought it would be interesting to ask other board members to go back and listen to the album again, really listen, and then make a post on this thread with anything new that you just never really noticed before. It's like finding out something new about and old friend and if enough people participate we can do it with the rest of the albums. What I found: So I was listening to the album the whole way through today and, as sily as it is, I never noticed that how in the song Parachutes there is a direct lyrical reference tho the Shiver. We all know the line from Shiver, "I'll be waiting in line just to see if you care" and it just hit me for the first time today that in the song Parachutes he sings "here I am and I'll wait in line." I know it seems like a small detail but for me it adds evem more depth to that little 46 second song and ties the album together a little more in a way. I would really love to hear what other people find... be it a lyric, concept, bass line, guitar riff... anything that is new to you even after all these years.
  9. hello uk fans i see that nme has an issue out this week going over some of the albums that are due in 2010. i was wondering if they give any mention of the next coldplay album which i know has a chance, even if it might be a small one, off seeing the light of day this year. im not expecting anything major but any news at all would be exciting at this point. thanks
  10. Half of the fun of loving this band of ours as much as we do is being able to discuss thier past work while waiting for whatever it is that the future will bring. With the tour now over and a new web site up and running (or at least in the making) the Viva era comes to a close. Now that is has had the time to sink in we can look back on the past 15 months with some well informed opinions. My question for all of you is as follows: In your opinion what are the 5 best songs of the Viva la Vida era? mine- 05. Lovers in Japan 04. Glass of Water 03. Viva la Vida 02. Violet Hill 01. Strawberry Swing I take a great amount of joy in being able to be a fan of a band that can be spoken of in "eras" - to me that just shows how much the band is always growing and changing. You can hear it in each of the four albums and it will be beyond exciting to see where they go next.
  11. Try and fit as many Coldplay song titles into a sentence (or two) as you can and still have that sentence make perfect sense. This is the one I came up with: "I told the ONE I LOVE that HELP WAS ROUND THE CORNER to save us from the TROUBLE we were in, but she just put me IN MY PLACE and said that I’d better be gone by DAYLIGHT." Have fun with it...
  12. My Top 5 01) Help Is Round the Corner off the Yellow single 02) Things I Don't Understand off the Speed of Sound single 03) One I Love off the In My Place single 04) See You Soon (not a b-side i know) off the Blue Room EP 05) I Ran Away off the Scientist single I also have very high hopes for the studio version of Glass of Water
  13. It's simple! All you do is take one track/song from each release and put it onto the release that came before it. It could be one that you think fits best on that album, one that you think fits better on that album then the one it's on, or just one that you would have like to seen on that release instead... anything. The only rule is that a track can only "skip back" one release so, for example, you couldn't put Strawberry Swing on A Rush of Blood to the Head. Here's mine: We Never Change from Parachutes goes onto The Blue Room EP In My Place from A Rush of Blood to the Head goes onto Parachutes Til Kingdom Come from X&Y goes onto A Rush of Blood to the Head Lost! from Viva la Vida goes onto X&Y Glass of Water from the Prospekt's March EP goes onto Viva la Vida now yours...
  14. The title pretty much says it all. What non album tracks could you see the band putting on the eventual "best of/greatest hits" along side the mega hits like Yellow, Speed of Sound, Violet Hill... So far i think that See you Soon off of the Blue Room EP and, from what i've heard of it live, Glass of Water of off the soon to be released Prospekt's March EP both have the potential to make the cut. Possibly the live version of Moses of off 2003 as well... your thoughts?
  15. While they have had and will continue to have a number of radio hits... so far the songs that I believe are TRUE CLASSICS, meaning the songs that will still be played with a somewhat heavy rotation on radio stations 25 years from now, are as follows: Yellow Clocks Viva la Vida ... possibly The Scientist That's not to say that those are the only songs that people will remember or even that those are the only songs that will still get play. It's just my opinion that so far those tracks are the ones that the band will be most remembered for. It should also be noted that just because these have been some of Coldplay's most "popular" songs that does not necessarily mean that the majority of fans would consider them thier "best".
  16. Don't have any scans but just thought people might like to know.
  17. I bought my copy this afternoon at Jewel-Osco. The review is also not too bad with the album getting 3.5/5 stars.
  18. I have a strong feeling that this has something to do with the song Postcards From Far Away. I think this might be the second of the two “top tier” songs that prospekt told us they had planned for independent release. The first being the Violet Hill give away before they decided to keep it on the album as well. Postcards has shown up in too many places (the “postcard” function on the mock web pages, the Google toolbar screen caps, the article in rolling stone) not to be something special. While I don’t see Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends being a two part double album, I do think that we are at least going to get a companion EP. This may have been the plan for some time now and the reason why tracks like Famous Old Painters and Postcards itself did not make the album. This is, of course, all speculation on my part.

  21. For my fellow Americans and other non-UK Coldplay fans... I just got my copy as a pre-order off e-bay and it only cost me $15 with shipping included. The seller still had 2 more available after I bought mine. Now to find a record player...
  22. Coldplay have a number of exeptional b-sides icluding tracks such as I Ran Away, Crest of Waves, Help Is Round the Corner, One I Love, Things I Dont Understand and For You... all of which, in my opinion, stand shoulder to shoulder with the songs found on the albums and are a must hear for any major Coldplay fan. These songs can be found on import singles which can in turn be found on places like amazon or ebay. If you have a quality record store in your area you may also be able to pick up a few there. It's a fun, if not a little expensive, hobby trying to collect them all and the main page has an excellent discography that will help ypu get started. The Blue Room EP came out before Parachutes and is also a solid effort with songs like See You Soon, Such a Rush, and Bigger Stronger. This is somewhat rare and when found can be a little costly but if your building a complete collection it's well worth it. Live 2003 is also great and while I wouldnt say that they "jam out" they do bring a certain new life to the songs live that keeps them interesting and takes them to another level. In short... most of the non album tracks are fantastic, all are interesting, and I gurantee you will find a new favorite or two. Have fun discovering them.
  23. 01) Help is Round the Corner 02) Things I Don't Understand 03) One I Love
  24. Im gonna say... Help is Round the Corner to replace High Speed One I Love to replace A Whisper Things I Don't Understand to replace Low
