Your instruments
Rickenbackers in general are hard to come by. I want a 620, but the only way to find those seem to be ebay. I asked my dealer and he said they get a shipment about once every two years and even then they get what they are given, no special orders, no requests.

New Live Keyboard/Synth
Yup, just took some stills from the new Viva La Vida video, its definately the Korg Kongtrol 49. I wonder how they got it with inverted keys? Painted or just custom made? Its intersetingly a really inexpensive MIDI controller, however who knows how many thousands of dollars of rack gear/computer software its controlling...

What does Chris use for distortion
Which brings up an intersting point as well. Jonny's amp (Fender Deville) is pretty visible live, but I guess I've never noticed Chris's amp or heard what kind he uses?
-
Mike Hill...
yeah that could be interesting for sure. I was at a site once where they had elaborate diagrams of various guitarists rigs, but unfortunately Jonny's was not one of them. I've heard of other guitarists that have used him before but I can't think of any off the top of my head. You seem pretty knowledgeable, ever think about creating a "technical guitar" site or something like that?
-
Mike Hill...
likely not... He is so well renowned in his "field" that i'm sure his clients are strictly referrals.

Guitar Question
As has been said before, its usually a matter of the tuning. Instead of re-tunning one guitar multiple times he just has multiple guitars with different tunings. Other artists will use a different guitar based on the guitar properties as compared to how the song is played, and even some use different guitars simply for the "feel" or "aesthetic" value towards the song itself. You can do that if you make lots of money....lol

Question about Jon's thinlines...
I noticed this too, are you talking about the thinline with a natural finish...instead of the white/pearly looking inlay its like a black finish? I know he uses his Les Paul, his Jaguar, and 3 different thinlines for sure. You didn't mistake the Jaguar for a thinline did you?

Good pics of Jonny's new Rig!
I have a 72 thinline, natural finish with factory standard humbuckers. Its not custom or anything like im sure his is, but it plays very nicely. Great attack and the neck is slippery slick. I also have a Boss DD-5 (similar to his DD-3), a Phase 90, Line6 DL4 (awesome pedal!), MXR Micro Amp (which it doesnt look like he is using this tour), and the ProCo Rat distort. I also have a Boss Tremolo which he used to use in the early days but doesn't look like he does now. I don't have a DeVille Amp although I want one or a Vox amp. Some day I hope to save up for a Rickenbacker 620 as well (same as Chris Urbanowicz from the editors uses, similar in feel to the thinline). Pricey though...

Johnny's Reverb and Delay sound
Someone noted earlier that Jonny is now using a Space Echo as well. Jonny also uses a Micro amp which can add increased gain. >gain>volume>sustain time. The DL 4 can do wonders ( I love mine) but if he is using it, it's almost impossible to recreate unless its one of the factory settings. I think hes using his loop function on it quite a bit now from what I can tell. I've also noticed that The Rat Distortion pedal creates an amazing amount of sustain by itself. He is using a new distortion pedal but still has the Rat as far as I know. Just play around with things you can never reproduce a sound exact but you can find something that will be satisfactory without too much problem. Also work on you technique (attack, tremolo picking, sweep picking, etc.) These will all help.

what is the hardest jonny buckland guitar riff to play?
Of course Jonny's riffs are not overly complicated. That isn't coldplay's style. They focus on a more melodic sound then shredding a 5 minute solo. Personally that makes me yawn after a while. All of Coldplay's music is captivating and well put together and intriguing. You ever wonder why Coldplay songs have alot of wierd tunning and odd chords? Chris once said their BEST music was made by striking a chord that didn't follow the norm. Also Jonny employs several different styles. He uses his slides. He uses an ebow. He has great use of effects. Another guitarist that doesn't play overly tricky parts is Chris Urbanowicz of Editors, but ya know what they are probably my two favorite guitarists because they make music that sounds melodic and catchy. No Jonny isn't the worlds most technically skilled guitarist, but the band has managed to make the most popular sound in the world despite it.

How old are coldplay listeners?
A while back I noticed some comments about how "young" coldplay listeners are. Lets take a poll here and find out. Feel free to post your age as well as how long you have listened to the band. Should be interesting. I'll start. Im 26.

Support bands during the u.k. tour
Wow alot more Editors fans here than I realized... Editors opening for coldplay would be my dream show. Only thing that would be better would be Arcade Fire in there as well.

New Live Keyboard/Synth
I agree on that, however it might be due to the fact that the keys on theirs are inverted which makes it look different. All in all this is the closest ive come in like a month of searching so I'm gonna call it good until someone comes up with an official equipment list. By the way Debs said she will try, but it was hard to get last tour and she thinks it may be near impossible to get a list this time because there is so much this time around.

New Live Keyboard/Synth
FOUND IT! I think anyways. If i'm correct its a MIDI controller which is basically a keyboard that you can tweek/download certain sounds. It is either Korg KONTROL 49 http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Korg-KONTROL49-49Key-MIDIUSB-Controller?sku=702417 or Akai MPK 49 http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Akai-MPK49-Keyboard-USB-MIDI-Controller?sku=703034 I'm fairly certain its the Korg though, same slider and same configuration in the back when you look closely when its played live. Of course its painted and probably custom ordered with inverted keys.

tonebender colorsound question.
It might be hard to figure out but I think he might have used it on older stuff like Spies and Shiver, Daylight also comes to mind too but thats just a total guess... Its a very rare pedal something like only 500 were ever made.

Johnny's New Pedals????
From the today show it looks like he has two volume pedals now and only using one DL4?
-
Viva la Vida basseffects
Some of the NBC videos for the today show swing by a really good view of both Jonnys and Guys setups. Guy deffinately uses individual pedals now.
