  1. ^ Its hard to expect the collective group not to get pissed about this, they are defending the band at any cost. I see what you are sayin, I really do...just don't know if your timing is any less suspect that Joe's?
  2. "That is rude. You should not make comments that have overtones suggesting that I have no interest in the band outside this case. You don't know what my history is with this band, and I don't feel compelled to reveal it at this time. You should welcome outside voices to pull you out of your "Coldplay Group Think." I passionately love Coldplay, but I am an independent thinker and try to see the other side. You should too..." yeah...I see what your saying...but there are atleast two posters in here who came in here soley to rip on Coldplay fans, you can tell by their sign up date and avitars of Joe. Lets just face it there are things that are suspect on both ends and for the good of music they need to settle it fast.
  3. Chord progressions and diatonic theory aside, sharing the same tempo and having 4-5 notes sequentually in a verse melody does not constitute as plagerism. If it does then god help us bands who make any music, it will probably be compared to something and our hard work considered to be a "rip off". Just the other day my bass player sat down on my keyboard and told me he had an awesome song idea. He played it for me with a strings voice and I said dude...yeah...that's awesome...its pretty much exactly like the Enya song "sail away". He agreed after listening, but never ever had any INTENT to copy oar mimic the song. This lawsuit is in poor taste, and will probably do nothing more than discourage young talent from creating music.
  4. Guys seriously, half the reason people call us "gay" sometimes is because some Coldplay fans tend to be a tad sensative. No matter what band you are there are always gonna be plenty of haters. I *()&^%^ hate Kanye West but there are PLENTY of people who like him. Just the way it goes. Don't take being called "gay" and people bashing Coldplay so personally. It just means they have caught plenty of people's attention. Would you rather them say "oh, who is this Coldplay?". Be proud of who you are... some of my best friends have said I'm "gay for Coldplay" and I tell them...yeah...I guess I probably am a little...because there is no denying that I love the band so why hide it or be ashamed. The lead singer of my band actually IS gay (and actually doesn't even care for Coldplay) and he has no problem admitting it...If someone wants to give him a hard time about it that is their problem. That said, yes Joe Satriani is a very talented guitarist, but as the video from 2002 shows A LOT of music is "influenced" by other stuff. Some of it ends up sounding nothing like what it was even influenced. One of my bands songs piano part was heavily "influenced" by Viva La Vida but you would NEVER in a million years make that comparison even after I told you. So many of their songs have been influenced by other works yet they sound nothing like it. All said I think they should have just given him some money to make him go away. I respect both as artists (but am a much bigger Coldplay fan) but seriously, the timing is really suspect here and the similarities sound like a big deal to the untrained ear but those of us who are musically trained have pretty much all said the same thing...this can happen...and I doubt Chris and co. sat around drinking tea listening to Joe Satriani too often.
  5. Well since Snatchfan can't seem to respond when real musicians make points i'm goin to bed for the night.
  6. Dejan - easy on Rush of Vida geez...lol
  7. Then how many consecutive notes is it? Can you count them for me and name them note by note? Are you in a band or even play an instrument? I don't know why you join the forum just to harass coldplay fans do you have nothing better to do on a Friday night? If you know so much about music why don't YOU fill ME in. I wasn't even trying to out do you i'm just making some valid points. Go start your own band if you don't like Coldplay. Just don't you dare use the same notes in a row as anyone else....
  8. One thing is for sure, Viva La Vida is a solid album and he does NOT deserve royalties for the entire album for 4-5 consecutive notes.
  9. Satch is a great guitarist, but is a TOTALLY different genre than Coldplay. He is not even close to something they would even be interested in listening to, probably actually have never heard much of him. Guitar is just one instrument, and actually is probably the most over-rated instrument. Guys who can "shred" are a dime a dozen. Guys that can play up and down the neck as fast as lighting but have no idea how to keep a beat or even read sheet music. I'm not saying Satch falls into this category, but alot of "shredders" do and Satchfan probably is one of them. The melody and guitar riff are similar, theres no doubt to that. However I do not think that an artist would waste there time turning a guitar riff into a vocal melody. Even so, it doesn't match...Chris starts with "I used to" and THEN the guitar riff it so called copies starts and then "Ceaser'd rise" is two seperate notes while the guitar riff alternates those notes back and forth during that part. Anyways long story short, there is 4-5 notes max consecutive similarity and to constitute as plagarism there needs to be at least 8 consective. I know very little about Satriani, but I respect him a lot less now for sueing a fellow musician. Get over over and make more music, if they were "influenced" by it...take pride that someone made a great song and was "influenced" by a pretty solid guitar riff.
