letdown

ok i still like coldplay and all but to say that radiohead are the past and coldplay are the future is very exasperating to hear. and if what this silly article suggests is true then i'm definitely living in the past. (..but they always say everything was better back in the days. no?) one can claim coldplay have definitely made progress with their music (from x&y to viva la vida is a progress indeed) but why discredit radiohead while doing so? completely, utterly, and wholly unnecessary.

they probably won't, because guy needs his beauty sleep and will and jonny must get back to their video game

for coldplay maybe? for the amount of money you are spending on these guys you'd think they'd play more than 20 songs. when i was at a radiohead concert last month i believe they played nearly 2 hrs, around 25 songs. 1 encore.. pfui

is it just me or is this the greatest fucking song coldplay ever came up with. i was a bit disheartened when chris called parachutes rubbish because it's one of my favourite albums but after all he obviously knows his shit what with politik also being on his top 3. the last bit of politik (around 3:00 mark and onwards) is better than all of viva la vida + x & y combined.

no i just think they've gone from awesome to tiresome sounds like they are trying so hard, but not sure if it's working. obviously it's working for most people because look at the rate at which this record is selling, but honestly, what a let down.

ok i agree with wishing chris to go back to playing his piano and quit with the moronic dancing but what is it about your wanting Guy to REALLY play his bass?? i think the problem is they should stop rockin and go back to being artsy just like in the really old EP days. you think the latest coldplay is "artsy"? have you not heard artsy music?? this is way too glossed over and commercialized (x&y) but now they added some experimenting to it (VLV). i don't LOVE vlv but it's definitely better than x&y though!!!

I don't know, songs like Easy to Please, I ran away, For you, Only Superstition, careful where you stand sound so.. simple yet amazing, earnest, i don't know the word I am looking for, but yeah. VLV was good but it's no grower for me :(

maybe everyone likes to pick on coldplay because they are arguably the biggest band in the world right now and some people don't know WHY. :P they are good, but they are not amazing. which is probably why they appeal to such a huge audience out there, hence selling millions of copies. because they suit the general public's needs of a nice sounding, make-you-feel-good kind of music. albeit their little experimenting with VLV which i don't think was all that brilliant but hats off to coldplay for trying. they must have been under so much pressure, i respect their effort.

qualitative difference?? ... i would understand if coldplay meant more to you for sentimental reasons, but when you mention "quality" i just find that a bit ironic that you say coldplay means more

and here at coldplay board coldplay only have slight lead.. 'nuff said. i like coldplay but they pale in comparison with radiohead. sorry, but it's true.

This one was a bit of a let down for me. I really like Part 1, don't care much for Part 2 (sounds like a spinoff version of Go to Sleep guitar riffs), and Part 3 I really don't like.. I think it sucks to be honest. I wish I could like this song in its entirety, but it's just not working for me. don't think this one quite works like a 3 part epic they had intended it to be. It starts off so well, and I don't know what happens in the middle and in the end. So much for going slightly experimental (within the realm of Coldplay world)

Hmm.. never occured to me it was Morning Bell I thought that Part 2 of 42 sounded more like GO TO SLEEP at 2:05 and onwards (the guitar riffs). As for Chris's singing "you didn't get to heaven but you made it close" Pt.3, he sounds a bit like Thom in CUTTOOTH (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9_ngO76bso) in particular the part where he sings "a little bit of knowledge will destroy you" not sure if i'm being absurd for saying that but yeah.

how can you clump the last three together? the first was excellent, the second was quite good, third was meh.

all i am saying is if i wanted experimental i would listen to experimental, not coldplay going quasi experimental. really impressed with wills drumming on this one though, in the past he bored me but here it is good!! i've listened to the record once more and one thing i am getting tired of is jonny´s guitar.. why does it sound alway the same.. his sound is wearing me out a bit (throughout this record) ..i am leaving before people start getting on my case for criticizing the lead guitarist

I think the new album is great, they obviously put a lot of effort into each song but does anyone think some parts are a bit contrived/over done? And I wish they did not clump 2 songs into one, that is kind of annoying. They could have been two great songs, not one song going into another - they don't even really have an amazing transition. Is it just me who sort of misses the old simple Parchutes days? I mean I think that is what Coldplay are best at. Now they sound a bit like other bands, for example Chinese Sleep Chant sounds My Bloody Valentine like, other songs sound U2, then some Radiohead.. experimenting and all that is good but what good is it if it only sounds like other bands? Minor criticism, but still excellent album.. Parachutes > Viva la vida > AROBTTH > X&Y

i love the beginning part a lot, but not so much the latter bit when guitars come in, because the guitar riff reminds me of "go to sleep" which is my least fav. song on radiohead's Hail to the Thief not to mention the way chris sings one line sounds exactly like "cuttooth" by radiohead blehh

is it just me or does this song sound like radiohead? is this the song that someone told chris "it sounded like radiohead" so he re-worked on it? it sounds very hail to the thief -ish more than X&Y. the guitar riff.. a bit of sit down stand up + go to sleep mixed together or something (except less brilliant) edit: definitely t's not just me, i just read a few previous posts and some of you think the same
