  1. Am I like, the only one from the mid-west on here that is going to this show? Anyone else from MN/WI/IA going? Be nice to know some fellow coldplayers are gonna be there!
  2. Why does everyone hate Rainy Day? Its probably one im most favorable too.... Prospekts March is cool, and reminds me of a Dont Panic or The Scientist among others, but I think the full version will take a turn into something else about halfway - 3/4 of the way through the song. There is suppose to be a "violectra" in their at some point which we don't hear. I think this will end up being a "Fix You" type song.
  3. I have a feeling Famous Old Painters will be on their next album. My thought is that they knew adding this song to this round would stack it with "too much greatness" and they are holding it over to have a great foundation for the next album.
  4. Its probalby just an arpeggio of that last Dm chord twice and maybe back to the Am for the last one? Ill try to tab it out when I get home tomorrow shouldn't be too hard.
  5. Huh, I just assumed it looked taller than the GT-20 but looking closer I guess your right. You must not be from the US...they don't even sell those over here.
  6. Jonny probably uses his Line6 DL4 and a crap load of reverb and of course some slight distortion, with the Lin6 DL4 you can get some pretty crazy delay effects, this one is probably the "ping-pong" preset on the DL4.
  7. Yes, this is the one you want. I almost went with this except I opted for the more expensive MO8 (around 1600 dollars). Yamaha by far makes the best keyboards and pianos. Roland does OK too, but I would suggest the very one you are looking at.
  8. Roland Cube Amp (15W OR 30W version)
  9. To add to that your strings are probably stretching as you "bash" on them. Re-tuning it will give them proper tightness and eliminate that, or you just need new strings, either are low cost solutions.
  10. haha, sorry I was only commenting on the "banging hard on strings" comment. Just seems to me like thats what I did aimlessly when I first got an electric because I really had no idea how to play it. I really don't know your ability level at this point so I assure you no offense intended, just gave me a little chuckle remembering the beginning...
  11. You can always add a volume/expression pedal to the mix seperately.... Line 6 is the way to go if you can afford it, but out of the 3 you mention our old guitarist used an older model Digitech and it worked well. Korg is great for keyboards, not so much for guitar stuff.
  12. Greetings, Yes Chris did use a Yamaha GT-20 on X&Y and all previous live shows, and yes this is a MIDI concept with a seperate sound module, however for this tour it is apparent that he is NOT using his GT-20, because the string section of the piano is open to see. It is an upright piano of some sort (probably a yamaha as well) and interestingly enough has reverse keys (which was either custom made or simply painted). In one of Roadie 42 blogs they mention a Vox Continental, however this is a portable organ. From recent accounts from shows playing on B-stage things like The hardest Part and Postcards from far away I would have to assume this was scratched for a more conventional portable stage piano such as a Fender Rhodes, which would look similar to a Vox Continental. Now those blue keyboards with the the reverse keys are actually Korg KONTROL49. It is a straight up MIDI keyboard that has been painted to look how it is. I did see a picture of a non-painted KONTROL49 on the B-stage once, so he may be using that there, but I have no seen any images of the B-stage show since they changed it, so I am unsure. Hope that helps more than confuses.
  13. In all reality you probably need to tune the thing, and some lessons, please.
  14. What program are you using, if any? You probably have to use something like REASON 4.0 to do this with any success and its pricey.
  15. Getting really sick of these comparisons. Everytime someone makes them I expect to hear a blantent rip off. What you have here is THREE notes at the end of a PHRASE that are the same for ONE measure. Obviously the people who make these comparisons do not play in bands or have ANY music theory what so ever so for those you who think is heres a little lesson for you: In music there are TWELVE notes to choose from. Depending on the key of the composition there is less than 12 to choose from THREE notes in sequence together and a similar synth progression for 10 seconds does NOT constitute as a rip off Take a look at clocks, you hear similar progressions EVERYWHERE. Why? because in a 4/4 time signature it is an easy/popular arrpegio to use. Please, just stop
  16. that Rotosphere looks pretty kick ass, kinda want one now.
  17. Theres a couple ways to play yellow with two guitars. You can create a lead part (even on an accoustic) with hammer on's instead of bends. I've never played it with a capo but that will give you more of a treble sound, so take of the capo and the chord progression goes something like this: 797800 - B 797900 - Badd11 244320 - F# 020100 - Edim something? OBviously if you keep your strumming to the top 3-4 strings it will sounds deeper/harder. For the Scientist without a capo I play it with mostly bar chords" 002210 Am 688766 A# 13321/ F 033010 C/F (or something) Same concept with this progression obviously with 3-4 bass note strumming. Don't know if that helps at all but thought I'D give it a try.
  18. Maybe at one point in recording, but I doubt it live. Live it is easier to turn that sound into a MIDI and eliminate a piece of equipment. The days of keyboardists having 4-5 different keyboards in a rig are really gone with the advent of multi-purpose hammer action full weighted 88 keyboards and keyboard MIDI controllers. I would LOVE to see someone use a Hammond Organ live though.
  19. I have a live video that I took at a Mat Kearney show of that song, just have to find it to take a listen how that sound is made live.... My initial impression is that to play that on guitar you need you need something that creates a hell of alot of sustain (like an e-bow). It is more likely that sound is MIDI or synth created.
  20. One thing to remember so as not to discourage you is that the sound of an arena carries that sound a hell of alot better than your gonna get in your room or basement. In My Place is a prime example. You seem knowledgeable though, i'm sure you'll find a combo that works to satisfaction.
  21. Wow guys, in three years of playing guitar/piano someone FINALLY explained "keys" and how to figure out what notes contained in them to me in a way I could understand. Had such a hard time with that before. There are many standard or common chord progressions A-E-D and combinations of have been done to death...but in the end mess around with it, you will become accustomed to what sounds good and what doesn't. If your not sure, ask a friend if it sounds good.
  22. For the end of Life is for Living he is likely using a shit load of reverb and I would guess also some kind of custom delay programmed into his Line6 DL4. The distortion on it sounds kinda like a tube screamer but he didn't have one of those back then to my knowledge so I would assume it was just a lower filter setting on his RAT (distortion pedal). As for Lovers In Japan it sounds alot different to me but maybe I'm thinking of a different part of the song than you are.
  23. Yamaha's produce the best sound. It is nice to have weighted keys, but its going to cost you more and if your just learning how to play go with something cheaper and then upgrade. I play with an MO-8, very expensive but the keyboard I started with was $200 yamaha and set a solid foundation. WIthout playing with that first I would be lost trying to play the MO-8.
  24. I have the DD-5 and Line 6. The DD-5 is nothing special but it is a solid delay pedal. The DD-7 looks very intriguing. The Line6 is amazing. It does a lot and is easy to learn. I would suggest not using it as a your only delay, use it with a DD-5 or DD-7 if you can afford it.