  10. This is pretty common in music actually. Very rarely does someone play just one instrument, however where you do see it is mainstream music, thats why people think this is the case most of the time. We only are used to seeing/hearing mainstream pop/rock music and these musicians generally only play one instrument or a lot of times can't actually play ANY instruments. This is why I love Coldplay, there is a genuine musical talent that is hard to find anymore. In my band, our drummer can also play guitar and bass, our bass player can play guitar and keyboard, and I play Guitar, bass, keyboard and saxophone....soon to learn the violin.
  11. Does anyone remember this song? It was written (well atleast part of it that we have heard) right after they went off tour for X & Y. It was obviously never finished (or maybe it was?). I would love to hear a finished version of this song, although I doubt it will happen :-s
  12. Theres no "right" way to find people. Being in a larger city with universities will help alot. Myself I kinda fell into it, was asked to play keyboard for one of my g/fs friends band, and we have since become good friends. I didn't like the style at first I just did it cause it was fun but our old guitarist left, we obtained a great vocalist (mutual friend of my g/f and I) and a new guitar player, and now its pretty much me and the orginal guy who write the stuff, and the the others have no problem playing whatever we write, they just want to play!
  13. I think its a great idea....
  14. Hammer ons/offs, finger slides and a shit load of delays (more than just the DL4 can produce on its own) Its likely hes using a lot of his rack gear for that one. He probably loops some of it as well.
  15. yeah there deffinately some delay modulation there, the sound produced sounds similar to a leslie speaker...which there are multiple ways to emulate. That constant drone could also be produced by a keyboard/synth modulator however in this case I do think its his guitar and (highly priced) rack gear.
  16. Not sure if this is the right place for this, if not ill move it.... I was just wondering how many people on this forum play in a band and if so what instrument do you play? Do you do orginals or covers? both? I play keyboard for a band. We do covers and orginals, but try to focus on our original work more. If you want to hear what we sound like go here: http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/pages/Conscious-Limit/59018297784?ref=ts There will be a few songs towards the bottom of the page that you can listen to. Feel free to become a fan if you'd like! Let me know what you guys think.
  17. 7.5/10 Glass of Water and Rainy Day are highlights for me. The others (that aren't remixes of songs we already knew) are solid and what I have come to expect from Coldplay. The first part of Now My feet Won't Touch the Ground reminds me of Parachutes. Prospekts March is pretty good, just expected it to continue where it ended....
  18. Postcards was the instrumental right after The Hardest Part, there are no lyrics. Whats interesting is the setlest says they "may play Glass of Water before or after Yellow" and they didn't :-(. It also has Prospects March and they didnt play that either.
  19. I guess just click here.... http://www.flickr.com/photos/84948349@N00/show/with/3036024704/

  21. you obviously dont write any music or have one shred of knowledge regarding music. To even make a claim that there is the same "chord progression" is a complete waste of time. There are only so many chords to choose from ALOT of songs have similar chord progressions to each other. Stop wasting our time.
  22. ok so it looks like posting pics requires a little more effort than I anticipated and I need to go get my drink on. But Alas, I will share the story of the setlist. My g/f and I had this planned that after the show she would go to Guys area and I would go to Jonnys and start asking for setlists, but it was crowded. I told her to go back to the sound engineer's area and ask, she said she didn't think that would work because people would already be there, but I told her that not many people know that there is one there. I came up to no avail, security were dicks and kicked us out, but to my joyous suprise my g/f calls me and says "I got one!". Half stunned I walked back to meet up with her and sure enough, she said she was the only one standing there and they guy gave one right to her. On it, the setlist states they may play Glass of Water "before or after yellow" and that Dubliners/Prospects March was SUPPOSE to be played, however they were not. (Glass of Water was NOT played). So I was disappointed in that but nonetheless thrilled that I got a setlist! The moral of this tale is that it may be your BEST bet to go to the back of the floor to the sound boards and ask those guys since no one else knows about it. I promise, pictures to come soon.
  23. Hey everyone...kinda disappointed in my fellow mid-westerners for the lack of pictures and what not. I will post some pics when I get back from getting some food ( I am starving). Believe me I have some AMAZING pics (including one of all four of their butts taken by my g/f for all you ladies out there). My g/f also got the one of the setlists which gives insight on Glass of Water and Prospects March. Details to follow soon.
